I prefer to email first because I am good at writing and I also think it is more convenient for parents especially the ones who work. However, if it is a serious issue I would call them directly. I like to be formal with colleagues and parents to set a professional tone. I am honest with parents in terms of their child, so they can understand what is happening, and we can work together to achieve something positive.

Rachelle's Feedback
Your communication approach with parents, especially depending on the situation, shows great awareness. Good answer!

My communication style is somewhat a mix of formal and informal. I want to be formal at first because I am a professional and it is my professional duty to communicate with them to let them know about how their child is doing, but I also want to be a bit informal because I want to build relationships and trust with parents as well. I also believe in always sharing positive information/compliments about their child first before sharing any negative information as this puts you on their side first and lets them know you care about the success of their child.

Chad's Feedback
Your approach to communication with the parents of your students makes a lot of sense, as does your strategy of leading with something positive. If you have found this communication style to be effective in gaining the trust and support of parents in the past, be sure to talk to the interviewer about what that success looked like. If you can make it clear that this style succeeded in prior roles, you can help the interviewer envision your success in the position you are interviewing for.
