This is the only appropriate time to discuss pay in the early interview process. Yet refrain from blurting out an expectation or a flat number. Better to present your worth by first presenting your current earnings. But don't just detail your wage or salary. Also provide any and all the following; bonuses, incentives, commissions, tips, medical, dental, vision, 401K, transportation perks, stock shares, etc. Contrast your current earnings with where you feel you are on your career path, the job market, cost of living, what your current employer has offered you to stay on with them, and any other factors that could influence your number. This should give them a reasonable expectation of your value and worth.

Rachelle's Feedback
A specific hourly wage is okay if you know this is the offer with no room for negotiation. Otherwise, to avoid undercutting yourself, I recommend offering a range. If there are other perks such as vacation time or benefits that are important to you, be sure to mention these. I have provided an example below.
"I would like to earn between 14-16 per hour. In addition to my hourly wage, I also find health benefits to be significant."
