"The high suicide rate among dentists is troubling and complex, with various contributing factors. Whether it be stress, burnout, isolation, or mental health stigma, I firmly believe that as a dental student, it is essential to understand the challenges that dental school and professional fields entail. As a Tajik immigrant from a community that tends to ignore issues regarding mental health, I must continue to educate and increase my awareness of mental health problems. I have done so by participating in various seminars and mental health training where I learned about support, resources, and encouragement of open discussion. Such opportunities have allowed me to build a balance of personal life, work, and school. I put conscious effort into maintaining my support system of friends and family by delegating my time to spend quality time with them."
