3. Tell me about one of your strengths and one of your weaknesses.
How to Answer
Read the job description thoroughly to understand what soft skills and core areas of strength are required to be successful in the role. Think about your strengths and how those will prove valuable to the hiring manager at Syneos Health. Pick a strength, and be specific in how this strength relates to the role you're applying for. Give concise examples in your answer.
The latter half of the question provides insight into your self-awareness and understanding of where you may need development and if you're open to learning and growing in those areas of deficiency. Give an example that is relevant and professional and would not be essential to the job you've applied for at Syneos Health. Also, explain that you're currently working to improve in this area. Demonstrating that you can identify an area of self-improvement and work on a plan to overcome it reflects your commitment to growth and development.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I'm very team-oriented and love helping others succeed as much as I enjoy being successful myself. I know one of Syneos Health's core values is to "collaborate to deliver solutions." When I read that, I knew I would align with the culture because I place such a high value on this. Even if I'm not in a leadership role, I naturally gravitate toward the encouraging coach/mentor role. I'm also happy to support another team member so they can enjoy time off with their family or loved ones.
However, sometimes I struggle to say no to additional tasks when my plate is full. I'm a team player, love to help others, and like to be seen as someone reliable, so I'm inclined to say yes when others need help. I'm working on being more honest with myself about what I can accomplish in my forty-hour week and limiting how many extra projects or tasks I take on."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I'm an outside-the-box thinker and love creative solutions. I thrive on being given a problem with no apparent solution and being allowed to dive into the issue, understand the ins and outs, what system is currently in place, and, if there is none, build that process from the ground up. I love collaborating with others in these situations but am just as happy to problem solve independently."
As for a weakness, I am a fixer; sometimes, I take the quicker route of doing the task for someone instead of taking the extra time to teach them how to do it themselves. I am more intentional in the tasks I take on and encourage others to self-help where possible and then do a screen share to help them learn the task."

4. What are your thoughts regarding people who become participants in a clinical trial but leave before the trial ends?
How to Answer
Participants can typically quit a clinical trial at any time for any reason, so it's something that you will experience at Syneos Health. The interviewer would like to learn more about your experience with this situation and to understand your views on participants who commit to a clinical trial, then withdraw for one reason or another. Give your thoughts on the topic without being overly negative or critical.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"All participants are given the choice to withdraw during any stage of the process, and that is their right. Without knowing why a participant chooses to leave a trial, it would be difficult to say exactly how I feel about their exiting the trial. Some people become ill or cannot take the effects of the treatment and are forced to leave, while others simply change their minds for personal reasons. At the end of the day, it's my responsibility to inform them of the risk and benefits upfront so they can make an informed decision."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I have experienced participants dropping out of clinical trials before. I typically have a conversation with them to better understand their reason for withdrawing and see how I can support them. Sometimes, they have such adverse reactions to the drug they are unable to continue, which is very understandable. I have seen others whose disease was progressing rapidly, and they chose to withdraw to spend their remaining days with family. If it's something I can help with, for example, lack of transportation, I try to provide resources so they can continue the trial. Ultimately, it's the participant's decision to continue or withdraw, and they have to do what's best for them. Though it can be frustrating, I always remain compassionate, respectful, and professional, whatever decision they make."

5. With regard to salary, Syneos Health tries to be fair to all employees. However, salary is often commensurate with experience. What are your thoughts regarding someone working the same job as you being paid a higher rate due to experience level?
How to Answer
Most employers offer higher salary incentives to get more seasoned employees. This is not meant to devalue a person's knowledge or experience. It is important to note that the interviewer is not saying you will make less than someone with more experience. This question is often asked to see how you respond and how badly you want a position. If an employee is willing to put in the work and earn the pay increase, employers see them as someone worth investing in. This is a good time to ask what the beginning salary is and discuss options that are negotiable, such as benefits and paid time off.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I understand that years of experience are often rewarded with higher earnings. I feel, given the chance to demonstrate my knowledge and skills, you will find that I am capable of doing the job as well as some of the more experienced employees. Having said that, I will not turn down an offer of employment because of a difference in pay based on my present lack of experience. With that in mind, what benefits are available for someone coming on board with your company with my resume?"
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"While I do not doubt that my education and skills are comparable to those of employees at Syneos Health in the same position, I understand and appreciate that Syneos Health likes to acknowledge and reward employees for their years of experience. With that in mind, I am willing to accept a position at a lower beginning rate and prove myself worthy for a higher rate later."

