I have worked with companies to link their databases to their email marketing tools to find more impactful ways to customize messages. In the process, I learned how improvements in database structures and data stored can help build more impactful messages."

"Working with marketing departments of various companies, I have learned the importance of having an impactful message. Customization is one effective way to do this. Although my technical experience in this area may appear limited, I believe my experience on the marketing side will help to build better tools and processes to streamline email marketing customization. Making the process more efficient will help marketers concentrate resources on strategy and less on tasks that can be planned ahead of time."

Salesforce Marketing Cloud offers a few different online marketing tools to its clients, and we are continually evaluating opportunities to expand our offerings. What types of online marketing tools have you had experience with from the developer side?

"As a developer, I have had experience working with tools that allow marketers to send emails to customers and prospects with high delivery rates, while tracking the essential data to measure the effectiveness of email marketing campaigns. In addition, I have helped to develop and troubleshoot graphic design tools that allow marketers to create display ads in a quick and cost efficient way."

Salesforce Marketing Cloud's mission is to provide its customers with tools that increase the efficiency and value of their online marketing efforts. Hiring managers would like to consider candidates who have a holistic view of online marketing tools and are not necessarily focused on a small subset of it.If you have developer experience with online marketing tools, explain in some detail the tool's purpose and function. If you do not have developer experience with online marketing tools, mention any other developer work experiences that you can relate to a particular online marketing tool.

"Although my experience as a developer does not include online marketing tools, many of the projects I have worked on required skills that could be easily applied to online marketing tools. For example, I have worked on developing analytics tools which are valuable to marketers looking to evaluate their online marketing efforts. Also, my database and data warehouse experience will be helpful in further developing these tools to ensure connectivity with warehouses or databases."

At Salesforce Marketing Cloud, we find product development experience to be valuable for members of the technical team. Talk about your product development experience and what stages of the process you find to be the most challenging.

"Working as a software engineer in a few different corporations, I had the fortunate opportunity to participate in product development projects. These projects were for new products that complemented our current offerings. I had the opportunity to actively participate in all phases - from brainstorming to final product release. One of the most challenging aspects of working in these groups was understanding the roles and perspectives of team members, most of whom worked in different departments. However, this challenge resulted in an invaluable learning experience for me as I gained a better understanding of the company and product development process overall."

At Salesforce Marketing Cloud, having some form of product development experience is very helpful, as it gives team members a holistic view of its products. Technical team members are encouraged to view the project from different perspectives and to not be caught up in the programming or troubleshooting of the products. Share your product development experiences, which may include involvement in all phases or maybe only a couple. In your response, include what aspect of your experiences you found to be most challenging and why.

"As a software developer, I have had experience working on product development teams in different capacities. My various roles had me contributing to different phases of the project including brainstorming, programming and product release. In each of these roles, I offered a technical perspective on the proposed product. At times, my participation in these projects proved to be difficult as I tried to communicate the more technical aspects of the product to a non-technical audience. Despite the difficulties, I believe I learned a great deal about the different development phases and the roles each department plays."

There are several components of a robust advertising platform. Which ones do you find to be the most valuable to a company running frequent advertising campaigns?

"At times, larger clients may have several campaigns running simultaneously, as they launch different targeted campaigns through different channels. Due to the high volume of campaigns, it is important to have the ability to launch, manage, and track all of these campaigns seamlessly. The availability of information to make these decisions quickly will also be important, and this can be addressed through a platform's analytics capabilities. The user friendliness of the interface is also very important to execute these campaigns."

"Clients running advertising campaigns frequently would benefit from investing in a powerful advertising platform. What are important reporting and analytics capabilities an advertising platform should have?

"The reporting and analytics capabilities of an advertising platform is crucial, as companies are looking to ensure their advertising efforts are effective and are reaping the benefits of their investment. Beyond the basic measures such as click-through-rate and open rates, I believe it is important that an advertising platform has the ability to integrate a variety of data. This includes items such as geographic and demographic data for different advertising channels and data from different devices. This allows companies to better understand the customer journey. Based on my research, all of these capabilities are offered with Salesforce Marketing Cloud's advertising platform and much more, including the ability to evaluate advertising channels clients may not be currently advertising with."

