1. Tell me about a time you recently received feedback and criticism on your work.
What You Need to Know
Your admissions interviewers are interested in how you respond to criticism. They want to know if you take advantage of the positives gained from a learning opportunity and if you are confident and mature and express gratitude for the opportunity to improve your skills and grow. They will assess how you respond to feedback, constructive or negative. They're likewise curious if you are easily offended or defensive and if you respond with fear and are quick to re-assign blame, whether justified or not.
Understanding that not everyone communicates the same requires empathy. It may have been somewhat brave of the person to deliver the feedback to you in the first place. The fact they are volunteering reflects that they care. Inaction would reflect apathy.
However, not all feedback will be delivered in a friendly, easy-to-absorb manner. If someone delivers negative feedback in an unprofessional manner, that's a reflection of their mood or outlook. Being able to recognize this and not be negatively affected exhibits maturity and a high EQ. Consider this when thinking of a time you received feedback or criticism that may have felt hurtful or unfair. Share how you reacted productively.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"Last year, I received a low grade on a chemistry project. When I approached my professor about the low grade, he said, 'You can do better. I expected more from you.' I was taken aback at first, but once I had time to absorb what was said, I realized that he expected more from me because he had high expectations of what I could do. It was a compliment and a challenge rolled into one! I re-did the assignment with more passion the second time around. My grade improved significantly, and I thanked that professor for holding me to a higher standard."

I studied hard and ended up doing a lot better on the second quiz. I was a little taken aback since I hadn't had a professor who was that connected with students that they kept tabs on how each student was doing. I was grateful that she criticized my work and that I was able to show what I knew."

2. As a dentist, what impact do you hope to have?
What You Need to Know
Your interviewers are curious about what altruistic motivators drive the pursuit of your career of choice. They want to determine if making a positive and lasting impact on the dental profession is part of your plan or what fuels your ambition.
From their Midwestern's website: "As a Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.), you are trained to diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth and tissues in the mouth, and to give advice and provide care to help prevent future problems. You help patients learn to take good care of their teeth and gums as part of overall good health. In addition, you extract or repair damaged teeth, remove tooth decay and fill cavities, examine x-rays, perform corrective surgery, and make models to replace missing teeth. Increasingly, you provide care and instruction aimed at preventing tooth loss, rather than simply providing treatments such as fillings. Dentists provide services to populations abroad and work for agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Many volunteer to bring dentistry to aid people in developing countries."
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"I have chosen to become a dentist because of the broad impact I can make on my patients, their families, and my community. Being a dentist is a career where I can impact others by getting to know my patients on a closer level than most healthcare providers can. I say this because the mouth and the state of one's mouth have an incredible influence on someone's confidence level. The mouth also impacts so many health aspects, including how and what someone eats and drinks, their sleep quality, and even how they talk. As a dentist, I will improve the profession by bringing this whole-health knowledge and mindset to my patients. When my patients feel motivated and empowered to take their entire health into their hands, it will create a trickle-down effect on other aspects of their lives, including their family members' well-being. This ripple will help create greater respect for oral health care, improving how the public views our profession and how often a patient visits the dentist."

3. Why dentistry and not another medical field?
What You Need to Know
Your admissions interviewer is well aware that many students start their college experience convinced they will pursue one career path but later realize their perception of what that looks like contrasts with reality. Your interviewer wants to save their potential students any unnecessary expenses in tuition costs just as much as they want to preserve the graduation rate and track record for success. With so many career options available in the healthcare realm, share why you have chosen to pursue dentistry in particular. The more specific you can be in your response, the more genuine your reply will feel.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"There are many rewarding professions that I could have pursued within the healthcare industry; however, I specifically chose dentistry because I have experienced firsthand how restoring oral health can change a person's life. From a young age, I had significant bite and jaw issues. I suffered for years from headaches, tension, and dizziness. It wasn't until I visited a highly credible dentist that I was told some of my health issues might be due to my poor bite and the tension in my jaw. I was referred to an orthodontist who put me on a 16-month plan that included an oral stent, Invisalign, and therapeutic ultrasound for myofascial pain. I already knew that I wanted to work in the medical industry; however, this experience prompted me to look further into dentistry as a profession. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to learn more about dentistry and help my future patients transform their health."

