Yes, I have lived and worked overseas and in the US at a variety of HE types with a vast array of diverse people and projects. I am very field independent. I can work and be successful in building upon relationships to meet goals. The strengths come into play here: strategic, activator, individualization, arranger, and learner. I am always looking for a way forward with the implementation that is sustainable.

Rachelle's Feedback
Fantastic answer! Your overseas experience is very valuable so I'm glad you brought that into your response.

Yes, I feel prepared. Through my previous work experience with students and colleagues has exposed me to a variety of people. Avoiding stereotypes and learning the stories that build each individual should be utilized in all engagements. Discovering each person's history and motivation factors is a persistent characteristic of mine that would be beneficial as an Academic Dean.

Rachelle's Feedback
You not only mention these persistent characteristics, but you also display these clearly and consistently throughout your answers. Great work! Your answer exudes a ton of confidence while still coming across as humble.

I have been in education for the majority of my career, and have had the opportunity to refine what inclusion means to me. It's a practice. Inclusion must be practiced, refined, assessed, and repeated. If you think about discrimination (racism, sexism, ageism, abelist), it's an attitude that you have to investigate to change. Looking at historical models of critique, for example, has helped me understand the power dynamic in an art classroom and challenge that with my students. As a leader, I believe in an inclusive environment and express that freely. If leadership believes, everyone will. It's how resources are allocated, it's how courses are written, it's how each person can work to his or her strengths in any environment.

Cindy's Feedback
Wow, amazing revision! This comes through as thoughtful and sincere. Nice work.

I am well prepared to work in an environment that offers a variety of people and situations. My 14 years of combined Deanship provides me with the intellect to be successful and ready on day one. Through the many roles that I have earned within the academic world of teaching, learn and administrating I bring to the table a vast amount of experiences that I believe will make me a strong and successful Dean at this institution for many years to come.

Stephanie's Feedback
You do a great job of highlighting the fact that you have extensive experience in Deanship; however, to strengthen your response, I'd suggest mentioning the specific skillsets or qualities that would help you prepare for a wide variety of people, situations, and environments (example: the ability to multitask, strong interpersonal skills, etc.)
Anonymous Answer
Yes. I am used to dealing with a wide variety of students, both happy and those angry and upset. I've dealt with faculty who also have been upset with a situation, and either tried to help make a change or help them understand the situation. And I've worked with many types of personalities on the faculty and staff. I always try to see the "good" or the strengths of everyone, and show my appreciation for that and value that.

Chad's Feedback
Excellent answer! Your experience working with students, faculty, and staff in a variety of situations will assure the interviewer you are prepared for the challenges associated with the Academic Dean position.

Excellent! Can you give more details about your previous roles and where you worked? What kind of diversity were you exposed to, and why did you find it valuable? Adding an example of how you've successfully worked in a diverse environment will further strengthen your answer. Great job!
