The interviewer wants to know how well you work with others and how you operate in a team setting. Few jobs can be done in isolation. This means that a person in any role, from entry-level to management-level, needs to be able to collaborate productively with others.
"In my previous internship, I worked with three other interns and one lead engineer on a project. The lead engineer explained the project and informed us that he would be available for technical assistance if needed. Although he was available, he required us to work as a team to distribute the work fairly and ask each other for help, which in turn allowed us to communicate more effectively. The team was able to progress quickly and efficiently. During our weekly progress meetings with the lead engineer, we were always ahead of the game! At the end of the project, our team presented our work to a few of our supervisors as well as the client. Everyone was impressed by our hard work."
