"My favorite resources include the Homeland Security website where I dive into topics on cybersecurity and counterterrorism as well as the Homeland Security blog. I also subscribe to a private blog called 'All Things Counter Terrorism' written by Leah Farrall, who previously worked as a Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Analyst. She is also an Al-Qaeda specialist. I believe that it's critical to continually educate myself and embrace on-going learning since law enforcement and security topics change every day."

I currently stay up to date with the new legislature that typically applies to a patrol officer. Some of the information also applies to border security. I am currently subscribed to FLETC legal updates which I review. If hired with your organization. I would become more knowledgeable with laws concerning border protection and subscribe to legal updates regarding federal law.

With the potential of working in any career, I feel that it is absolutely necessary to stay up to date on current events pertaining to your work. This is extremely prevalent while working in law enforcement as one of the main missions is keeping the public safe. I have had a strong interest in law enforcement's current events, particularly those having to do with homeland security as my family was directly affected by the events that took place on September 11th. Ways that I do this are by being an active visitor to the CBP website as well as watching both local and international news, with a focus on crime data.

Excellent response! You come across as passionate, enthusiastic, and engaged. Your mention of 9/11 will undoubtedly resonate with anyone you speak to (sincerely sorry that your family was directly affected). It's great that you visit the CBP website and watch the news. Do you also read newspapers and/or industry magazines, attend conferences, or network with like-minded professionals? These are all other ways you can stay in the loop; mention any that are relevant to you. Good job!
Prepare for behavioral assessments and situational questions unique to federal law enforcement interviews.
