Essentially, the interviewers are asking, 'Why should we hire you?' When it comes to this hiring decision, the school will choose the person that they believe will help them to solve a specific concern. By clearly discussing how you will address the immediate and long-term needs of the school, you are positioning yourself as the top Preschool Director of choice.
Talk to the interviewers about what sets you apart, and how it will directly benefit them, should you be hired. Include hard skills and soft skills when delivering your response. Hard skills should include the specific knowledge you gained through your related training and education. Soft skills should consist of personal and professional traits, such as emotional intelligence and sociability.

"I understand your school is seeking a Preschool Director with a proven ability to lead a team of seasoned early childhood educators in a diverse student body and well-established public school environment. You seek a director who can properly train, motivate, and encourage new educators while providing the right tools to help more experienced teachers grow and perform at their peak ability. My experience, and past results, align very well with this need. I am an experienced Preschool Director, having trained over 50 educators in early childhood development. My current faculty's retention rate is the highest in the 30-year history of the school. Over 80% of my team members have exceeded our state's assessments, and over 90% of our student body rank as on-track when assessed for literacy and various cognitive skills. I am a passionate educator and mentor with a hands-on approach to child education. I would love to bring these skills and traits to your preschool."

______ school has been fortunate enough to have had a dedicated, motivated, loving preschool director for the past twenty years. I have been fortunate enough to witness the _____'s leadership first hand as a teacher in the school. I have experienced the impact _______ has had on our school community- guiding the teachers, developing faith for the children at a young age through the weekly chapel, and connecting with parents, the church, and the community to strengthen the culture of our school. With this in mind, I know I would be an excellent leader for your school. I have a strong relationship with the current teaching staff and the community. I have strong Christian values and experience teaching prayer and faith to children. I am a motivated, self-driven individual who reflects on my practices and always looks for ways to improve my performance. When given a challenge I will take the time and search for the resources needed to tackle the problem and move forward. I strongly believe, if given the opportunity to direct your school, I would collaborate with you, the church community and parents to maintain and improve our school community.

Chad's Feedback
Good start! Your experience and existing relationships with the staff and community are excellent points to highlight for the interviewer, and will help set you apart from other candidates. You also do well to align your values with the school, and include some soft skills in your response. To further strengthen your answer, ensure you also include hard skills (specific knowledge gained through related training and education). Also, consider discussing how you will meet the immediate and long-term needs of the school. Is there a specific issue that you are able to solve?
