1. How do you like to be recognized for your accomplishments?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
We all like recognition in some way for our accomplishments in the workplace. Your Bombardier interviewer wants to make sure they can offer recognition in a way that will help to keep you motivated and satisfied.
Written by Karrie Day on October 15th, 2023
How to Answer
Share with the interviewer how you would want credit for your hard work. In addition to promotions, raises, and bonuses, consider less tangible recognition such as awards, kind words, or the opportunity to work on special projects that align with your long-term career goals.
Written by Karrie Day on October 15th, 2023
1st Answer Example
"I am very much an over-achiever and find that the best way for me to be recognized for a job well done is through words of kindness and recognition. I am easily encouraged, and the best reward for me is to know that my hard work makes a difference."
2nd Answer Example
"I feel that most achievements are due to the great work of a team. If I gain recognition for my accomplishments, I always prefer that my team be a part of that recognition as well. Words of encouragement are also motivating for me."
Written by Karrie Day on October 15th, 2023
3rd Answer Example
"While I enjoy recognition and words of appreciation, I am more motivated by being given opportunities to grow professionally. I love to work with new technologies, learn new skills, and work on anything innovative and exciting. I know that not all projects have these characteristics, so if there is an opportunity to show recognition in alignment with my goals, I genuinely appreciate it."

2. Tell me about an achievement you are proud of. What did you find challenging about it?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Employees at Bombardier solve some of the world's most technically complex challenges. They seek difference-makers with a proven track record of hard work that leads to achievement. Your interviewer wants to hear about a time when the work you put in led to an achievement.
Written by Samantha Brown on November 28th, 2023
How to Answer
You have a couple of options for how to approach this: Discuss an example of when you overcame obstacles to achieve something great, or share a significant accomplishment or award you received and talk about what was challenging about it.
Either way, you are showing your determination and focus on reaching your goal. Think of a situation that highlights your strengths and qualities that will be helpful for the job for which you are interviewing. Try to keep your response as career-relevant as possible.
Written by Karrie Day on October 15th, 2023
1st Answer Example
"One achievement that I am proud of is graduating college as an honors student while still working full time. This accomplishment showed me that I could dedicate myself to my career, and reach the goals that I set for myself. It felt great to accomplish so much and earn recognition for my dedication."
Written by Samantha Brown on November 28th, 2023
2nd Answer Example
"The operations team I currently manage was short-staffed last year due to a round of layoffs that affected our group. Our production targets did not change despite the loss of several key team members. I pulled everyone together and dedicated an afternoon to brainstorming creative ways to be more efficient. We restructured responsibilities and adjusted the order of operations for some of our tasks.
Not only did we meet our goals, but we exceeded them. The challenging part was finding creative ways to keep my team motivated while they were adjusting to all of the changes. I learned a lot about leadership and I am proud of that achievement. I know I will be able to show the same level of leadership in the face of adversity if hired here at Bombardier."

3. What type of pace do you prefer at work?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
One of the topics reported frequently by Bombardier interviewees is the pace of work they will be expected to keep if hired. Interviewers dive into this topic to ensure the candidate they ultimately select is ready to handle the flow of assignments and tasks necessary for success in the role.
Written by Karrie Day on October 10th, 2023
How to Answer
Describe your preferred working environment as it relates to the pace of your assignments. Keep in mind that many roles at Bombardier require employees who thrive in a fast-paced environment due to variables such as aggressive production schedules or the high rate of change in aerospace and defense technology. To successfully answer this question, you need to convince your interviewer that you are comfortable working at an accelerated pace at times even if it isn't your preference.
Written by Karrie Day on October 10th, 2023
Answer Example
"I prefer a pace that varies at work. I enjoy fast-paced projects because they can be challenging and I feel like they help me grow professionally. I also like to take advantage of slower times because they allow time for things like research, shadowing, training, and other activities that help me stay at my best. Can you tell me more about the pace of work for the XYZ team here at Bombardier?"

