The interviewer is looking for an overview of your education that goes deeper than what is listed onyour resume and cover letter. This is your opportunity to provide them with insights into your character, and what you learned from those unique experiences. Be proud of your accomplishments, big and small. Talk about the points you think the interviewer would find impressive, where relevant to the role you are interviewing for.
While attending post-secondary studies, you likely learned some core skills that would be transferable to any position. Think about what you learned in your highest levels of education and how that knowledge applies (or will apply) to your work. Some of these skills could include:
- Time Management
- Creative Thinking
- Proposal Writing
- Public Speaking
- Presentation Building
- Independent Learning
- Academic Research
- Self-Motivation
Be sure to comb the job description for keywords so that you can match your post-secondary experiences with the skills for which they are seeking!

"I tried on a few different majors when I was in college because of my diverse interests. I worked hard at everything from journalism to marketing and learned that I have great attention to detail and work well with others. My group project for my final in global marketing received high praise not just from my professor but my class. We were even asked to present to the marketing department faculty at the end of the semester!"

Rachelle's Feedback
This is a good start! Next, the interviewer wants to know how your education has prepared you for this job. When outlining your training, be sure to discuss the learning opportunities and experiences most relevant to the position. You will also want to highlight any particular involvement and awards or accolades received. While attending post-secondary studies, you learned core skills that are transferable to any career path. For instance, if you worked on group projects in school, you could share how your education improved your ability to collaborate in challenging environments. Besides the core knowledge gained from your diploma, certificate, or degree, think about the soft skills that you have gained, such as time management or problem-solving.

Upon leaving school I went straight to college full time and studied engineering for two years at _____ advanced level. I passed this course with a merit award, here I learned so much about engineering. This has been something I have had a lifelong passion for, inside and outside of work. from here I applied for an engineering apprenticeship with Ford. I studied here for the first two years, to gain an AVCE. I also learned key skills, improved my own learning and performance, and also working with others. I enjoyed the team-building exercise on my apprenticeship, a week away in Wales. This was great to get away and learned new skills, and gain experience from working with new people.

Cindy's Feedback
