I asked the engineering manager if it would be possible for me to sit in on design meetings when my schedule allowed for it. He was hesitant at first but allowed me to attend. I also follow news stories related to major aerospace and defense companies such as Boeing, Lockheed, Gulfstream, RTX, and Honeywell. There are a ton of developments each year and I enjoy learning about the latest."

"I think that it is possible to be a great team member, even when disagreeing with the leader. It's all in how you maintain respect for each other despite the difference in opinion. I know that doing what is right and showing respect for each other are core values at Bombardier and I share the same values."

However, if it is particularly complex, or if my understanding is minimal, then I would seek guidance from a supervisor or colleague. "If I were looking to purchase a Bombardier jet for business use there would be many important factors to consider such as access to maintenance, the level of comfort within the cabin, and the speed of the aircraft. I would want to feel comfortable that I would have access to maintenance and support no matter where I was traveling. This would help to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the jet at all times. I would want to make sure that the jet was comfortable and had the features that the executives of my company would expect. Finally, I would want to feel confident that the aircraft I select would meet my requirements for speed and distance as arriving at the destination on time is likely to be of great importance."

Bombardier prides itself on delivering an excellent and holistic customer experience for their customers. This is especially true for the customers of their business jets. Your interviewer wants to know if you have done your research to understand their products and the customers they serve.

Many of our industry competitors have their employees under a non-compete contract. Are you bound by any non-compete contract with your current employer?

"I am under a non-compete contract with Company ABC. However, it specifically states that I cannot share any trade secrets or recruit any of their current employees. There is nothing in the contract hindering me from joining Bombardier, Inc.."

The interviewer would like to avoid any hurdles during the offer and negotiations stage that would prevent you from being successfully on-boarded. If Bombardier is a direct competitor to your current or most recent employer such as Gulfstream or Boeing, then you should carefully review your employment contract to ensure nothing is hindering you. It is important to demonstrate integrity and transparency when answering this question. You may be asked at some point to provide proof of your answer. I encouraged everyone to take a step back from the issue for an afternoon and regroup the next day. In the meantime, I reminded everyone that one of our team goals for working with the new technology was to learn, find any shortcomings, and determine if we wanted to incorporate it into other solutions going forward. It was important to me that we remember issues like these were to be expected and that no one person was to blame. The team rallied the next day and we quickly found a way forward after taking the time to research and test further. The program manager thanked me for showing leadership and helping the team focus on the bigger picture."