4. How do you respond when facing academic difficulties?
What You Need to Know
Facing academic challenges is inevitable for any student, but the heart of this question is whether you can handle such difficulties with emotional intelligence and poise. Some students may respond emotionally to their setbacks. Those feelings may feel amplified by the other stressors they may experience. For many, this can lead to emotionally driven responses, such as perceiving dropping out of school as the only mental health option to address their woes.
There's an expression that you are never supposed to make life-changing decisions from a place of emotional stress. Your admissions interviewer uses this question to gauge your ability to logically process an academic challenge while not allowing your emotions to dictate your behavior or inhibit your progress and productivity. Discuss how you recover from such setbacks and how you navigate and overcome them.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"When I have encountered academic difficulty in the past, I have recognized the issue early and approached my professor for additional information or study resources. With these resources, I will either increase the time spent reviewing the class material or engage another person to increase my understanding of the topic. For instance, during my biophysical chemistry class this year, I fell behind as we approached the subject of molecular interactions. To ensure my success, I hired a Department of Chemistry tutor. This approach was beneficial, and I gained a much clearer understanding of the subject, which helped my grade. Should I face difficulties while attending dental school, I will not hesitate to seek outside assistance."

5. How have you prepared yourself for the coursework and expectations of dental school?
What You Need to Know
Attending dental school is a highly involved commitment, and your actions towards preparing for this opportunity say a lot about your ambition and commitment. Yet, this question goes deeper than possibly relocating to a new city, the financial stress, and how you've mentally prepared to ground yourself. It also concerns the actions you've taken to prepare yourself for the hard work ahead and the research you've performed to understand what that future looks like, in addition to putting in the work necessary before you are even accepted into a university.
For example, the following is from their website: "To prepare for a career in dental medicine, your pre-professional education should include courses in biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, physics, health, and mathematics. For admission, most professional schools of dental medicine require a bachelor's degree, often in a science-related subject, as well as recommendations, evidence of community involvement, and a personal interview." Consider these points when thoroughly answering this question.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"I have formed a three-pronged plan to tackle the stressors that may come up for me during dental school. These three approaches will address my academic stress, the emotional strain of adjusting to my new surroundings as I relocate, and the financial strain I will experience due to paying for dental school. For academic stress, I plan to create a study schedule that I will stick to closely. I will join study groups to gain a broader perspective from others, and I have made arrangements for a part-time tutor if needed. For the strain that will result from uprooting myself, I have planned to join a couple of university clubs to get to know other students and make new friends, avoiding feelings of loneliness. I also plan to Facetime my family every week to prevent myself from feeling homesick. I have come to terms with the financial expectations of becoming a dentist. I have created a solid financial plan to pay back my loans, and I enlisted a financial advisor to help me create a student budget that I will adhere to closely. I feel well-prepared to cope with and address the immense workload and other expectations ahead of me as a dental school student."

6. I’m sure you’ve heard of the high suicide rate among dentists. What are your thoughts on this as you enter the field?
What You Need to Know
There are a few risk factors when it comes to occupational suicide, including feelings of job-related isolation (confinement in a small, often windowless, room or lacking colleagues to commiserate with), demanding and underappreciated work (patients often complain that they hate going to the dentists, and often express this while in the dental chair), stressful work environments, work/home imbalance, and financial pressures. These aspects can weigh heavily on some personality types more than others, especially for more conscientious or empathetic individuals.
Explain how you plan to cope with and overcome these controllables, such as maintaining a balance between your home life and personal time and your professional life. Divulge how you strike mental balance and harmony through meditation, fitness, spending time in the great outdoors or gardening, going for a hike now and then, or diving into a hobby.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"I am aware that the suicide rate for dentists is high. I try to make sure that I meditate regularly, do yoga, and work out every day. These hobbies help me with stress management as a student, and I plan to carry these habits into my professional life."

