Do you find it difficult to handle blood and other bodily fluids?

"I have never been a queasy individual, and I fully understand the types of cases that I will see in my career as a PA. I work part-time at our local drop-in shelter and have seen many situations involving blood. Rather than think about the gore, I think about the fact that it's a human being who needs my help. What You Need to Know

It's not uncommon for some medical students to grow queasy or feel faint at the sight of blood or a traumatic injury. Some medical students experience a vasovagal response in such situations or experience a fear of transmissible diseases, such as HIV. The concern here is whether you can manage your response with professionalism. Therefore, your admissions interviewers want to know you're committed to pursuing a career as a PA and that you fully intend to complete your degree.

Discuss your experiences and answer with honesty. Share how you cope with and overcome such issues. Share your familiarity with the safety precautions and protocols that come with exposure to bodily fluids and that you'd follow them with diligence. Assure them of your determination and dedication to follow through on your collegiate pursuits.

"I understand that as a physician assistant, I would be subject to many difficult scenarios, and I feel that my volunteer experience in the pediatric ER but more so my work experience as an MA and Scribe in the urgent care has prepared me to remain calm yet eager to assist where I can. I continue to learn and improve daily on my skills handling difficult scenarios appropriately and look forwards to mastering my skills as an experienced physician assistant."
