As cancer treatments continue to be researched and developed and new treatments head to clinical trials, frontline staff like oncology nurses will be expected to study and learn the new trials and discuss them with patients. Your interviewer will be genuinely curious about any direct experience you have in working in clinical research and trials throughout your career and will want to hear what role you played within that research. Talk openly about any experience you have and your excitement for continuing this in the future as an oncology nurse. If you don't have direct experience as of yet, that is okay as a lot of nurses don't get exposed to research. Just be sure to know what role clinical nurses play in the research realm and show your passion for it moving forward.

"Yes, I would bring experience to this oncology nursing role. During my years as a nurse in CV medicine, I've been involved in clinical trials of some great new things to help provide better outcomes for patients. Some of these have included an AI monitoring platform that measured the physical activity and heart rates of patients discharged from the hospital and many different clinical trials on new drugs. Prior to any trial starting, it was my job to learn about the features and benefits of the new drug or machine and what the end goal of the trial was. From there, I used the knowledge to help educate patients and get them excited for the new treatment."