6. What is something that causes you stress at work, and how do you overcome it?
How to Answer
Working at Syneos Health is fast-paced and perhaps stressful at times. The interviewer wants to hear that you can handle the pressure and have experience dealing with stress in the workplace. Describe some techniques you use to manage stress at work and give examples, if possible. Avoid complaining or being negative in your answer.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"We were short-staffed during the quarter, so my workload increased. I received several different projects and assignments, and it felt a little overwhelming and stressful at times. To combat the stress, I first compiled a list of everything I needed to work on the deadlines for each project. By doing this, I was able to prioritize the projects and clearly show my manager my capacity. I used this opportunity to connect with my manager to ensure our priorities aligned and to get feedback on what could be considered a lower priority until we had additional support on the team. I find that taking a deep breath and keeping a positive attitude is also helpful in these situations."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I thrive in a fast-paced environment, and that's the type of setting I currently work in. I find that keeping myself organized week to week and having a solid understanding of my tasks and priorities reduces stress. I take proactive steps to manage stress in the workplace. I set realistic expectations for myself and am not afraid to ask for help when needed. I also make sure I take my meal breaks each day to maintain my energy and give myself a little mental health break before diving back into my responsibilities. I also keep a positive attitude because I've found that if I'm negative or allow negativity around me, I can't handle stress. I'm pretty level-headed, and it takes a lot to upset my balance, so I'm confident I would be successful in another fast-paced environment."

7. How do you build and maintain professional relationships?
How to Answer
Regardless of whether you're behind the scenes working with other employees or more patient or client-facing, you will need to be able to build and maintain relationships to be successful. Syneos Health has been consistently recognized for its strong site relationships, characterized by professionalism, integrity, operational excellence, and dedication to advancing the clinical research profession. Describe your approach and give examples of how you successfully build and maintain relationships with others in the workplace.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I think all relationships start with a positive first impression. I'm a pleasant and outgoing person, so it's easy for me to meet new people and strike up a conversation. I foster trust by being open and honest, especially with a participant or patient. I answer their questions honestly and to the best of my ability, never misleading or persuading anyone to do something they do not want to do. I genuinely care about others and their well-being, so I go out of my way to ask how they are doing and frequently check in with others to see if I can help support them in any way. Effective communication is the key to building and maintaining all relationships with patients, colleagues, or sponsors."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I build relationships by getting to know people and being proactive in helping others. I also go above and beyond to show the person how much I value and appreciate them. I'm responsive, striving to answer calls and emails within 24 hours, and if I feel there is a misunderstanding or an issue to be worked through, I'm not afraid to pick up the phone instead of sending another email. Relationships are important, and so is communication. Tone can be lost in an email, so it's often more beneficial to meet someone in person to discuss things or via phone. I maintain relationships through trust and collaboration. Most of the time, we have common goals, and I use that as a foundation of connection."

Competency
8. Do you have an understanding of what a 'control' or 'control group' is?
How to Answer
A control is the standard by which experimental observations are evaluated. In many clinical trials, one group of patients will be given an experimental drug or treatment, and the control group is given either a standard treatment for the illness or a placebo. If you have worked with clinical trials/observations, you will understand what the 'control' or 'control group' is. If you have not, discuss what you do know. In most cases, an interviewer will know if you already have clinical trial experience and will know where to guide you with a question like this.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"Yes, I understand the importance of a 'control/control group' in trials. I assisted with documentation for a clinical trial when I worked at XYZ. Part of my responsibilities included monitoring the differences in vital signs of the patients who were given a placebo compared to those who were taking the trial drug."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I am familiar with a control/control group. It is my understanding that when a clinical trial is being conducted, some participants are given the trial drug, and the 'control group' is given either the standard treatment or a placebo, but only the person administering the drug knows who is receiving which."

9. To succeed at Syneos Health, you must be able to effectively manage your time. What are some time management techniques you use in the workplace?
How to Answer
Working in a fast-paced environment, such as the biopharmaceutical setting, often means juggling multiple projects and tasks and shifting priorities. Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"My job is fast-paced, and it's not uncommon to have multiple projects with conflicting priority levels. Typically, I plan my week and create time blocks to ensure I have time to do certain tasks without interruption. We discuss the current projects, and I get their feedback and see if other team members can support some of the work."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"We were short-staffed during the quarter, so my workload increased. I received several different projects and assignments, so I compiled a list of everything I needed to work on the deadlines for each project. 1st Answer Example
"Having worked in customer service for the last fifteen years, I've sharpened my communication skills. I'm a good listener, often practicing active listening techniques in everyday conversations. I always maintain a professional tone in verbal conversations, email communication, or instant messenger applications at work."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"My communication style is straightforward. I'm direct in my communication and typically try to communicate important information face to face first, then follow up with an email recapping the conversation and highlights. I'm bilingual, so I can communicate with a diverse group of people."

