The interviewer wants to know that you have researched the company and have specific thoughts about how your expertise in online marketing will benefit them. While you want to make it clear that you are well-informed about the company and its industry, you can keep your answer more broad and simply outline the steps you would take to create an online marketing strategy for the company.
"To create an effective online marketing strategy for your company, I would perform several steps. To start, I would investigate how your company is positioned from a marketing standpoint; what problems do your products solve for customers, and do your marketing messages convey this? I would then analyze your competitors and determine the company's strengths and weaknesses in comparison to its competitors. I would take a look at the marketing methods that the company currently uses and how well they are working. At the end of all this investigative research, I would come up with an online strategy that would increase traffic to your website and increase conversions."
