"Although I am aware of many of the email marketing platforms currently available, I have experience working with Drip and Constant Contact. Although Constant Contact is one of the most well-known platforms, I find that Drip offers more powerful intelligent tools that allow users to make more strategic communication decisions when it comes to segmentation and automation. "

"My experience with email marketing platforms has been primarily with Constant Contact, but I am familiar with several others including Drip, ConvertKit and MailChimp. I have enough knowledge with these tools to understand that each of them have their pro's and con's. For example, MailChimp has excellent support which may come in handy when dealing with the language they use which is less than straightforward. ConvertKit makes segmentation easy for users, but its automation workflow capabilities are limited compared to other platforms."

Salesforce Marketing Cloud finds that bringing together people with diverse skill sets to accomplish a goal is important when developing or improving upon any marketing platform with a wide array of capabilities. The challenge is taking full advantage of each person skills and talents to build the most competitive product.

On a general level, talk about how you would go about accomplishing this difficult task, and if possible, touch upon any hurdles you may need to overcome along the way. Be prepared to answer possible follow-up questions as the interviewer may ask for details in your response.

"Based on my experience working in different technical departments over the years, I know there is a wide variety of skills people with a technical background can have. It will be important to outline the technical needs of the marketing tools we are creating before building the team and assigning specific tasks. Once the needs are clearly defined, technical team members would be matched up to tasks based on their skill set and experience. There would be some difficulty balancing skills and experience with interests. We may be faced with situations where the needs of the project will have to override the personal interests of the individual. I believe we can reach a level of compromise where team members can work collaboratively with others on different tasks, but they would still have a main task for which they are responsible."

"As a preliminary step, I would conduct a thorough review of the product development process for the Marketing Automation platform. This will give the technical team members a clear picture of what technical needs will arise and how their skills and experience will fit into the larger pictures. After giving the team time, I would gain individual feedback on where they believe their technical skills would add the most value. I understand that the initial assignment of roles may not be perfect and require adjustments over time based on outcomes and individual feedback. Despite what roles they are eventually assigned to, it's important the team members continue to learn technical skills from one another as the development process progresses."

As a team member in our technical department, what do you believe will be the most valuable skill you have to offer Salesforce Marketing Cloud as we continue to strive to be a competitive player in marketing automation and various other marketing tools?

An important aspect of good web development is the ability to make the site user-friendly, and being able to balance that with the robust capabilities of the site. This is important when developing online marketing tools where many core users may have a non-technical background."

Salesforce Marketing Cloud offers a few different online marketing tools to its clients and we are continually evaluating opportunities to expand our offerings. What types of online marketing tools have you had experience with from the developer side?
Salesforce Marketing Cloud's mission is to provide its customers with tools that increase the efficiency and value of their online marketing efforts. Hiring managers would like to consider candidates who have a holistic view of online marketing tools and not necessarily focused on a small subset of it.

If you have developer experience with online marketing tools, explain in some detail the tool's purpose and function. If you do not have developer experience with online marketing tools, mention any other developer work experiences that you can relate to a particular online marketing tool.

Reporting and analytics capabilities are easily one of the most important features of an advertising platform. Your answer to this question should show your understanding of the reporting and analytics capabilities of advertising platforms in general, and particularly with that of Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

"The reporting and analytics capabilities of an advertising platform is crucial as client companies are looking to ensure their advertising efforts are effective and are reaping the benefits of their investment. Beyond the basic measures such as click-through-rate and open rates, I believe it is important that an advertising platform has the ability to integrate a variety of data. This includes things such as geographics and demographics data for different advertising channels and data from different devices. This allows companies to better understand the customer journey. Based on my research, all of these capabilities are offered with Salesforce Marketing Cloud's advertising platform and much more including the ability to evaluate advertising channels clients may not be currently advertising with."

