"I read books and do some translation outside of work. I love to relax in reading since I can travel to another world and have different experiences. Translating is one of my hobbies. It is relaxing and gives me some brainstorming when I have some spare time. Also, I love to do some sports after work. Running and yoga are both my favorite. If there is time, I choose to do some beautiful ballet at home. Doing sports is always a great way for me to relax."
Rachelle's Answer
It sounds as though you are very well-rounded in your personal life, which will show positively in your professional life. Great answer!

At Dyson Ltd. we seek to hire those who want a long-term fit. What is your long-range career objective?
Onboarding new employees is a time consuming and costly endeavor so the interviewer wants to make sure that this role will be a long-term fit for you. Be open with the interviewer about your dreams within Dyson Ltd., on a long-term basis. Share what promotions you hope to eventually receive and discuss what you wish to learn from being a part of their organization. The key to answering this question is to express to the interviewer that you plan to be employed by the company for many years to come.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"I have some pretty lofty career goals. I want to make a big impact within an industry, to push technology and press for always bigger, better ideas. After researching Dyson Ltd. and learning more about this position, I feel that this role fits beautifully with my future aspirations. The company shares the kind of growth mindset and ambitious passion for success that I value personally."
Michelle's Answer #2
"This particular position is a goal that I have set my sites on for quite some time. I believe it is the next step in a long and fulfilling career in the technology/engineering industry. The industry leadership that Dyson offers, as well as its culture of ambition and reinvention, are key for me, and I feel confident I will gain skills in this role that will make me successful."
3.
Dyson Ltd. has many competitors in the area. Are you currently interviewing with any of them? If you were offered multiple positions, why would you choose us?
The interviewer would like to know if you are currently meeting with any of their competitors to discuss open positions. If you were to receive multiple offers that were similar, why would you choose Dyson Ltd.? Assure the interviewer that you are genuinely interested in joining them, and not just looking for any job to fill your time at the moment.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"I have sent out only a few resumes, and the majority of them are within this industry. With that said, my first choice would be with Dyson Ltd. because you are, quite simply, the best in your industry. You're set apart by your unusual and radical products, along with your unique and challenging culture. I understand that Dyson may not be an easy place to work, but I do believe the challenges it presents are the type that will help me grow as an innovator and an engineering leader."
Michelle's Answer #2
"You are the only company with which I am currently interviewing. I have been very selective with my job applications, and I believe Dyson is the best choice for me in terms of aligning with my own passions and goals. I thrive on challenge and am excited by change, so I look forward to joining a group of like-minded individuals centered on radically solving customer problems through top-notch, creative engineering and technology."
4.
As a manager, what is your greatest weakness?
Everyone has his/her weaknesses, and that is OK. Talk to the hiring manager about what you feel you could work on the most, and what you are doing about it. Avoid discussing a weakness that could be detrimental to you securing the position.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"As a manager, I feel that my greatest weakness is in separating employees as quickly as possible when they begin to show signs that they are not going to work out. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and have been known to continue trying to nurture people when they really are overdue for termination. I have taken a couple of management training classes focusing on this area, and I'm also working with an industry mentor; I feel I'm improving in being able to objectively approach separating employees who aren't a good fit."
Michelle's Answer #2
"Some feedback that I have received in my current role is that I could improve my technical skills when it comes to Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. I have all the basics covered, but when it comes to more complicated formulas or visualization of data, I don't have much experience. To remedy this, I have enrolled in a course for next month, and my goal is to come out of that experience as a more intermediate user."
5.
Tell me about a time when you received criticism from your manager. How did you react to that criticism? How did you make improvements based on that criticism?
When you are thinking about examples of criticism, it's best to show that you want to grow as an employee and that you can handle constructive criticism because it helps you learn and improve the quality of your work.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"Not long after beginning my current role, I was charged with creating a presentation for an important event. After my manager reviewed my work, he felt that some of the slides required additional copy, and he had different design concepts in mind. He had a background in graphic design, and since I do not, I listened to his ideas and incorporated them. I also appreciated the fact that he was clear and specific in the revisions he expected. In the end, I felt the presentation was much improved, since then I have tried to include those same design concepts."
Michelle's Answer #2
"My current manager often double checks to ensure that I am following protocol at all times. I understand that she values thoroughness and I welcome this kind of review because I am very detail-oriented myself. I believe that our customers deserve that level of attention and care, and I feel fortunate and accomplished that she rarely has recommendations for how to improve my work."
6.
Do you have experience working with a point of sale (POS) system and inventory management software?
Give the interviewer a brief overview of the POS and Inventory Management software and systems that you have used in the past. You can also list any additional programs that you are well versed in.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"I am an intermediate user in Microsoft Dynamics and Retail Pro. In addition to these POS systems, I have 3 years' experience in Paragon ERP. I feel confident that I can adapt to any POS system Dyson has in place in order to deliver my best work."
Michelle's Answer #2
"I have not worked directly with a point of sale system; however, I am very savvy when it comes to technical systems, and I believe I exemplify the passion, bold spirit and willingness to innovate that characterizes the Dyson brand. I feel sure I can learn any POS system Dyson has in place very quickly."
7.
Do you have experience in managing online sales?
For most industries, online sales and marketing have become incredibly important. Talk to the interviewer about your experience and understanding when it comes to social media and online marketing efforts. Has there ever been a time that your online sales efforts have made a significant impact on your employer?