Competency
11. Do you understand what a 'double-blind' trial is?
How to Answer
Understanding the differences between the different types of clinical trials is essential when working in research at Syneos Health. In a double-blind trial, neither patients nor personnel knows which trial participants are receiving the experimental drug and which are receiving the placebo. Any time you can answer an interviewer's question with confidence and correct knowledge, you increase your chances of being offered employment. Describe your understanding and give a brief description of your experience relating to the topic.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"A 'double-blind' trial is a clinical trial in which neither patients nor the study staff knows which participants are receiving the experimental drug and which are receiving a placebo or standard treatment. The benefit of this type of trial is that it prevents bias when doctors are evaluating patients throughout the trial. In my previous role, I supported a mix of trials, and double-blind trials made up about 25% of the projects I was on."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"Yes, I do understand 'double-blind' trials. In this type of trial, like a controlled trial, one group of participants receives the experimental drug or treatment while another group receives a placebo or standard treatment. The difference is in a 'double-blind,' neither the staff working the trial nor the participants know which group is receiving which treatment."

Competency
12. Do you have experience creating PowerPoints and presenting in front of groups?
How to Answer
You may be expected to plan, prepare, and deliver presentations to clients or other stakeholders at Syneos Health. As most of us know, public speaking can be intimidating for many people. It's okay to be nervous; however, the interviewer wants to see that these nerves do not get in the way of your preparation and ability to communicate well. Speak about your experience with this task.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"In my current role, a large part of my role is creating presentations and delivering those to potential participants. I create my presentations to be visually appealing and engaging, so I'm not just talking to participants the entire time. I'm tech-savvy and comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people, so this is not an area of concern for me. I'm used to presenting to large groups once or twice a week and in groups as large as 50 people."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"The bulk of my presentation experience comes from my time in college, where I prepared a variety of speeches and slide decks. I am a confident public speaker and could present to a group of my peers without any issues. I look forward to gaining even more experience in preparing and delivering professional presentations for sponsors and my peers."

Competency
13. If a trial participant asks you to explain what a placebo is and why it may be used, how would you answer?
How to Answer
Understanding terminology is essential, especially if your role at Syneos Health is to educate participants in a clinical trial. This is another question that the interviewer will use to test your knowledge, experience, communication skills, and ability to educate participants.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I would explain to the participant that a placebo is an inactive pill, liquid, or powder with no treatment value. I would further explain that in a placebo-controlled trial, some portion of the participants will receive a placebo instead of an active drug or experimental treatment and that this is done to assess the experimental treatment's effectiveness and safety versus no treatment at all. I would likely go a step further and explain who in the study would know if the participant received a placebo and who would not."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I will tell the participant that a placebo is a liquid, powder, or pill that has no treatment value and is used in clinical trials to determine the difference between the active drug or experiment compared to no treatment at all. I would also explain the benefits and risks so they understood going into the trial that they may not receive any treatment."

Competency
14. What, if any, types of data analytic tools are you familiar with?
How to Answer
Many data analytic tools could be used at Syneos Health, depending on the stage of use. For example, descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive, and cognitive analytics are different stages in the process. Give the interviewer insight into your experience using these tools and which specifically you have used before. If you do not have experience, be honest, but demonstrate your desire and ability to learn.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"When I worked at IQVIA, we used a proprietary CDAS to harmonize complex and disconnected data, and we used artificial intelligence to develop insights and improve outcomes. I'm also familiar with JMP and Stata platforms. There is such a benefit to being able to analyze trial performance data in real time. Does Syneos Health use any of the tools I mentioned?"
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"While I have not used any tools in the workplace, during my time in college, we did study several data analytic tools. I understand these tools are used to enable researchers to draw meaningful conclusions through data collected from observations, surveys, and experiments. I'm very tech-savvy and have no doubt that whatever tools Syneos Health uses, I will learn and utilize them quickly. I'm eager to learn more and gain that knowledge and experience."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
Competency
15. Are you familiar with what 'expanded access' means?
How to Answer
Expanded access is the term used to describe how manufacturers make new drugs that are being investigated available, under certain circumstances, to treat a patient(s) with a serious disease or condition who cannot participate in a controlled clinical trial. If you have experience working with patients who have been given expanded access, share some details as appropriate. If you don't have personal experience, share your knowledge that would add value at Syneos Health.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"It is my understanding that 'expanded access' is granted under certain circumstances to patients who do not qualify to participate in a clinical trial of a regulatory drug. The drug used in expanded access cannot expose patients to unreasonable risks given the severity of the disease to be treated, and the patient must not have any other satisfactory therapeutic options."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I have some knowledge about 'expanded access,' although I have not worked directly with patients who have been given a drug through expanded access. I know the manufacturer must be willing to make the drug available for expanded access. The primary intent of expanded access is to provide treatment for a patient's disease or condition, rather than to collect data about the study drug."

