HireVue advertises they "actively work to prevent the introduction or propagation of bias against any group or individual" and claim their assessments focus on skills and competencies, not age, race, or gender. HireVue argues that "unstructured interviews create opportunities for unconscious bias and poor hiring decisions," and "structured interviews ensure consistent talent assessment for fairer hiring. We also continue to advance our abilities to monitor, detect, and mitigate bias. We strive to build teams from diverse backgrounds with diverse knowledge, experiences, and perspectives to best represent the people our systems serve." Yet it is important to remember that as much as HireVue claims to mitigate bias while screening and assessing candidates, once the materials are passed on, the decision will ultimately fall upon the hiring authority.
You'll want to come across as comfortable with this question, and culturally competent not only through your body language but also through your choice of words. Conveying cultural competence requires interest, openness, and curiosity. Nonverbal indicators for these emotions are leaning in, tilting your head as you speak, smiling, and making eye contact. Signs of discomfort and avoidance could be interpreted as indicators of negative bias and antipathy. Such nonverbal cues include decreased positivity, less eye contact and more gaze aversion, fewer smiles, greater interpersonal distance, and increased blinking. Consider these points when formulating your answer.

In those work environments that lacked diversity, I have encouraged my colleagues to branch out, offering the statistics of what they would have to gain from enhancing their diversity and ESG goals. Only when every voice is heard can a company be sure they are taking the best path forward. Only when every employee feels valued and respected can you be sure you are performing at your best."
