Preparing questions for the interviewer is always a great idea, as it shows you are genuinely interested in the position and the company. It also allows you to learn more about the job, the company culture, and the expectations of the position. Asking questions can also help you stand out from other candidates and demonstrate your critical thinking and leadership skills. Additionally, it can help you better understand if the job is a good fit for you and your career goals. Having at least two to three questions ready for the interviewer is a simple but effective way to make a positive impression and increase your chances of landing the job.
Review the school's website and other online resources to ensure your questions are not mundane or redundant. The last thing an interviewer wants to hear is a list of questions you could have found the answers to by merely watching a video on their website!

Yes, I do have a question. What are the top characteristics you are looking for in the position? What do you see as challenges for the position?

Rachelle's Feedback
These are strong questions! If you wish, you can dig even further. I have provided an example below.
"What are the top characteristics you are looking for in this position, and do you feel that I have portrayed these characteristics in this meeting today?" (This gathers agreement and helps solidify your candidacy)
"What are the greatest challenges I will face in this position? I ask because I would like to actively work on a plan to overcome these challenges" (or something along those lines).

Yes, thank you for asking. What are the characteristics and challenges of this position? And when will you make a decision in filling this position?

Stephanie's Feedback
I suggest bringing a curated list of thoughtful questions with you to the interview, including questions that show you've done your research on the specific position and/or the institution. While it is acceptable to ask about the next steps, I suggest leaving that for last, if at all. Usually, an interviewer will share this information without you needing to ask. Whenever possible, I suggest focusing your questions on the role or the institution itself.

I'm well-versed in the university's strategic plan as outlined in CSU 2.0. And I also know the obligations of CSU as it impacts engineering, related to the JO project. But is there anything that I need to know about the president's priorities for the engineering college or the university which I should be aware of?

Chad's Feedback
These are strong questions and you do well to again demonstrate the high level of existing knowledge you have of the university. Good job! I have suggested a slight rewording below.

These are strong questions, and you do well to include a variety of questions regarding the position and the school. Good job! Consider prioritizing your questions, in case you are limited in the number of questions you are able to ask due to time constraints. This will ensure you have the opportunity to seek the answers you deem most important.