7. How do cope emotionally when you suffer a setback?
What You Need to Know
Everyone processes the stress and disappointment of setbacks differently. But in the medical field, these may feel more impactful and could be an integral part of your training as a dentist. Consider what your best looks like, despite your professional setbacks or disappointments.
Taking setbacks in stride, analyzing what you could have done differently, and learning from the experience exhibits emotional maturity and growth. Being disappointed is normal and expected. But allowing your emotions to dictate your behavior and responses won't move you closer to success. Discuss with the interviewers how you typically cope with setbacks, what you learn from them, and how you recover and apply what you've learned to shore up your success in the future.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"Experiencing a setback is always disappointing and can be very disheartening, especially when involving a project that I have put a lot of time and effort into. I understand that setbacks happen to everyone - despite their level of expertise or years of experience. If I experience a major setback, I will take a few moments to debrief internally, get some fresh air if possible, or discuss what I could have done differently with a mentor. Then, I move on. Rather than dwell on my mistakes, I choose to learn from them."

8. How well do you think this interview has gone today?
What You Need to Know
This question serves a few purposes. It can be a stress test, where they can study your stress responses in real-time. It can also test your emotional intelligence and self-awareness. But the best purpose this question serves is to provide you an opportunity to touch on questions you wish you had answered differently.
When answering this question, never ask the interviewer how they think you are doing. That will undermine your confidence. Instead, inform them of where you feel you could have performed a little better. Revisit any questions you feel you need to and exude confidence and positivity.

Answer Example
"I feel that I was well-prepared for the questions you asked me today and am happy with my performance in this interview. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me today. Can I ask if there is anything I can clarify for you or elaborate on from today's conversation?"

9. Tell me about your source of inspiration.
What You Need to Know
Inspiration is being motivated or driven to action by something external to you that served as a revelation for something you hadn't or wouldn't have considered possible or worth aspiring to. Therefore, your inspiration can come from anywhere. After researching your past and what prompted or furthered you down your path, share the person, place, thing, or event which inspired you and continues to inspire and motivate you further along your journey. Perform a thorough research on the school, its mission, and values, and draw parallels between them and your source of inspiration. Describe the qualities of Midwestern University's College of Dental Medicine which inspired you to pursue your education with them.

Answer Example
"I find inspiration in a variety of people and things. I would have to say that the person who has most greatly inspired me has been my grandmother. She always had a smile on her face no matter how hard she worked, and she loved everyone. She was well respected and always gave more than she received. I try to live like her as much as I can."

10. Do you feel like you have the necessary support of your family to attend dental school?
What You Need to Know
The interviewers want to know whether you'd have the support required for this challenging chapter of your life and are looking for assurances that you'd be able to sustain your commitment through graduation. There is also the aspect of financial support and navigating your way into the real world away from home, especially for those who attended community colleges before branching out. Therefore, the support one's family and friends offer can be instrumental in your chances of success. Discuss your support system and the manners in which your family and friends support your chosen career path. If someone in your family has dentistry experience, don't leave that on the table.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"My family is incredibly proud of me for attending dental school. My father is especially keen as he also graduated from Midwestern University. 11. What are you reading right now?
What You Need to Know
Your answer doesn't necessarily need to be a book. It could be a paper, a study, someone else's thesis, anything. It could be a work of fiction as well. What someone is reading for entertainment can say a lot about a person. However, your response should be at a collegiate reading level or higher. If you decide to volunteer something more lighthearted, like a young adult or MG sci-fi/fantasy or romance novel, pair it with something else you may be reading that is more advanced. You could score extra points by advertising you read multiple books simultaneously with ease. If you are not currently reading anything because you're devoting your attention to other priorities, share something you've recently read that had an impact on you.

Answer Example

13. What gives you a competing edge over other dentistry students with the same qualifications?
What You Need to Know
Your admissions interviewers have some tough choices ahead of them. They are trying to determine which candidates have the most determination, skills, and emotional aptitude to excel in their programs. They are looking for unique qualities or statements that make you stand out from the other students wishing to attend Midwestern University's College of Dental Medicine. This question provides you the opportunity to make their choice easier.
In situations such as these, actions speak louder than words. So interlace the breadth of the research you've performed into your answers. For example, this is copied from their website: "If you are the type of person who has a good visual memory, excellent judgment regarding space, shape, and color, a high degree of manual dexterity, scientific aptitude, business sense, self-discipline, and communication skills, and you enjoy knowing a diverse range of people from different backgrounds, a career in dental medicine may be just right for you."

