From apparel to beauty to apartment design, Urban Outfitters is all about creating great customer experiences. If you have experience in the retail industry, walk the interviewer through your previous jobs and be sure to highlight your favorite and most challenging positions. If you don't have any retail experience, that's okay! You have likely gained the skills and experience needed to make customers happy through your professional and personal relationships -- and you can let the interviewer know that you are excited to make the transition to retail and learn more about the industry.

"While I haven't yet worked in a retail environment, I'm really excited to get started! I love learning new things, especially when it comes to working with and serving other people. In college, I worked in a writing lab where I helped younger students correct essays and prepare for English exams. That experience helped me learn how to listen to people's needs, practice patience, and develop tools to help frustrated students feel more at ease. I think that experience will set me up for success in the retail industry. My most challenging position was definitely as a waiter. The fast-pace was fun, but it was hard to transition to that environment. But I learned so much during that time, and I think the multitasking and communication skills I gained will serve me well in at UO!"

My favorite positions have been ones where I am granted autonomy to successfully do what I do best and have clear objectives set by the company in order to be aligned with the company vision. The most challenging positions tend to be the ones in which I grow the most. These tend to heighten my own standards for exceeding goals.

Rachelle's Feedback
Try being more specific. You mention multiple positions it seems, which could be a red flag to the interviewer.
"My favorite role, as well as the most challenging one, was my role as retail sales manager for Company ABC. The position was highly commissioned, and we were responsible for building a customer base to call upon when new shipments arrived. Not only did I learn a lot about fashion but I also grew my sales abilities exponentially."
