"Early in my career, I strived to get to know the banking and thrifts systems from a 360-degree view. I worked hard to partner with my peers in learning how their roles contributed to the whole organizational flow. I set a goal to become head teller within the first five years of working in this industry. I hope to continue that career path with BB&T Bank and am excited for the opportunity to do so."

"A few years ago I set the goal to complete my Bachelor's in Finance while working full time. I achieved this in just four years, through spending a lot of time in online studies, between working as a bank teller. I am very proud of the discipline and dedication I was able to put towards this goal."

When I joined the banking industry as a young teller I always wanted to become a personal banker so during my lunch breaks and after-hours I would always offer my assistance to other departments and in particular to the personal banker so that I was a well-rounded individual. So when opportunities would arise I would be the most attractive internal candidate.

Amanda's Feedback
This is a response you can build on by providing more detail. What did you help the personal banker with? Was he or she aware of your goal and did he or she act as a formal mentor to help you get there? What kind of skills did you obtain or what did you learn by assisting the personal banker? Did you pursue additional training opportunities? In the end, did you achieve your goal of becoming a personal banker? Sharing this additional information gives the interviewer clearer insight into the steps you took to achieve your goal.
Prepare for BB&T's values-based interviews with insights from banking professionals.