Before your interview, research the areas of specialty that Midwestern University's College of Dental Medicine offers. The school offers more programs and options that you may be aware of. 15. What course of action would you take if you aren't accepted into Midwestern University's College of Dental Medicine this year?
What You Need to Know
The admissions interviewers have some tough decisions about who gets in and who doesn't. When choosing their students, they want to ensure that those they accept possess the necessary level of commitment to see their pursuits through. Therefore, they want to know that you've thought out a strategy in the event of not being accepted into Midwestern University this round or at all. Your answer to this question should exhibit an interest in this pursuit, which goes deeper than acceptance into this particular school this particular semester. Inform your interviewers that one rejection won't stop you. Talk about your plan to reapply if rejected, to get a head start on your studies, or to apply aggressively to other universities in other cities or even internationally. Whatever the path you choose, reveal your confidence and drive.

18. Midwestern University invests in the continual development of our students. How do you plan to match our contributions to your personal and professional growth?
What You Need to Know
A self-development plan holds value for any career-minded professional, no matter their profession. This is a great time to formulate a five-year career plan, starting with where you are and where you'd like to be in five years. Then, break down those seemingly unsurmountable macro-goals into more attainable micro-goals. Project a timeline for how long you think it will take to accomplish each milestone while constantly revising and adjusting it as you proceed.
This process involves a great deal of mental preparation as well. Think of each setback as a growth opportunity. Anytime you fail, learn what you did wrong and retake the test. With this approach, you are sure to pass each test eventually and will continue to drive your success forward.
Sharing this will offer Midwestern University insights on how to help you with your plan and achieve each of your goals. Your plan shows that you invest in your growth and provides a roadmap on how they can equal your contributions. If they are going to invest in you, they need to know that you also plan to invest in yourself. Maintaining this five-year plan throughout your career will have the same effect today as it will up until your retirement.

24. What qualities should a dentist possess above all others?
What You Need to Know
The interviewers want to see whether you embrace similar values as the university itself and if you have educated yourself on their values. The school's website states, "You will be well-prepared for your direct entry into dental practice as a competent, confident, and competitive clinician and well-prepared to build your career as a member of tomorrow's healthcare team." Knowing this is what they hope to help you achieve and the values they perceive as necessary as a dentist, you should be able to effectively answer this question. But think about the other questions in this set as well. They also value emotional intelligence, determination, commitment, and direction, among many other traits. Do your research and study, and you should have no trouble answering this question.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I believe that the most important quality for a dentist to possess is integrity. A dentist with integrity will always put their patients' needs before their own financial interests. They will treat their support staff with respect and be dedicated to bettering themselves and their craft. I am actively working on increasing my integrity level in various personal and professional situations. I show integrity by keeping my appointments and commitments and fulfilling my promises."
Written by Rachelle Enns on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I believe a dentist should possess empathy, above and beyond all other attributes, as this will carry any helping provider throughout their career with the right directives. Without understanding my patients' concerns and complaints, I would be doing them a significant disservice by simply providing 'textbook treatment.' I have already been working on building my empathy skills by taking on volunteer experiences outside my comfort zone and carefully examining any unconscious bias I may possess."

1st Answer Example
"I am very proud of my achievements during my undergrad education. Those courses added so much value that I will bring to my graduate program. My best courses included X, Y, and Z. I feel that I excelled in these because they are related to the specialty I plan to enter. I can better myself in terms of time management. I overextended myself last semester with volunteer opportunities, and my study time suffered slightly. Now that I have identified the reason behind my time management challenges, I will only see improvement moving forward."