"An important feature from an analytics and reporting perspective is the ability to customize their reports and integrate data from outside sources. The higher the level of customization offered to client companies, the better they will be able to evaluate the advertising efforts unique to their business. In addition, being able to integrate data from a source outside of the advertising platform will also allow companies to better tailor their analyses to answer their strategic questions. The advertising platform offered by Salesforce Marketing Cloud offers robust reporting and analytics capabilities that can be customized based on the client's needs. "

Cold calling, warm calling, prospecting, and building a sales pipeline - these are all tasks generally associated with most financial services roles. Assure the interviewer that you are capable and willing to do what it takes to get the sales results you need!

To help build and improve Salesforce Marketing Cloud's online marketing tools, candidates need to have foundation of online marketing knowledge. This knowledge will help with the planning and building of tools based on user requirements.

Select a few ways that you see companies using online marketing to communicate to current and potential customers. Methods include email, social media and search engine optimization (SEO), among many others. Provide a bit of detail on why you think companies may choose a particular method of another and the possible disadvantages of using it.

"There are many ways companies market their products and services online. I believe some of the more frequently used methods include email marketing and social media. Email marketing provides a great way for companies to send information rich content and offers directly to customers and prospects. However, email recipients can easily unsubscribe or sometimes sending too many emails may anger the recipient. Another method is through social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram. These avenues allow for targeting based on demographics and interests. However, sometimes social media channels may be cost prohibitive for some smaller companies."

"With the cost of postage continually rising, online marketing may be a more cost effective marketing method for many companies. Two marketing strategies commonly used is Search Engine Optimization and Display Ads. Search Engine Optimization can be employed in many ways through a company's website or through Search Engine Marketing efforts which involved creating Google Ads, some of which may include display ads. Depending on the industry in which they compete, Search Engine Optimization allows companies to cast a wide net to attract interest in their offerings at an affordable price. If companies provide products that would be better represented visually, display ads may be the right method for them."

Social media messaging is becoming a frequently used tool for online marketers. Salesforce has clients using this channel to market their products/services. Describe your experience or knowledge with these types of apps, particularly as a developer.
Social media messaging allows marketers to more easily connect with their audience, because they are meeting them where they 'hang out'. This is particularly true with the younger population. It is important for Salesforce Marketing Cloud to offer tools that will allow its clients to easily create and deliver social media messages.

Any experience you may have working on these types of apps will be helpful in developing Salesforce Marketing Cloud's social media messaging tools, whether as a developer or in a different capacity. If you do not have direct experience working on social media messaging apps, talk about your personal social media messaging experience and additional knowledge you may have on the subject from a marketing perspective.

As a developer, I used client feedback to improve these tools and develop new capabilities. I was able to witness firsthand how marketers were able to target their marketing communications to the appropriate populations, thereby allowing for a higher return on their marketing spends. Some issues I have dealt with in the troubleshooting phase of development include the collection of data from these social media messaging apps."

Having some knowledge of digital marketing is helpful in the development of marketing automation platforms along with the various other marketing tools Salesforce Marketing Cloud may offer. Having a strong digital marketing background will allow you to understand better which product specifications and capabilities would be important for marketers managing digital campaigns. It is essential to, at least on a general level, understand the process marketers go through from planning to launching to tracking.

My role was to ensure, from a technical perspective, that they had the necessary tools to launch and evaluate their campaigns successfully. Although this was not specifically a developer role, I learned a great deal about the needs of a digital marketer, and I believe, with the combination of this knowledge and my technical skills, I can make major contributions to Salesforce Marketing Cloud's marketing tools."

This knowledge is based on my experience as a customer receiving digital marketing pieces as well as research I have conducted. My research included informational interviews with digital marketers in my professional network."

I have experience implementing artificial intelligence into chatbots for a large e-commerce company. Our team used large data sets to develop algorithms used by chatbots to address customer service issues online. The development was an ongoing process of adjusting algorithms to ensure customer communications effectively and efficiently addressed the issues."

In addition, with the advent of voice assistants such as Alexa, voice search will be an important aspect of online marketing and artificial intelligence plays a role in this as well.
