The interviewer is curious about what lengths you will go to act as a force of positive change when you see opportunities to further the aims of your teams. Even more so, they are curious about how skilled a communicator you are and how effectively you offer suggestions to your superiors. As they advertise online, "You can have confidence in an excellent management team whose door is always open and a group that truly focuses on the future. We pride ourselves on being a fair employer, invest in our staff and listen to your opinions. We want to see everyone being innovative and challenging what we do in a constructive way."

"My previous company did not allow for a lot of employee feedback or input, so I focused on ways to improve my performance instead. I took many weekend workshops on various topics such as Excel, Communication in the Workplace, The Art of Negotiations, and some human resource-related courses. My boss did notice an improvement in my performance, so I formally suggested that the company pay for every employee to take one course per year. They agreed and implemented my suggestion. I believe it's easier to 'do' rather than 'tell.' My example of performance improvement was what they needed to make some changes."

"That is a great question! I would have participated more in external company events. Life gets busy, but this is a great opportunity to network with your peers outside the daily grind of business."

"I would go about it by asking why things are being done as they currently are. Then I would continue asking questions and eventually ask them if they had considered the approach I would recommend. If they had considered and tried my suggested approach, then I'll know why they decided against it or why it didn't work and learn something new. If they like my idea and consider implementing it, I have made my suggestion diplomatically and without presumption."

Think about occasions where you kept asking questions, asking what would make your team's jobs easier, improved your skills, or furthered your experience or education. Look at it from the perspective of a learning opportunity or a chance to grow professionally. You cannot change others, but there is always room to develop yourself!
