For three decades, Gilead Sciences has pursued and achieved many medical breakthroughs, and that is due in part to the hard work that their team has put forth. Knowing that you will be taking on a role with many responsibilities, your interviewer wants to hear you discuss your ability to prioritize your work efficiently.

"Throughout my schooling, I have found that managing competing priorities successfully came down to being organized and on track with all work and deadlines. My method for staying organized was utilizing an online calendar and a written task list. I would start every day by writing down my priorities for the day, checking things off my list, and adding things that came up. Focusing on long-term project work was also important as a college student, so ensuring I was breaking my projects down into smaller goals and deadlines was important. I'm glad these skills will translate well to this role at Gilead Sciences."

"I will determine which project requires my attention by the number of hours we are behind and then the project size. I am comfortable delegating tasks when needed, but I am also aware that these times will require additional hours. Never have I under-delivered on a deadline. On top of research projects and new product developments, day-to-day tasks can never be overlooked. I find that setting aside time on my calendar for daily tasks, project work, and working through email is important to my success."

Talking about the tools and resources you use to keep you on track in your work will go a long way with the team at Gilead Sciences. Whether you use written notes, an online calendar, or a project management tool, showing you have a proven method is important. From there, it's important to discuss your first-hand experience managing a large and diverse workload that was full of day-to-day tasks and large-scale projects. As you do this, remember that your interviewer will be keying on the success you found in your methods for prioritizing your work.