Competency
16. Are you familiar with the difference between diagnostic trials and screening trials?
How to Answer
Knowing the differences between various types of trials is vital for those working in research at Syneos Health. Because there is such a variety of trials, there is often an opportunity to work on more than one project. Many researchers have stated that they like this option as it gives them the chance to learn more and not experience 'burnout' as quickly. If you know the difference in the trials in this question, elaborate on them briefly. If you are not sure, it's ok to say so and ask the interviewer to differentiate for you.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"Yes, I am familiar with the differences and have experience supporting both. Diagnostic trials are conducted to find better tests or procedures for diagnosing a particular disease or condition. Screening trials test the best way to detect certain diseases or health conditions. In my last role, I participated in many screening trials that were part of a cancer research study."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"Although I am rather new to the research industry, based on the names of the two trials you mentioned, I would think that diagnostic trials look for better ways to diagnose illness while screening trials are aimed at ways to detect disease. I'm interested in learning more about both, particularly through the prevention trials. In college, I did several projects relating to this area of research and study and would love to explore this area."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
Competency
17. What would you tell a patient who asks what they should expect while participating in a clinical trial?
How to Answer
Syneos Health offers early-phase, phase II-III, Phase IIIb-IIIV, and late-phase clinical trial solutions, so you must understand the process of each, no matter your role. Patients need to be well informed before beginning any treatment, whether routine care by a physician or participation in a clinical trial. The interviewer wants to know that you understand the process and can explain it to participants while fielding their questions. Be sure to highlight your communication skills in your answer.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I believe in educating patients regarding any care they receive. For patients participating in trials, it is important to assure them that participants work with a research or clinical trial team, including doctors, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals. Before the trial, the research team will check the health of the participant and review any special instructions for trial participation. As the trial begins and throughout its duration, the research team will administer treatment and monitor the participant regularly to determine the effectiveness and side-effects of the treatment."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"The most important thing is to ensure patients are aware of the trial's objective. For example, if a new drug is being tested, the objective would be that the drug is effective in treating the disease it was designed for with little to no ill effects. Also, assuring the participant that the research team will work closely with them throughout the trial. Many patients are also relieved to know that the research team will work closely with their primary physician throughout the trial."

Competency
18. Syneos Health supports multiple sponsors nationally and internationally, which means employees are often expected to juggle time zones and adhere to the sponsor's tight deadlines. What are some things you do to manage your time efficiently?
How to Answer
Syneos Health is a leading CRO in the industry, working with sponsors globally. This means there may be clients in different time zones that do not align with your core working hours. The interviewer wants to know that you can juggle multiple tasks and accommodate sponsors in different regions. Share some ways you keep yourself organized and structured in your daily tasks.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I have worked with clients internationally and understand the importance of accommodating various schedules. Before beginning any new project, I like to verify the differences in time zones, what specific duties I will be expected to carry out, and the deadline for each. In my calendar, I create a second column with the sponsor's time zone, so I can easily see how to align certain tasks. I typically flex my work schedule or will join a call remotely if I can when needed to meet with the sponsor during their regular business hours."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I will determine which project requires my attention by the number of hours we are behind and then the project size. I am comfortable delegating tasks when needed, but I am also aware that these times will require additional hours from me. I utilize a planner and a task organizer in Microsoft, and each week, I create a dashboard of things I need to get done and the priorities. I frequently block time on my calendar for "distraction-free" periods where I close out my instant messenger to allow focus time to complete tasks."

