A good educator is passionate about teaching and dedicated to helping students succeed. They are knowledgeable in their subject matter and understand how to effectively communicate information to others. They are patient, understanding, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure their students learn and grow. A great educator cares deeply about their students and is committed to helping them achieve their full potential. They inspire, motivate, and challenge their students to be the best they can be, both inside and outside the classroom. Overall, a good educator is someone who is not only knowledgeable and skilled in their craft but also compassionate, patient, and dedicated to the success of their students.
If you could sum up your teaching style in just three words, what would they be? Display to the interviewer that you are a good fit by choosing unique and descriptive words. If there are keywords that are used quite often in the job posting, job description, or the school's values, you can draw on those as well.

"If I had to describe myself as an educator, I would say I am inspiring, well-researched, and motivating. My students have often commented on the fresh approach that I bring to the classroom. I saw on your school website that you seek to hire those who inspire and consider themselves visionaries. That is certainly me!"

"Through the years, I have often been referred to as engaging, warm, and helpful. As an educator, I wanted to ensure my students were always comfortable approaching me to ask for help or additional resources whenever needed. Also, I enjoy using various teaching techniques and tools to keep things interesting and interactive, such as group discussions, hands-on activities, and multimedia presentations. Additionally, being available and approachable for questions and concerns help my students feel supported and valued in the classroom."

Stephanie's Feedback
Excellent! These traits make a great educator. I would suggest having prepared a bit more detail (or a specific example) for each trait, in case you're asked to expound upon them a little.

Over the years, I've been described as challenging, hard-working and approachable. I strive for an open environment in the classroom where students can challenge themselves, each other, and me. For example, I designed a course called Critique and the Creative Practice for first-year MFA students where we dissected the value and harm of traditional arts training (critique models) to create the kind of classroom we wanted to have. Approachability is key to my teaching. Recently a student shared that he wrote the following to my superiors: "I have met faculty with lesser titles who are elitist and give off the impression that they are too busy to be bothered by another's existence. She is not that. She is the furthest from that that you could be. She is friendly. She is positive. She is inclusive. She is welcoming."

Cindy's Feedback
Nice. Can you expand with an example? It's always good to see abstract principles in action so the interviewer can visualize how you'd operate in their setting.

As an educator, I first think of describing myself as an out-of-the-box thinker. Next, innovating and then inspiring.

Stephanie's Feedback
These are all wonderful qualities! Because "out-of-the-box thinker" and "innovating" have a similar meaning, I suggest replacing one of these descriptors with a third adjective that describes you as an educator. Also, to make your response more impactful, I suggest providing a brief specific example for each of the words you share. How does innovation show up in your work? How do you inspire students and colleagues?