2nd Answer Example
"The basic sciences are the core courses for any pre-dental student, and I have shown in my GPA that I am well above average in my ability to excel in these courses. However, because I have spent so much time on those courses, you will see that my liberal arts courses have taken a back seat. That is because of the importance I placed on my basic science courses."

26. What are your thoughts on cases of medical malpractice in dentistry?
What You Need to Know
Every medical sector faces challenges, and dentistry is no exception. Since 80% of Midwestern University's College of Dental Medicine goes on to start their own practice, this is a relevant point of discussion that you should be aware of as you begin your educational pursuits. Share the extent of your knowledge and exhibit a mature outlook on the nuance and case-by-case situation of this issue. Assure them that you will strive to perform at your best with integrity and will be the kind of alumni that makes them proud.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"Yes, I am aware of malpractice cases in dentistry, and it can be disheartening to hear them sometimes. Although I would be diligent with my best work, there are no guarantees, and mistakes happen. If I faced a situation like that, I would take full responsibility for my part in the situation but would defend my expertise and decision-making skills. The best thing any medical professional can do is to try their best every day, document very well, and only work with patients that you trust."

27. Talk about the last dentistry-related article you read. What did you learn?
What You Need to Know
In an interview, you'll be asked questions that seem similar to others in the set. The interviewer does this to test your attention to detail and be able to find distinctions from one question to another. But, it also tests the consistency of your answers and the breadth of your knowledge. Be prepared to distinguish them from each other and exhibit that you are continually active in your self-development and pursuit of knowledge and that you remain actively involved in the conversations that impact your future career as a dentist. Think about the industry-related articles you have recently read. Be prepared to discuss what perked your interest and your biggest takeaway.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"I was reading 'Dentistry Today' the other day, an online publication I read every week. An article written by Dr. Roger Levin caught my eye. It discussed what dentistry would look like after COVID-19, a topic I have been following closely. The article brought up some interesting points, including the challenges we will face in dental staffing and further change in dental technology, which we will need to embrace to keep ourselves, patients, and staff safe. The biggest takeaway for me was that the author said those in the dental profession who prepare now and implement changes as soon as possible are most likely to see better outcomes."

What You Need to Know
An aspiring dental student striving to be a career-minded professional will always stay current on any trending news or development in their field. 29. How has COVID-19 and other pandemics of the past affected the dentistry profession?
What You Need to Know
COVID-19 seriously impacted college attendance countrywide and the dental industry. Talk about what you know about this impact and its imprint on the medical industry. Their website has a few pages dedicated to COVID-19, how it has affected their campus, and the action plans they have in place, including "operation hope." Read through it all, and be ready to share your research with your interviewer when prompted.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"COVID-19 and other pandemics have left a significant impact on the dentistry profession, including how we treat patients, the increased demand for clean air technology in dental offices, the increased demand and risk put on support staff, and PPE supply and demand. One significant impact that interests me most is how we will triage patients, ranking their needs from elective care to urgent care to emergency care. For instance, during the COVID-19 quarantine time, when most dentists were forced to shut down and stop offering regular cleanings and general care, and many practices were forced to determine better what qualified a patient for acute care. I look forward to learning about the long-term impact as I dive deeper into the dentistry profession."

30. What major issues do you think dentistry will face a decade into the future?
What You Need to Know
Your admissions interviewers are trying to gauge how in touch you are with the conversations arising in the dental industry regarding the challenges surrounding the aging population, the erratic politics surrounding affordable health care, technological developments in dental care, and increased demand.
After delivering your answer, remain open to discussion to further elaborate on those issues. Read their newsletter to see what the university is saying on these topics. Offer some positive statements regarding your hope for the industry and the positive impact your hope to make as a future dentist.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"I have spent a lot of time watching roundtable videos, reading journals on the future of dentistry, and diving into blogs related to the challenges dentists expect to face. The top issues include the aging population and the demand it will put on the dental industry, particularly for aesthetic treatments. This demand will increase the expectation to possess the newest and best technology and fully train their teams on these advancements. Still, the expenses associated with this are put primarily on the dentist. Also, with this fast and continuous change in dental tech, dentists will need to focus on continued education, again incurring significant expenses. I spoke with my dentist not long ago, and she estimates that, since becoming a dentist, she has invested at least $100,000 in continued education. In the future, I would love to see dentists gain access to more affordable options to continue educating themselves on the latest industry techniques. Further partnerships with the companies manufacturing this tech would benefit the dentist, the manufacturer, and the patient. Overall, I feel positive, knowing that our industry is ever-evolving. If we can find a way to make these changes financially sustainable for medical professionals, that would be the ideal situation."

