Physicians are known to have a high amount of stress and burnout due to the nature of the work. You need to be aware that the time demands and pressure of residency can lead to fatigue and little sleep. Your interviews want to hear about your plan to handle the high amounts of stress during your time with them during your Family Medicine Residency.

"When I am under pressure, I focus on the task at hand and make sure I don't get distracted. Keeping to a deadline is helpful, and I will delegate when necessary to alleviate some stress. I know that I will be facing the most grueling three years of my life as a Family Medicine Resident. I plan to utilize my free time wisely by doing what is necessary to recharge my mind and rest my body. Some ways I like to do this are playing golf, hiking with my dog, and reading."

I will manage the high amount of stress by time management and being organized. Writing a list on a daily basis of the work that needs to be done and keeping in mind time to rest and time to spend with my family will help me to overcome the stress.

Nice! It's good that you plan to manage your time well and remain organized. Beyond making lists, what else will you do to ensure this? Will you use calendars, planners, reminders, programs, or other time management tools and methods? Will you create boundaries and ask for help when needed so you don't get overwhelmed? Will you share your feelings with peers who can understand? Will you exercise, sleep enough, and eat well? Will you practice meditation to calm yourself? Be thorough as you explain all the ways you'll combat stress so the interviewer feels assured that you can handle this. Great job!
