In the rail transport industry, any situation can change on a dime. Your interviewer wants to know how adaptable you are to changing priorities, and that you are resourceful and can switch to or innovate a 'Plan B'. Discuss your ability and experience level in this regard. It's vital for the interviewer to know that you can adapt any plan whenever the need arises.

"Any transport job can be unpredictable and requires a great amount of adaptability. Recently we had a huge recall of a hazardous product that we were transporting. Our customer was trying to stop the shipment; however, we were unable to turn the shipment around as we had other clients who needed their delivery on time. We made plans with the client for a shipment return, which changed my work schedule significantly; however, that's to be expected in this industry. I always plan for schedule changes."

"Nothing is guaranteed to go smoothly in the rail transport industry; that is one thing I know for sure. I always create 'what-ifs' because I know that plans change quickly, especially where there are multiple decision-makers and safety variables between myself and the delivery. Plan B is always ready to go."

While dispatching, I am continually monitoring our orders and our delivery trucks. Often I would get customer calls trying to sneak in a load somewhere. I had to be ready to adapt and find a truck to make sure all of our customers were served.

This sounds like a lot of moving parts and ongoing change. Good answer - it seems you adapt very well to changing situations.

It's always helpful to be mindful of potential issues that could go wrong so you can think ahead of time of a plan in case that does happen. If you aren't sure of what you would do in a specific situation just ask because if it doesn't happen today, it might happen another day. Always look to be learning and always be aware.

You're off to a great start! I suggest taking the general 'you' wording and pivot to 'I/me/my' wording so that your answer feels more personal and attached. I've offered a revision for you below.
"I find it helpful to be mindful of potential issues that could go wrong. This way, I can think of a plan ahead of time if a change or unexpected scenario happens. If I am not sure of what I would do in a specific situation, I will ask my supervisor to help me craft an effective action plan. Just because an unexpected situation doesn't happen today, it might happen another day, so I always work hard to be aware of alternate scenarios."
