"A member of one of my teams was interested in pursuing a leadership position but didn't think they could compete with the other people who were also interested in moving up the ladder. I strongly believed they could do it and were more suited to a leadership position than anyone else interested in throwing their hat in the ring. They had the right attitude, a lot of sense and drive, and were constantly challenging themselves to do better. So I told them that I believed if anyone could do it, they could and that the only person they had to compete with was themselves. I mentored them, and they fast-tracked their way to success. They did all the work themselves. All I did was remind them that they had the right stuff."