4. Do you feel comfortable working independently?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
While many of Bombardier's open roles require working primarily in teams, they also value candidates who can work independently and with minimal supervision at times. Candidates who have interviewed for internships, and other team contributor roles frequently report being asked this question during their Bombardier interviews.
Written by Karrie Day on October 10th, 2023
How to Answer
While it is important to answer authentically, it is also important to understand that a successful answer to this question involves convincing your interviewer that you are comfortable working independently. Let them know that you are prepared to work alone as needed and you know how and when to seek further guidance.
Written by Karrie Day on October 10th, 2023
Answer Example
"Yes, I am comfortable working independently. I enjoy teams, but it is nice to work alone at times. When tasked with independent work, I make sure that I understand the requirements of the task as well as the delivery timeline. I then work on it to the best of my ability and take measures such as consulting manuals or doing independent research to resolve any obstacles. It happens rarely, but I will reach out to a coworker or superior in the event I run into a challenge I'm unable to navigate on my own."

5. How often do you think of innovations that will improve your work performance?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Bombardier has demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation since it was founded in 1942. They not only focus on the invention, development, and delivery of innovative customer products, but they are also highly committed to innovation in the way that their employees work. Specifically, they are looking for 'brilliant minds and agile hands'.
Having the ability to see inefficiencies or problems as opportunities is a skill that can make you an essential asset to a company. Your interviewer wants to know if you share Bombardier's commitment to efficiency, excellence, and innovation in whatever role you are interviewing for.
Written by Karrie Day on October 8th, 2023
How to Answer
Think of a time you had a chance to make a difference by making a change in a process or procedure. This may include changes to the steps you took, the equipment or technology you used, the coworkers you engaged, etcetera.
Next, let your interviewer know the frequency with which you identify and implement improvement opportunities. Back up your response with a quick walkthrough of an example from a recent professional role. Be sure to include a description of the value you created.
Written by Karrie Day on November 28th, 2023
1st Answer Example
"I would say that at least once a month I have an idea, big or small, that I present to my manager. My most recent innovation was a change to the way I partner with the designers at my current company. As a quality assurance engineer, I was not typically involved in the initial design process for our products. Over time, I found myself noticing quality issues that could have been avoided if I had been allowed to review designs before they were produced.
I asked the engineering manager if it would be possible for me to sit in on design meetings when my schedule allowed for it. He was hesitant at first but allowed me to attend. I mostly observed, but I offered my perspective when I noticed an opportunity to avoid costly rework. My innovative idea has proven to be quite valuable and senior QA engineers are regularly collaborating with designers now as a result."
Written by Karrie Day on November 28th, 2023
2nd Answer Example
"I am always thinking of new ways to increase productivity and improve the methods I use to complete my work. I also look for ways that my teams can improve. As a project manager, this is a critical piece of my role.
For example, when I joined my current company I observed the way the engineers on my current team break up and order their tasks at the beginning of each week. I noticed that they each developed their own schedules and then coordinated during the week as necessary. I observed a number of delays that could be reduced if they met and worked to create a collective development schedule. This would ensure that collaboration needs were known and planned for.
It took them a while to get used to the new method, but the change I suggested resulted in an 18% increase in our rate of production each month. It also reduced rework and waste. I look forward to using my observational and process improvement skills here at Bombardier if hired."

6. How do you manage your time?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Regardless of the role you're interviewing for at Bombardier, you can expect several behavioral questions to be asked. Time management is a common topic as many of the members of the Bombardier team work on more than one project or assignment at a time. Your interviewer wants to know if you have the organizational skills necessary for success.
Written by Karrie Day on October 17th, 2023
How to Answer

