How to Answer
Focus on sharing a little bit about your past academic and work experience, your present circumstances, and your future goals. Share a brief statement that highlights your personal and professional accomplishments and passions. In the end, you may want to add a bit of personal information, like a hobby or how you spend your free time, to highlight your humanity and connect with the interviewer.

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
A great place to start is to understand the reasoning behind the question. Primarily, the interviewer will use this question as an icebreaker. However, to the candidate, it feels like being put in the hot seat. In response, many candidates accidentally go too in-depth into their personal lives. Other candidates freeze up and give an answer that is far too brief.

"I earned my degree in secondary education from XYZ University. While there, I took every opportunity to be in a classroom setting, often volunteering my time to help at the local middle and high schools. After graduation, I was hired at the local high school and worked there for five years. I loved that collaboration and development were always encouraged. Now, I am looking to take the next step in my career and gain experience elsewhere. I am excited for the opportunity to work at SABIS and continue to impact the lives of students. In my free time, I enjoy training for different races and spending time with my family outdoors."
