While your passion and excitement for the job are essential, it's always good to have some hard facts to back it up. For instance, saying, "I have heard great things about your company, and I know I would be a great fit for this job" is not very specific. If you find recent news articles or press releases that talk about the company's accomplishments, focus on mentioning how that impressed you.

You want to avoid saying that you want to work for their company because the pay and benefits are better than other companies. If the interviewer feels you are only interested in the monetary aspect of the job and not the company itself, they may pass you over for another candidate.

I have been in the construction industry now for 16 years. I want to explore other aspects of the building industry, and I like to help people. I've read up on Orange Counties goals within the building inspection department, and they align with mine, and I would like to be apart of it. I have recently passed my ICC tests for Residential Structural, Mechanical, and Plumbing. I will be taking my Electrical test within the next two weeks, and I have already signed up for the Commercial (B2) test. This job will start me on a successful path to where I want to be in my career, and it will take advantage of my specific management skills and accurate record keeping.

Good start! Keep in mind this question differs slightly from "Why should we hire you as a building inspector?", and your answer should be more company-focused, rather than self-focused. To strengthen your response, I suggest including a specific statement that relates to the company to demonstrate you have taken the time to research the organization.
