The candidate should discuss why they feel their opinion in a column is warranted and what credentials they have to make people trust them. Whether they have formal education in a topic, have past professional experience, or just have proved their knowledge in a subject over time, they should have a good explanation of their experience in a given subject and why people will take them seriously.