Rachelle's Answer #1
"Yes, absolutely - a couple of years ago I worked as a sales manager for a local furniture store. Our sales were slower than usual, so I started an Instagram account for the store where we would feature particular pieces. We garnered quite a strong following, and we did see an increase in walk-in traffic over time. I am also well versed in managing web-based sales as my current employer has a strong e-commerce presence."
Michelle's Answer #2
"I fully respect the fact that online sales are a key connection between Dyson and the fast-paced world of consumer and business sales. As such, those who drive online sales need to be tech-savvy, knowledgeable and incredibly responsive. Given my experience running both social media marketing and online sales initiatives in my current position, I feel confident I could step into the online sales team seamlessly and manage the process consistently with Dyson's values."
8.
What part of this career brings you the most stress?
Stress can often be a regular part of the day to day work experience. Talk to the interviewer about which areas of your career are the most stressful. Ensure that your answer does not include a factor that would make you appear unfit for the position. (IE: a bus driver should not find driving to be the most stressful part of the job).

Rachelle's Answer #1
"The part of my career that brings me the most stress is when the schedule is running behind for no good reason other than lack of hustle on my team's part. I like to be on time with our schedule to ensure that our clients are assisted properly."
Michelle's Answer #2
"I find that the primary stressor in my current position is the fact that my team is not as reliable as I would like. For this reason, I am seeking a new opportunity, within a professional environment, with a team who values their jobs as much as I do."
9.
How do you believe you will complement our department, if you were hired?
If awarded the position, what would you bring to the department or organization? Assure the interviewer that you are the right fit for this position.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"If hired, I feel that I would complement Dyson's organization because I am a fast learner and I'm passionate about using technology to meet customers' day-to-day needs in way previously unimagined. I'm intellectually curious and willing to persevere through as many iterations as it takes to find a solution. I'm fully committed to the 'Dyson way.'"
Michelle's Answer #2
"If hired, I will bring to life the Dyson mindset of 'wrong thinking' for problem-solving. I love everything about Dyson's approach to being radical and forward-thinking in its product development and problem-solving. I already bring with me a substantial client portfolio, which can make an immediate business impact, and I also exemplify the tenacious and bold spirit for which Dyson is so powerfully known."
10.
What are your salary expectations?
The best way to discuss your salary expectations is to use your current earnings as an example. Be open, and honest. Transparency is the best choice when salary based questions arise.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"Currently, I earn a base salary of $45,000 per year plus a potential 20% annual bonus. Last year my earnings were $52,000, and I would like to stay in the same range or gain a slight increase. According to my research, this seems consistent with the market."
Michelle's Answer #2
"I would like to earn slightly above where I am now. Currently, I make $25/hour plus benefits and a 10% commission on all sales. My target income for the coming year is $65,000. If that is out-of-range for this position, I would hope we could discuss alternative benefits and/or a path to reach that salary goal."
11.
How can we motivate you on the job?
Your motivation may be that the idea of success and achievement drives you. Perhaps you are working toward career advancement. Take some time to think about what truly motivates you.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"I believe that, for the most part, I am intrinsically motivated. However, I am often encouraged by verbal recognition of my impact, along with compensation-based rewards. This could be a competition for a gift card or a contest where I can earn a bigger holiday party budget for my team. My competitive side keeps me motivated as well, so I love being challenged by high performers around me."
Michelle's Answer #2
"In such a competitive industry, I want to work for the best and with the best. I am motivated by a company that sets high performance standards, and by colleagues who work hard to meet them. I love being challenged by my peers to deliver my very best work."
12.
Do you have reliable transportation?
