Tutoring is not always working with long-time students and watching them develop over time. Often, you have to think on your feet when new students show up to you and dive right in to make the most of their time. Share some tried and true strategies you utilize to help students understand the material, break it down, see a different perspective, and cater to their needs. Be specific about a few things that have worked for you when you have had to think on your feet and utilize your time well.

"When I am with a new student with little time to prepare for their needs, I generally pull from my resources for extra practice and to help break down the material. Sometimes that means looking through my personal computer drive for practice problems or pulling up trusty videos to help explain a concept. I have a toolbox of resources that I love in the subject I feel most confident in, and many of my tools have helped students in the past gain access to the content. I also provide a lot of examples that the student can keep to reference after our session. I am good at thinking on my feet and being creative about how to convey new learning."
