  • 3. What type of manager brings out the best in you?

      How to Answer

Every manager is different, and employees work best with different management styles. Consider your previous managers, their management styles, and how you worked with them. If you are new to the workforce, you might respond best to a coaching manager who encourages and educates their staff. Or perhaps you work best with a hands-off manager who delegates and schedules rather than working closely with their staff. Before your interview, familiarize yourself with the various types of management styles and identify the one you respond best to. Be honest. Interviewers ask this question to determine if the candidate will fit their environment and will often try to pair new employees with compatible managers.

      2nd Answer Example

"I am still fairly new to the workforce, so I think I would work best with a manager who acts like a coach. I'd like to work under someone who can teach me the job while encouraging me to do my best. That said, I also hope that, once I learn the job well enough to do it on my own, my manager allows me to work under less supervision so that I am free to shine on my own."
