"I rarely had this scenario happen at my last job at the hardware store. But recently our shipment arrived late, and we couldn't park the pallets in the store during store hours, so we had to drop them out back, but had to constantly monitor them to avoid theft. Yet, too often I had to leave my manager waiting out back in the cold. All I could do was give my full attention to the customer at hand, and the customers waiting will wait until their turn. It's important to give your full attention to the customer you are currently taking care of. I know if I was a customer purchasing paints, I would want the respect and full attention of the professional at hand to best guide me on the products that I was purchasing. I reached out to my manager when I could, and they of course were happy I was prioritizing the customer. But they weren't happy shivering out in the cold. You try to make everyone happy, and sometimes the only way to do that is by doing your best."

With this question, HireVue's interview builder would score someone as a novice if they were unable to "adjust their behavior as required to meet the demands of the situation, and require a supervisor or manager to make the necessary changes." Whereas someone they consider an expert "possesses a positive attitude, shares their vision, inspires others, is a role model, and quickly modifies their plans accordingly."
