In my years working alongside hiring managers in recruitment efforts ranging from entry-level positions to top-level management, I've seen most, if not all, ask candidates about their leadership skills. Remember that this is regardless of the job title and whether or not the position has any direct reports. At Kimberly-Clark, their team-based environment and sense of accountability in all that they do require natural leaders in any role.
"In my current position, I lead our company social committee. I love having the opportunity to encourage employee engagement while being a positive influence on the workplace culture. I am a natural leader because I start by leading by example. As a leader, I make myself available to others who need mentorship, assistance adjusting to their role, or a listening ear when they've had a tough day. I am confident in the leadership abilities I would bring to your team at Kimberly-Clark."
"I see myself as a leader, and my colleagues throughout my career would attest to that. I have managed a team in two prior roles. I believe that leadership does not always equate to management. Leadership is more of a mindset than a title or specific position. I lead at all times by providing the best model, enthusiasm, and work ethic for the organization. I am open to new ideas and love to tackle a new project, which, to me, embodies leadership."

Talk openly about how you would describe your leadership skills and abilities. If you've held formal leadership roles during your career, elaborate on how you effectively led and motivated others. If you don't have experience in a direct leadership position, perhaps you have led a club at work, been a coach for a youth sports team, or were on the advisory board for a non-profit organization. Some key things to highlight are your communication skills and ability to bring out the best in others.

Marcie's Feedback
The interviewer will be happy to hear that you consider yourself a leader. What leadership qualities do you possess? Are you decisive, confident, inspiring, empathetic, passionate, and a strong communicator? Do you effectively delegate? Are you full of integrity? Are you a creative problem solver? If so, let the interviewer know. Also, include an example or two of times when you successfully led a team. Use the STAR method to detail the situation, task, action, and result. Good job!