Reporting and analytics capabilities are easily one of the most important features of an advertising platform. Your answer to this question should show your understanding of the reporting and analytics capabilities of advertising platforms in general, and particularly with that of Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

"An important feature from an analytics and reporting perspective is the ability to customize their reports and integrate data from outside sources. The higher the level of customization offered to client companies, the better they will be able to evaluate the advertising efforts unique to their business. In addition, being able to integrate data from a source outside of the advertising platform will also allow companies to better tailor their analyses to answer their strategic questions. The advertising platform offered by Salesforce Marketing Cloud offers robust reporting and analytics capabilities that can be customized based on the client's needs. "

As an increasing number of people are accessing content via mobile devices, Salesforce wants to ensure that it is offering tools that address these trends. What experience do you have developing mobile applications, as it relates to online marketing?

"In my previous position as a developer, I had the opportunity to work on a mobile marketing platform that allowed marketers to manage and measure their mobile marketing efforts in one place. This tool allowed for easy customization, personalization, and tracking of marketing campaigns. My responsibility as a developer was to implement additional capabilities based on user feedback. This required me to stay abreast of changing trends in the online marketing industry."

Working in an industry such as online advertising, it is crucial that team members keep up with technology trends. As most companies do, Salesforce Marketing Cloud shifts its resources to address trends, such as mobile marketing. If you do not have experience as a developer of mobile applications, but you have some work experience related to it, then mention that. At the very minimum, be prepared, research mobile marketing tools, and share what you have learned.

"As a developer, I have not had experience working directly with mobile marketing tools. However, I have worked with different marketing technologies such as content management systems and email marketing tools. My work with a variety of clients on these tools helped me gain knowledge on the overall Online Marketing industry, including mobile marketing. I understand there are different mobile marketing tools and platforms available that allow marketers to create, deliver and track mobile marketing campaigns. I understand the importance of making sure marketing content is visually appealing when delivered or viewed on mobile devices."

What is your experience with the analytical capabilities of email marketing tools?

"Analytics is an incredibly important aspect of email marketing, as it reveals if a company's efforts are producing the desired results. Most, if not all, email marketing tools have an analytics component. This may include predefined reports, interactive tools, or both. Through my previous projects, I have had opportunities to utilize some of these analytics tools. In many cases, I have found that these tools do not completely meet the analytics needs of a company, requiring the creation of customized solutions. Using a combination of the platform's available analytics capabilities and a custom built tool, I have helped companies more fully meet their analytics needs with respect to email marketing. I believe Salesforce Marketing Cloud's tool has excellent analytical capabilities that can be customized to meet clients' needs."

This allows analysts to get the most out of the tool when managing their company's advertising campaigns. In addition, because it offers so many capabilities, marketers and analysts do not have to toggle between different tools to manage and measure their advertising efforts. Facebook Business is also a well-known platform that has the name recognition, and following that makes it an effective option for many companies' advertising efforts. Its ability to give real-time information gives marketers the ability to revise advertising efforts in a snap. Salesforce Marketing Cloud's platform has the potential to be competitive over time. It will be important to build user interfaces and analytical and reporting capabilities that are robust and easy to use. With my knowledge of platforms available in the industry, I believe I can help Salesforce Marketing Cloud reach its potential."

Although the user friendliness of Salesforce Marketing Cloud's tool is comparable, based on my assessment, the targeting and data capabilities could be more robust. I think I could make valuable contributions towards those efforts."

Tell me about your experience working with databases, specifically as it relates to email marketing platforms.

"Without a reliable connection between a company's customer data and its email marketing platform, customer emails would be significantly less impactful. However, it is important to understand that it is essential to have a two-way connection between a company's databases and the platform, as data should be fed back into a database and stored, such as open rates and click-through rates. I have experience working with database connections in both situations, ensuring data is correctly transferred and stored in databases. My experience includes troubleshooting issues that led to incorrect personalization of emails and corrupt data being transferred back to the company."

Databases are an integral part of email marketing platforms. Data stored in these databases are responsible for personalization and segmentation of email communications. Detail your database experience while working with email marketing platforms. If for some reason your database experience is limited, make sure you are able to communicate your understanding of the vital relationship between a company's customer database and its email marketing platform.

