Question 32 of 35

As a manager, what is your greatest weakness?

"As a manager, I feel that my greatest weakness is separating employees as quickly as possible when they begin to show signs that they are not going to work out. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and have been known to continue trying to nurture people when they are overdue for termination. I have taken management training classes focusing on this area, and I'm also working with an industry mentor; I feel I'm improving in objectively approaching separating employees who aren't a good fit."

      What You Need to Know

This may feel like a problematic question to navigate. The goal of the question is to test how you overcome challenging situations. Therefore, the trick to mastering this question is by framing your self-perceived weakness as an asset in its own right. Share a weakness, like being a perfectionist in the past, caused you to miss deadlines, even though the work was in perfect shape to be submitted on time. Recognizing this weakness as a growth opportunity reveals that you are already proactively working on it can speak well to your merits.

      2nd Answer Example

"Some feedback I received in my current role is that I could improve my technical skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. I have all the basics covered, but when it comes to more complicated formulas or visualization of data, I don't have much experience. To remedy this, I have enrolled in a course for next month, and my goal is to come out of that experience as a more intermediate user."
