Question 2 of 40

What are your thoughts on complimentary and alternative medicine? Which aspects do you agree and disagree with?

"Although I am a supporter of traditional medicine, I do understand that alternative medicine can offer great benefits for some. I agree that there is a science behind alternative medicine; however, alternative medicine should be more strictly regulated. People need to educate themselves better before jumping into 'all-natural' therapy. Prescribed teas and herbs can be dangerous if taken in the wrong dosages. Even though it is natural, it doesn't mean that your body will like it. Just like with all types of medicine and practices, research and education are very important."

      What You Need to Know

This question explores your views and knowledge of CAM (complimentary and alternative medicine) and integrated medicine (combining CAM and conventional medicine in a treatment approach). Whatever your opinion, make sure you back it up with facts. Many people use terms like natural, holistic, home remedy, or Eastern Medicine when referring to CAM, but these are typically classified into five categories; mind-body therapy, biology-based, manipulative, Energy healing, and whole medical systems. Whereas some of these approaches are deemed safe after careful evaluation and yield positive results, others lack data.

As Einstein said, 'The more I learn, the more I realize what little I understand'. So share your perspectives, acknowledging the limits of your knowledge, and that you are excited about continuing to learn more, and are excited about the potentials of these other fields and how they continue to impact conventional and integrated medicine. Just like you would answer a sensitive question surrounding politics or religion, it's best to support both sides in some aspect when delivering your response.

You do a great job of balancing a personal interest in alternative medicine with the understanding that there should be strict regulations. This response is well-balanced and thoughtful.
