T.J. Maxx Interview Questions

30 T.J. Maxx Interview Questions
Question 1 of 30
At TJ Maxx we like to hire strong achievers. Give me an example of a time when you went above and beyond.
How to Answer
At TJ Maxx, it's very important to us to attract ambitious and talented individuals, offer them challenging assignments, and support their career growth. Our aim is to transform some of the most talented individuals we hire today into our global leaders of tomorrow. When have you gone above and beyond for your coworkers, supervisors, or customers?

Answer Example
"Last week I noticed that my manager had not completed the schedule for the following week. Some of the staff were complaining that they didn't have their work schedule yet. Rather than going to my manager with the complaint, I offered to take on some of her workload so that she would have the time to complete the schedule. We worked together for a couple of overtime hours that day and were able to catch her up on everything. It felt good to help but also benefited me by way of organization."
Answer Example
"Just yesterday I had a customer make a purchase, and I noticed that she was struggling with her bags. She had a stroller, a couple of kids, and a lot of bags to carry. I offered to help her out to her car, and she gratefully accepted. It felt excellent to go above the call of duty that day."

Question 2 of 30
How do you handle situations that could cause you to be late or miss work?
Professional Answers Preview
How to Answer
Life at TJ Maxx is fast-paced and ever-changing -- and this kind of environment can make some employees feel flustered or stressed out. The interviewer wants to get a feel for how you respond to the unexpected, so talk to them about how you would handle a situation that threatened to make you late for work.

Answer Example
"I'm very even-tempered, so I don't panic when something unexpected comes up on my way to work. If I think I'm going to be delayed, I'll immediately call my manager and let her know so that she can be prepared to cover my area of the store until I can make it to work -- but these are really rare situations."
Answer Example
"I always give myself an extra time-buffer when I leave for work in case something comes up -- that way, I'm not stressed out if something happens. The extra time I build into getting to work will give me time to contact my manager if I get delayed -- and if nothing else, it never hurts to arrive early for work!"

Question 3 of 30
Do you have reliable transportation?
Professional Answers Preview
How to Answer
Even if you're not expected to drive for the job, you will need to have some form of reliable transportation. If you take the bus or ride a bike, that works too! Merely share that you have the means to get to work consistently and on time.

Answer Example
"I have reliable transportation. I have a well-maintained vehicle, and I am comfortable with the amount of travel required to get to your office every day."
Answer Example
"I take public transit; however, I find it to be very reliable. I was late to work only once last year, and that was due to a snowstorm which stalled all of our employee's commute - including those with personal vehicles. Rest assured, I am reliable and will always come to work on time."

"I am looking to lay the foundation for the rest of my career with this position. I looked at a lot of job postings and had interviewed some very carefully selected places, but you are by far my front-runner. I want to learn not only the fundamentals of sales but also become comfortable with both sides of the business.
