While it is certainly not required for most oncology nursing roles, institutions often encourage nursing staff to pursue board certification to show their expertise in their specialty. Oncology nurses become eligible for the OCN exam after 1,000 hours of oncology experience and one year of being a registered nurse. On top of this certification, nurses who administer chemotherapy can pursue further certification with an ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate. If you are willing to take the time and effort to become board-certified when qualified, enthusiastically let your interviewer know this. If you're currently holding any other certifications or credentials, don't hesitate to talk about the work you put into obtaining those.