"My extensive experience working with data as it relates to email marketing campaigns has exposed me to database issues that may emerge unexpectedly. I have seen the effects of having errors in database connections or corrupt data and the importance of ensuring customer data is stored properly in databases. It not only affects a company's ability to send appropriate messages to its customers, but it also can prevent companies from conducting meaningful analyses of their email marketing efforts."

To help Salesforce Marketing Cloud remain a strong competitor in marketing automation, it is important to have some knowledge of our competitors. Have you had experience working on or with any other marketing automation platforms or software?

"I have experience managing the launch of Hubspot Marketing at the last company for which I worked. The Marketing team in our company chose to use this Marketing Automation platform for the management of its marketing campaigns, and I was tasked with the technical implementation. Based on my observations, Hubspot Marketing helped the Marketing team plan for and launch integrated campaigns in an organized and efficient manner, allowing for customized messages based on the target population. The interface also makes it user-friendly, allowing new users to be trained quickly. Based on my knowledge and experience of these types of platforms, there seem to be opportunities to develop the analytical and AI capabilities to help marketers make smarter decisions."

Having some knowledge or experience with marketing automation tools offered by other companies helps team members have a better understanding of Salesforce Marketing Cloud's position in the marketplace. My technical background tells me that Marketo offers a platform that is easily integratable into most companies' systems as it works with Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, among many others. User friendliness and the expansion of digital marketing capabilities seem to be two areas that Marketing Automation companies are continually expanding on. I believe that analytics and tracking of marketing campaigns needs continual improvement and is an area that Salesforce Marketing Cloud could concentrate its product efforts on."

"I believe my web development skills would be an asset as Salesforce Marketing Cloud strives to reach its competitive goals. I have had years of experience developing websites with a vast array of capabilities for a variety of large companies. An important aspect of good web development is the ability to make the site user-friendly and being able to balance that with the robust capabilities of the site. This is important when developing online marketing tools where many core users may have a non-technical background."

"I have been in a sales based role for the past 10 years. My best year at Company A, I finished 125% to quota. With Company B, I began from the ground up and left with a portfolio of business worth $$$. In my last position, with Company C, I was the top grossing financial services employee in our branch at 167% to target."

I have experience implementing artificial intelligence into chatbots for a large e-commerce company. Our team used large data sets to develop algorithms used by chatbots to address customer service issues online. The development was an ongoing process of adjusting algorithms to ensure customer communications effectively and efficiently addressed the issues."

Email marketing automation tools help them prepare the right message ready to send at the click of a button, allowing them to communicate in a timely manner. I have worked with companies to improve their email marketing automation processes. Through my experiences, I have learned ways to improve automation tools to better meet the communication needs of companies. I have gained much knowledge in using data analytics to improve email marketing automation processes and tools."

"Although I am aware of many of the email marketing platforms currently available, I have experience working with Drip and Constant Contact. Although Constant Contact is one of the most well-known platforms, I find that Drip offers more powerful, intelligent tools that allow users to make more strategic communication decisions when it comes to segmentation and automation."

For example, MailChimp has excellent support which may come in handy when dealing with the language they use which is less than straightforward. ConvertKit makes segmentation easy for users, but its automation workflow capabilities are limited compared to other platforms."

Do you have experience in cold calling? If so, tell me about your targets and results.

"I have experience in cold calling and all other forms of generating new and repeat business. I took a workshop last year on the art of cold calling, as well. In my most recent position, I made approximately 100 cold calls per week."

Cold calling, warm calling, prospecting, and building a sales pipeline - these are all tasks generally associated with most financial services roles. Assure the interviewer that you are capable and willing to do what it takes to get the sales results you need!

"I am new to my career in financial services and sales; however, I have taken an online course focused on cold calling. This course was incredibly helpful and I look forward to meeting and exceeding my targets with Salesforce Marketing Cloud."

The technical team at Salesforce is made up of people with a wide variety of technical skills, some of whom are highly specialized. How would you manage a technical team like this in order to successfully build competitive online marketing tools?

"Based on my experience working in different technical departments over the years, I know there is a wide variety of skills people with a technical background can have. It will be important to outline the technical needs of the marketing tools we are creating before building the team and assigning specific tasks. Once the needs are clearly defined, technical team members would be matched up to tasks based on their skill set and experience. There could be some difficulty balancing skills and experience with interests. We may be faced with situations where the needs of the project will have to override the personal interests of the individual. These opportunities also allow me to network and learn from my industry peers."
