On BP's website, they offer tips and tricks, and in-depth explanations of the interview process. They explain it's all about gaining the information they need to make sure they screened you against the requirements of the role, and their assessments give them the opportunity to see your capabilities and potential. "On-demand video interviewing is a tool that integrates pre-recorded question prompts and gives candidates a timeframe to record their own video response to the questions, to evaluate competencies and experiences."

Your interviewer is curious about what the example you offer will say about your experience level and how suited you are to the role. They will use your example as a predictor of future performance, and as a guideline for what going-above-and-beyond looks like to you. As they say on BP's website, "This is not only about working but also about working with purpose! Because we respect individuality within a culture of collaboration, our next big idea could come from you. It's the energy and ideas of our people that make a difference. The secret to our success is hiring people like you."

Your nonverbal cues are just as important as your verbal cues. The assessment model will monitor your facial expressions, eye movements, head movements, hand movements, tone of voice, and body language for signs of confidence and professionalism. So be mindful of your posture, appearance, and surroundings. Avoid slouching, folding your arms, or protecting your neck. Remain objective and confident. Keep your face and posture relaxed and your body language open and at ease. Avoid fidgeting, swaying, shifting your weight, rocking or tilting back in your chair, leaning to one side or the other, straightening and freezing your posture, cradling your neck with one or both hands, crossing your arms, cracking your knuckles, or biting your nails.

"Although communications weren't necessarily poor at my previous employ, I did notice that there were more training and mentoring opportunities than there should be. It was more of an issue of communicating a shared vision and coordinating the goals of the team, and I realized this stuff should be basic knowledge. So I took a look at the employee training guide and recognized several kaizen opportunities there. So I took it home, jotted down several ideas for revisions, and proposed them to my boss the next day. They loved the suggestion, and they gave me the go-ahead to generate the first draft. But I kind of went all out and finished it, and they loved it. They commended me on driving the company vision even further and had me spearhead many of our other communications moving forward."
