Question 23 of 25

How do you ensure that campaigns are within budget? What is the most challenging part of maintaining a budget?

"At ABC company, we maintain a budget spreadsheet per campaign. During campaign ideation, I work with the team to take the tasks apart and identify the costs associated with each one. For example, if we're planning to run a lead generation campaign, we evaluate how much we should spend on each social media channel. Outside of that, we also need to identify how many collaterals need to be developed and designed and the amount of time our creators would need to put into that work. We use a productivity tool to track our creators' time and understand how long it takes to complete every task associated with the campaign. The most challenging part of maintaining a budget is actually planning. Unless we've run an almost-identical campaign in the past, there's always a risk of underestimating costs."

      How to Answer

Marketing campaigns are treated like projects because they are bound by time and cost. The interviewer wants to learn that you have a method for tracking budgets. Describe any related process your organization has in place, if any. If none, then talk about your own process. Further, mention an aspect of budget maintenance that you find the most difficult.
