I am new to working with heavy equipment but I know there are rules and regulations in place to keep everyone and everything safe.

Your response is straightforward and direct, which is great. Can you talk a bit about why you're interested in working around and operating heavy equipment if you've never done so before in the past? What intrigues you about this? Why do you believe you're capable of doing it? Tell the interviewer that you're excited to learn and feel confident that you will be successful in this area. Good job!

Sounds great! Discuss any experience you have working with heavy equipment. If you don't have any, talk about the reasons why you're interested in doing this and think that you'll enjoy it. Mention that you're mechanically inclined (if you are) and talk about any projects or hobbies you've been a part of that allowed you to work with engines, etc. Show your enthusiasm for this aspect of the job.
