Having a teacher onboard who knows children's literature well and can make suggestions to close gaps in genres and topics is a huge asset to the school community. Many schools are now making a push toward ensuring their libraries contain books that are representative of all walks of life. It is important that all students can see themselves in the stories they read. Share your thoughts on the importance of a well-rounded library and how you would assist the school in building one.

"I would first look closely at inventory and survey the staff as to what they think the library is lacking. Teacher voice is absolutely necessary, and likely, they already have great recommendations for titles. I'd then look to see where there were gaps in terms of genres, authors, topics, and perspectives. I'd then come up with a plan combining teacher input with my findings to add to the school's collection over time."
