Question 16 of 40

Tell me about a time you had to adapt to major changes in the workplace.

"Because of the pandemic, my current workplace reduced costs by merging two departments and redefining their roles in the company structure, which resulted in a 20% staff cut. This increased the workload for the remaining team members, a tough moment to adapt to. I didn't lose my job, and I supported our leadership's decision. I had faith they wouldn't have taken this course of action unless it was necessary. So, I focused my energy on helping the rest of our teams adjust. Since this has been my approach whenever an unpopular company policy is implemented. I jump right in with support, active listening, and help any way I can."

      What You Need to Know

This question aims to assess how adaptable you are, how you perceive and approach changes in the workplace, and whether you ask questions, are self-guided in your work, and are reliable. Too often, an employee might read too deeply into something like rebranding and misconstrue that as a signal for a restructure or mass layoffs. So, your interviewer is gauging whether you support the company's big-picture goals or vision or if you misinterpret them, sow dissent, are distrustful of your employers, and have issues with those in positions of authority.