Even if you're not expected to drive for the job, you will need to have some form of reliable transportation. If you take the bus or ride a bike, that works too! Share that you have the means to get to work consistently and on time.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"I do have reliable transportation. My vehicle is well maintained, and I am comfortable with the amount of travel required to get to your office every day."
Michelle's Answer #2
"I take public transit; however, I find it to be very reliable. I was late to work only once last year, and that was due to a snowstorm, which stalled all of our employees' commutes - including those with personal vehicles. Rest assured, I am reliable and will always come to work on time."
13.
At Dyson Ltd., we value accuracy and a job well done. How do you double check or verify your work?
Double checking and proofreading are essential parts of a job well done. Assure the interviewer that you are diligent when it comes to submitting good, clean, work.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"Spelling and grammatical errors are a pet peeve of mine. I triple check my work if at all possible! In addition, I try to print out important documents for editing rather than reading them on-screen. When time allows, I try also to read through a document backwards so that I'm not missing any typos. I feel that it is essential to submit error-free work."
Michelle's Answer #2
"This kind of accuracy is important to me as well - it's my professional reputation that is shaped every time I submit something in writing. I concentrate especially on formal reports and presentations, and I do ask other people to review important letters or emails before sending them."
Anonymous Answer
"Yes, I also believe accuracy is vital for an employee and a company. First of all, it is my habit to double-check all the work I have to complete. Also, I always ask for help from experienced colleagues when I am in ambiguity."
Rachelle's Answer
These are great habits to form in the workplace, and the interviewer should appreciate that you will ask for help when needed.

14.
At Dyson Ltd., we greatly value teamwork. Tell me about a contribution you made to the last team you worked on.
It is essential to show the interviewer that you are a team player. Talk about a time that you were recently expected to achieve a goal in a team setting. How did you go over and above to ensure that your contribution was felt?

Rachelle's Answer #1
"You're absolutely right - effective teamwork is an essential part of a company's success. Last month our company asked upper management to complete a full inventory audit. There were 4 of us total, and so we broke the audit requirements into shifts, which had to take place when the warehouse was closed. In the end, there was one additional shift that nobody wanted to take. I volunteered to do that shift to show my dedication to my job and my co-workers. The gesture was appreciated, and the audit was completed on time."
Michelle's Answer #2
"The most recent team-based project that I was a part of was while I was earning my business degree. I worked on a final project with four others, and I found myself stepping into a leadership role where I delegated tasks and helped the team maintain a good pace. In the end, we hit our deadline and received a top grade."
15.
The environment is fast-paced and challenging at Dyson Ltd. How do you determine priorities when you have multiple projects due?
When you feel torn between multiple projects or tasks, how do you decide which one needs your attention the most? Assure the interviewer that you can be diligent when it comes to assessing your priorities.

Rachelle's Answer #1
"First and foremost, I will prioritize projects that most closely align with the company's strategic goals and have the highest potential to affect the company's bottom line. In addition, I often determine which projects require my attention by the number of hours we are behind and then the project size. I am comfortable delegating tasks when needed, but I am also aware that these times will require an additional commitment of hours from me. Never have I under delivered on a deadline."
Michelle's Answer #2
"Assuming that the projects have different stakeholders, I interview each to determine the value of increased productivity, morale or revenue, decreased costs, and the overall impact."
Anonymous Answer
"First of all, I will list the goal of each project. I will see which one will have the most influence on the company's development and decide to finish it first. Secondly, I will list all the projects which must be completed by cooperation. I don't want to be the one who blocks the progress, so I will finish my part first and let my colleagues do their parts. It is the best way to save time."
Rachelle's Answer
You sound very organized and mindful of the needs of your company and co-workers. Fantastic answer.
