Everybody makes mistakes and it is best to pick a project where the missed deadline wasn't fatal and you were able to recover and learn from your mistake.

"We had a new leader start recently. To get her up to speed, she asked for a number of different reports in a 2 day turn around time. She needed them for an executive meeting she was going to. One of the reports was very manual and with my other responsibilities, I just wasn't able to get it done in time. I went to her office and told her that I could have this complete tomorrow, but I wasn't able to finish it for her meeting this morning. She asked what I was working on and I explained my competing priority. She recommended that I come check with her to get help prioritizing in the future. I learned a big lesson that day about using your leader as an advocate for you. I should have come to her first. I've kept this in mind in other scenarios when I've had competing deadlines."

There was a competing project on training which had to be completed and at the same time a marketing strategy for the next six months that we needed to complete. Unfortunately, I could not complete the marketing strategy plan on time. I approached my supervisor and mentioned it to him. I told him what else I was working on at that time and that I was involved with a training program. He recommended that I check with him to get help prioritizing in the future.

Rachelle's Feedback
This example is good; however, I would recommend finishing up with a comment on what you did to improve your prioritization skills after receiving the feedback.
"A few months ago, there was a competing project which was due the same time as a marketing strategy. Unfortunately, I could not complete the marketing strategy plan on time. I approached my supervisor and told him the situation, what I was working on, and my level of involvement in the projects. He recommended that I check in with him next time that happened, to get help with prioritization. To get ahead of the game, I took a time-management course online which gave me new skills related to project management and prioritization. I feel much more prepared for tight deadlines now."