Competency
19. What are some of the risks associated with being a participant in a clinical trial?
How to Answer
As with any clinical trial, those that Syneos Health conducts may involve some risks to participants. The interviewer wants to understand your knowledge of potential risks with clinical trials and your experience explaining those risks to participants. Give a brief overview of risks associated with clinical trials and any experience you have providing that education to participants.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"There are many risks of clinical trials that participants need to know about to make the best decision for themselves. Some possible risks include known and unknown side effects or exacerbation of other conditions. From another perspective, clinical trials can be time-consuming and require a lot of travel back and forth for the study, lab procedures, and follow-up visits. There is also the possibility that the treatment doesn't work or they are given a placebo. I'm well versed in explaining these risks to participants and fielding their follow-up questions."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"While there are many benefits to participating in clinical trials, there are associated risks that participants need to be aware of. There could be adverse side effects and complications that could cause illness or discomfort. Another risk is that participants may not know that they are receiving a placebo and, as a result, will not have the outcome they had hoped for. Additionally, there could be significant costs associated with participating, and the patient will need to weigh the benefits and risks. I do my best to communicate all risks and to answer any questions they may have about the process. If I cannot assist them, I will find another team member who can support them."

25. Why do you feel that participation in a clinical trial is a positive decision?
How to Answer
Those working for Syneos Health must be passionate about research and clinical trials, so naturally, you must also understand the benefits to those participating in such activities. This will show the interviewer you are knowledgeable about the topic of discussion while providing insight into your views on participation in such clinical trials.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I believe that participants in clinical trials play a key role in the development and discovery of new medicine, procedures, and products that can better the lives of others. Clinical trials contribute to knowledge and progress in treating and preventing diseases, so even if a person doesn't benefit directly, they are still helping others. Most importantly, participants can help others by contributing to medical knowledge and improving public health."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022

28. Both CROs and pharmaceutical companies conduct research and trials. What is an advantage of working with a CRO rather than seeking employment with a large pharmaceutical company?
How to Answer
The interviewer would like to know if you understand the differences between CROs and pharmaceutical companies. They also want to hear your views on working for a CRO like Syneos Health versus a standard pharmaceutical company like Amgen or Roche. Consider the benefits of working for a CRO and select a couple to highlight in your answers. Keep your response positive and avoid speaking negatively about pharmaceutical companies, as many now often outsource some of their work to CROs.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I feel there is more job stability because CROs work with several clients or sponsors. If one project is dropped unexpectedly or the contract ends, a CRO can easily place an employee on a new project with a different sponsor. CROs are, to a certain extent, better shielded from the effects of economic decline than pharmaceutical companies. If one of their clients is forced to go under, they still have other companies to work with."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"In many pharmaceutical companies, only a few drugs are studied. In a CRO, because you work with many clients and sponsors globally, you have more opportunities to work on various drug and device projects across a more diverse range of therapeutic areas. Not only does this give you more experience and opportunities to expand your skills, but it also allows for more growth opportunities. I have also found that CROs offer more resources from an experience and technology perspective, which is a major benefit."

Give a high-level overview of your roles and responsibilities and the areas of study you're familiar with (vaccines, medications, etc.).
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I have been a clinical research coordinator for about ten years and have been assigned to several cancer-related clinical trials ranging in size from 10 participants to 100 participants. As a coordinator, my roles have included overseeing recruitment for studies, ensuring ethical research standards are followed throughout the study, and administering exit questionnaires to participants. As a coordinator, I have worked with a diverse group of professionals on clinical trials and love being a part of such a collaborative and robust team."

In my five years at my current company, I have recruited and enrolled over 500 participants for various vaccine trials. Additionally, it was my responsibility to communicate with participants throughout the study and keep meticulous notes and documentation throughout. 1st Answer Example
"My current company partnered with ACRP to provide a certificate called "Project Management for Clinical Research Professionals." 2nd Answer Example
"I'm currently in the process of completing the DIA Project Management Certificate. It's been a great course that covers conflict management, budget planning, and adverse event reporting. It's a 30-hour program that covers developing project plans related to clinical trials from start to finish."

31. Do you have experience working with any other CROs?

"While I have never worked for a CRO, I'm very familiar with what they do and how they operate. My background is in sales, with biopharmaceutical experience at Roche and Amgen. I have several years of experience in sales, and I think many of my skills acquired in that setting will be transferable to Syneos Health as a CRO. I also have a very robust network within the industry that would be valuable to Syneos Health."