It is important to provide a response that aligns with the maturity level required for the open position at Bombardier. For example, a team manager might discuss their method for checking in with their team, reaching out to important clients, and performing their individual work on a daily basis.
Written by Karrie Day on October 17th, 2023
1st Answer Example
"I will determine which project requires my attention by the upcoming deliverables and their due dates. I then develop a plan to ensure they all receive the time and attention they deserve over the course of the coming weeks. I am comfortable delegating tasks when needed, but I am also aware that these times will require an additional commitment of hours from me. Never have I under-delivered on a deadline."
Written by Karrie Day on October 17th, 2023
2nd Answer Example
"Time management has been something that I have worked on improving since my time in college. I set goals for myself and attached a time deadline for those goals. Also, I am diligent with the use of my calendar and have a great scheduling app on my phone that I refer to as well."
Written by Samantha Brown on November 28th, 2023
3rd Answer Example
"As a team lead, my time is typically split between meetings with my team and my individual tasks. I like to plan ahead by looking at our production roadmaps on a monthly and weekly basis. From there, I ensure that I allow ample time for team meetings, one-on-ones with the individuals I lead, and time for my own work. There are times when unexpected work comes up and I apply a strategic approach to determine which items get my attention first. Regardless of my decision, I am known for delivering my work on time and leading my teams in the same manner."

Written by Karrie Day on October 8th, 2023
1st Answer Example
"I welcome the unfamiliar at work because it means that I have an opportunity to learn and grow as a professional. When I first receive something like this, I often start by asking clarifying questions about the material or project to better gauge my level of understanding. After that, I might simply research on my own depending on the circumstances and my level of non-understanding. However, if it is particularly complex, or if my understanding is minimal, then I would seek guidance from a supervisor or colleague. I have so much to learn from others at work, and I always appreciate the opportunity to develop in that way as a professional when I'm able. I would look forward to bringing this same attitude to work at Bombardier."
Written by Karrie Day on October 8th, 2023
2nd Answer Example
"The first thing I would do if presented with new material I didn't understand would be to research the material on my own. I would spend enough time to make sure I understood the basic concepts involved. From there, I would ask my supervisor for clarification and guidance on how I could continue my education on the subject. This might include shadowing, practicing a new skill, or working with a new system.
I really enjoy learning new things and exploring new opportunities. Bombarider has a strong track record of innovation and allowing employees to learn on the job. These are some of the main reasons I am excited about the possibility of joining your organization."

Project Manager Example
"As a project manager, I typically lean on the relationships I form to assist me when I am presented with something that is new or unclear. I work with cross-functional teams of subject matter experts and senior stakeholders. They represent a vast pool of knowledge and expertise to lean on. My approach usually involves asking around to see if anyone has tackled something similar and then breaking the assignment down into actionable tasks from there.
I would apply a similar process at Bombardier. I would ask my team to see if they could help me to clarify the situation, and then I would seek guidance from any available subject matter experts as needed until I could develop a reasonable plan."
Written by Karrie Day on October 8th, 2023
Software Engineer Example
"My assignments as an engineer frequently have elements that are unknown. For example, the requirements for a solution may be clear, but the design may be unknown. Likewise, I may know how the system will function, but I may not know how a downstream integration point will be affected if I make a change.
My go-to approach in situations that are unclear or new is to ask around and experiment. I discuss complex scenarios with technical leads, other engineers at my company, or with development communities online. Chances are that someone has faced something similar. I also build prototypes to test assumptions and experiment before proceeding with full-blown implementations if the end result is unclear. I feel confident I would be able to handle new or unclear situations here at Bombardier using a similar approach."

Walk your interviewer through your typical approach to dealing with conflict in a team setting. If possible, offer a specific example from your past that highlights your skills in this area. Be sure to keep your answer professional and avoid language that speaks negatively about your current or former colleagues.
Written by Karrie Day on October 10th, 2023
Answer Example
"I use a humble and open-minded approach to adversity in a team setting. It is important to me that teams collaborate well and use the best ideas to find a way forward during times of difficulty. For example, one of my teams faced a technological challenge last month. One of our web service-based jobs was not running as expected, and our technical lead was frustrated. As a team, we were new to working with the particular technology we selected for that solution and a few of the engineers were upset that our tech lead couldn't provide more guidance and solve the problems right away.
I encouraged everyone to take a step back from the issue for an afternoon and regroup the next day. In the meantime, I reminded everyone that one of our team goals for working with the new technology was to learn, find any shortcomings, and determine if we wanted to incorporate it into other solutions going forward. It was important to me that we remember issues like these were to be expected and that no one person was to blame.
The team rallied the next day and we quickly found a way forward after taking the time to research and test further. The program manager thanked me for showing leadership and helping the team focus on the bigger picture."
