Retail environments like Bunnings Warehouse may offer opportunities for friendly competition with coworkers and other stores in your district and region. Tell the interviewer about your experience in competitive environments, whether competing against yourself by beating your previous best or working in a collaborative environment among competing teams. Emphasize how you strove to rise to the challenge, enthusiastically pushing yourself to be the best.

"My current sales position is highly commission-based, so my colleagues and I are quite competitive. Even when we're competing, we have a great work environment where we help each other when someone is struggling to meet their quota. We coach each other on sales techniques and share success stories. The result has been a positive work environment with healthy competition."

"Last year, I worked at a high-end jewelry store where sales goals were intense, and the rewards were high. I enjoy healthy competition, so sales contests greatly motivated me. I ended up winning 7 of the 12 contests! I won an iPad, cash incentives, and concert tickets. It was great."

The most competitive work situation I have experienced would be trying to be as quick and efficient during a cooking shift at a fast-food kitchen. I was ready to give myself a challenge and see how fast I am initially, then eventfully push myself to get quicker and better at my job. I still do this at my current work as there is always room for improvement, and I look to see how fast I can complete my tasks whilst still doing a great job without mistakes.

Rachelle's Feedback
Good for you! I can feel the challenge in your example, and it's clear that you try very hard to deliver your work quickly while remaining mindful of the quality you deliver. I suggest turning this reply into a 'success story' by including details of your initial turn-around time compared to your timing now. How has your fulfillment time improved? Giving the interviewer a measurable example of your improvement will make the answer even more compelling.