"In my last position, I was responsible for several sales reports weekly and monthly. I was always honest and took pride in providing 100% accurate reports. We set very ambitious sales goals, and the team often fell short. I never falsified any information or inflated numbers to fit a certain narrative. I'm always accountable for the reports I submit and hold my staff to the highest standards of integrity when reporting up the chain."

2nd Answer Example
"I once had a manager who would berate other employees, and, on several occasions, I witnessed them cursing and yelling at my coworkers. It was a tough situation because normally, I would confront the person I believed was acting inappropriately. However, I was afraid of retaliation. It just so happened that our company's annual code of conduct training came out, and it listed specific steps for reporting this type of behavior. I was able to report the incidents to the corporate employee line anonymously, which allowed me to speak up without fear of my personal information being shared and my manager retaliating against me. After investigating the matter, the company took swift action, and I felt assured that I did the right thing by speaking up for others."

33. Can you think of a time you had a disagreement with a boss or co-worker, and if so, how was it resolved?
How to Answer
Working in clinical research and biotech and within an organization as large as Syneos Health, you will likely interact with several people daily, including colleagues, senior leaders, patients, their families, and public vendors. Possessing the skills to handle difficult situations and people in the workplace is essential. Think about a time you had a challenging coworker or patient and what made it difficult. Describe the situation and how you handled it. Avoid speaking negatively about a former employer or colleague when answering.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"Although I consider myself pretty easygoing, I am also very passionate about my patients and the care that they receive. I have been aware of disagreements between other co-workers, but I like to think of myself as more of a peacekeeper. I feel like professional people should be able to discuss things logically and come to an agreement that is satisfactory for everyone involved."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I think the most common disagreement between myself and others has involved our feelings about how healthcare should be carried out. However, I have learned, as have most of the people I have worked with, that while our opinions are important, plans of care are designated by strict guidelines and with the input of everyone on the care team and the patient. Learning to respect those guidelines and patient wishes usually resolves issues that arise."

34. How would you respond if a participant or sponsor asked you a question you didn't know the answer to?
How to Answer
This is a very complex industry, so you will likely encounter a scenario where you're asked a question you don't know the answer to. The interviewer wants to discover more about how you would react when you lack the knowledge necessary to answer a question. Demonstrate to the interviewer that you can acknowledge when you don't know something instead of making it up on the fly and commit to finding that answer and following up with the person timely. Give an example of how you self-help and track down information or how you've found the appropriate person to ask. Telling the person, "I don't know," or "that's not my department," is never appropriate, and the interviewer wants to learn more about your customer service skills and problem-solving approach.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"As a newer employee, I would have a lot to learn, so I'm sure I will run into a situation where I cannot immediately answer a participant or sponsor's question. I would be honest with the person and let them know I would research the answer and get back to them as quickly as possible. I would never make up an answer and would try to self-help with my available resources, and if I could not locate the answer timely, I would reach out to a colleague or manager to assist."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"The participant experience is always my top priority, so if they asked a question to which I didn't know the answer, I would reassure them that I would find the answer as quickly as possible. If I knew it would take me some time to track down the answer, I would be transparent with them and give them a realistic time frame to expect a response or answer. Follow-up is also important to me, and if I committed to finding an answer and getting back to them, I would ensure that I did."

35. If a patient wants to participate in a clinical trial but wants the physician conducting the experiment to provide all of their care during the time the trial is being conducted, what would be the most appropriate advice?
How to Answer
Most clinical trials provide short-term treatments for a designated illness or condition but do not provide extended or complete primary health care. In addition, by having the health care provider work with the research team, the participant can ensure that other medications or treatments will not conflict with the protocol. The interviewer at Syneos Health is asking how you would relate directly with a patient making this request.
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I understand that many patients prefer not to see multiple physicians. However, it is important for patients participating in clinical trials to be educated about the role of the staff conducting the trial. For example, the medication or therapy used for a clinical trial usually focuses on a specific illness/disease. It is important for patients to follow up and have continued care with their primary physician. Additionally, providers conducting clinical trials find it beneficial to communicate with the primary physician to work together for the best outcome for the patient."
Written by Jaymie Payne on December 30th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I have always been taught that patients are advised to continue regular follow-ups and care for non-trial related medical issues with their primary care provider. Also, the research teams I have been a part of have always made it a priority to collaborate with the primary physician. First of all, it is a professional courtesy. Further, the open line of communication allows the healthcare team and patient to work together more effectively."