31. Which resources do you use to stay current on developments in your field?
What You Need to Know
To stay current on the latest developments in your field, a career-minded professional should never have a "clocking out from work" mentality. A career-minded professional always has an active interest in their field. That exhibits passion. People with a passion for their career love doing what they do for a living. Your interviewers are gauging your genuine interest in continually learning about your craft.
Share any resources you tap into or subscribe to. List a few dental journals you like to read and discuss how often you dive into dental-related news. Share any recent industry trends, breakthroughs, developments, concerns, and anything else that caught your attention. Share something of interest that you've recently read. 32. What was your DAT score, and were you satisfied with it?
What You Need to Know
If you've already taken your DAT (Dental Admission Test), share your accomplishment. Most students take their DAT exam in the spring of their junior year of undergrad study or the summer between their junior and senior years. If you haven't yet taken the DAT, then share your SAT scores and the preparation, if any, you've taken for the DAT. As they state on their website, "To be competitive, an applicant should have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and possess both a science (biology, chemistry, and physics) and total GPA of 3.00 or more on a 4.00 scale."
A score of 17-18 is typically considered average. A Dental Admission Test score of 19-20 is good, and a score of 22+ is considered very high. The interviewers want to know your DAT score and how you felt about the score. Keep your answer straightforward and concise.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"I scored 22 in my DAT, which landed me in the 98th percentile for DAT scoring. I am thrilled with this score since I studied hard and felt that I was rewarded for my diligence."

33. Walk us through your approach to studying for exams.
What You Need to Know
There are many factors your admissions interviewer will take into consideration when selecting their future alumni. They want to preserve their track record for their 100% graduation rate and their 100% Pass Rate Clinical Boards. The greater their future alumni's academic performance, the better their university's metrics will be. So, they are curious about your approach to your work style and how sustainable and successful it is. They are trying to assess how diligent you are in your studies and how well you perform on exams. Whatever your approach, take the time to walk the interviewers through your process in as much detail as possible.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"I am a well-organized student and have created a plan that works well for me. When I prepare for a specific exam, I map out the content I need to learn and divide that content over the number of days I have available to prepare. When I create a study calendar, I leave the final three days leading up to the exam to review the entire library of content. I am a big fan of study aids, as I believe they work much better than simply reading and re-reading the materials. Aids such as flashcards are much more helpful to me than highlighting my notes. I also create practice problems and, when possible, will pair up with a fellow student to test each other in written or verbal lightning rounds. My approach has been successful so far, as reflected in my overall GPA."

34. What research did you conduct prior to applying to Midwestern University’s College of Dental Medicine?
What You Need to Know
Your admissions interviewers are curious about your considerations for ensuring a good match. They want to hear what avenues of research you employed (online, telephone, or in-person interviews with faculty and alumni, visiting the campus, scheduling meetings with career counselors, or having a chat with your local dentist).
Blindly sending out batch applications would reveal putting little thought into your approach and performing at the bare-minimum. Instead, go into depth with your process and how it has worked. That will offer them insights into your approach to your work.
Written by Kevin Downey on August 12th, 2022
Answer Example
"I conducted a great deal of research before applying to Midwestern University. I started by interviewing some alumni I know and spoke with a couple of students currently in the dentistry program. Last year I attended the open house here as well. Your school left a very positive impression on me, which is why I chose to apply here."

Sometimes life doesn't go according to plan. If you feel a life event had an impact on the outcome of your grades, carefully consider whether it is worth sharing. An event that was life-altering, such as a natural disaster or a loss, would be considered an acceptable consideration. Whereas breaking up with your high school sweetheart would not reflect well.
