"I was working on a team project when three members of my team ended up having to self-quarantine due to contracting COVID. They all got pretty sick and weren't able to pass on the little progress they made on some of the more complicated parts of the project. So, I held a team meeting, and restructured how each remaining team member would approach their given assignments. The more mundane aspects we were able to delegate outside of the group. As we approached our deadline, our missing team members returned to work feeling better, one by one, and were able to help with the final details to deliver the work on time."

By learning about your accomplishments and how you measure success, the company will better be able to determine how well suited you are for Nike's work culture. So go into your interview prepared. Familiarize yourself with everything Nike. In fact, it even offers the following advice on its website, "Our best, your best... Interviews can be stressful. We'll do our best to help prepare and welcome you, that's our part. A little up-front work with a sprinkle of research, that's your part."So much of Nike's culture surrounds athletics and sports. Although they place a heavy focus on team performance, Nike also focuses on individual accomplishment as well. They define their mission as bringing "inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world." They "embrace different perspectives, from scientists and designers to coders and quarterbacks because everyone brings unique experiences and ideas to the team."

HireVue's proprietary machine learning algorithms will record your video interview and analyze every data point to determine your experience level and to predict your future job performance. It will then compile a report which will be passed on to the company's hiring authority with the video for further study. The assessment model combines "video interviews with predictive, validated IO science and artificial intelligence. HireVue augments human decision-making in the hiring process and delivers higher quality talent, faster.""HireVue Assessments take the place of the same kinds of things that a recruiter or hiring manager would be looking for in a candidate for the job you're applying for." It will evaluate your professional image, facial expressions, eye movements, body movements, vocal inflections, all while examining the consistency between your answers, your level of honesty, and indications of your confidence in your own statements.

The HireVue platform has a question bank which it calls their "Interview Builder." It contains categories, and subcategories ranging from career positions, company culture, and skill levels required to perform the job. All of these questions were designed by its industrial-organizational psychologists. In its interview builder, it breaks a candidate's experience level into five categories: novice, developing, intermediate, advanced, and expert. It defines a novice as disorganized, willing to bend the rules, lazy, and careless. And an expert is defined as attentive, meticulous, careful, thorough, and accountable.

Tell us about yourself.

"A little about me. I love fashion. In school, growing up, the shoes you wore were an ultimate statement, the foundation of your outfit. So, my friends and I were always proud of our shoe wear. Back then, I was always combing through fashion magazines for inspiration. After high school I went to the FIDM, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and had a great experience there. That experience helped shape who I am today. Now, I would say that building upon my wardrobe is my greatest passion. I'm all about buying quality too. Clothing is art. I enjoy dressing up, dressing casual, and a little of both. And more often than not, my outfit incorporates a pair of Converse or Nike. I've wanted to work for this company for some time. This position feels like a perfect match for my character and my skills, so here I am."

Depending on the position you apply for with Nike, you may be presented with the opportunity for a digital interview. Nike employs HireVue, "an online recruiting platform that helps recruiters and hiring managers assess candidates at the pre-employment stage. The digital interview includes a series of competency-based video questions and mini-games focused on assessing competencies." As HireVue explains, the assessment model combines "video interviews with predictive, validated industrial-organizational science and artificial intelligence. HireVue augments human decision-making in the hiring process and delivers higher quality talent, faster. HireVue Assessments take the place of the same kinds of things that a recruiter or hiring manager would be looking for in a candidate for the job you're applying for." HireVue's AI assessment models will evaluate your responses and measure them "against the core competencies of the job and previously successful incumbents."

This question is designed to get to know you. This is the primary goal of any interview. By getting to know the real you, the interviewers will better be able to ascertain how well you would fit into their environment and culture, how well you would get along with their teams, and how well you would be able to perform at the job. So, help yourself and your interviewer. Show your personality, as you would in a live interview. Even though you are talking to the algorithm, conduct yourself as if you were speaking to a real person. Do your best to relax while speaking in a level, yet enthusiastic, tone. Maintain eye contact, and smile softly. Try to come across as confident.

As it states on Nike's career website: "We want to get to know the real candidate. We want to know more than just your resume. Take every opportunity show us who you really are, we value what makes you unique. We're united by the same mission: to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world. That means you. Because, as Bill Bowerman, Nike's co-founder and legendary coach, once said, 'If you have a body, you are an athlete.' At Nike, Inc., we believe in pursuing greatness everywhere: on the field, on the court, on the beach and on the street. That's why our family of brands include Jordan and Converse. We may not look or act the same, but we all share the same drive for greatness. That is the backbone of the Nike family."

Most of HireVue's questions are behavioral interview questions, developed by staffed industrial-organizational psychologists. Such questions typically consist of the following uniform situational judgment structure: "Tell me about a time when you faced this situation. What were the steps you took? What was the impact of your decision?" These questions are designed to help assist its algorithms in performing the tasks they are programmed for; evaluating your answers, verbal, and nonverbal cues, and classifying your skill level with the aim of determining how well suited you are to the role and their company.

Talk to us about your proudest achievement. Why was this achievement important?

"I learned a lot of leadership skills at my current company. I've also done a lot of mentoring and coaching and could tell you about that, or how I improved the KPIs of my team. However, in all honesty, my greatest accomplishment has been applying the skills and experience I have gained professionally in my personal life. For example, I recently assisted my parents with a major downsizing move. I felt that this was a project within my wheelhouse and that I could help. However, managing those who are paid to do a job is quite different from managing one's parents, especially when one's father can be as headstrong as mine. When my father became overwhelmed and defensive, I communicated non-defensively, and quickly explained in simple terms what needed to be done and the best methods for doing them. I then offered several approaches, giving him a choice of which he felt most comfortable with, and then got to work. By the end of the day, he told me how proud he was of me, and that was the first time he had ever said that. So, that felt like a significant achievement on several fronts."

HireVue advertises the customization of its industrial organizational interview guides, and artificial intelligence assessments, to help better serve each individual company. HireVue suggests it can customize each assessment interview from the company culture to a specific role, to better differentiate "unqualified candidates" from "top performers." By asking the right questions it will more effectively elicit responses which better predict and identify skills, characteristics, and job performance. All the more reason to dedicate time to prepare.

When sharing a significant professional achievement, remember, what you share will suggest where you are, developmentally, as a professional. So share a recent example that offers insights into your current skill level and expertise. Consider the advice Nike gives on its careers page, "Athletes know the importance of training; so should you. Take some time before your interview to review your CV and think about your experiences, for example; Your greatest accomplishments. Your approach to collaboration. Your ability to work in a constantly evolving game. Even projects that didn't go as you'd planned and why. Try to have several specific examples ready to go so that you don't have to use the same one repeatedly."

One of HireVue's advertised benefits is that candidates can take their interview at any time and anywhere. But this is intended to serve their clients by freeing up the recruiter's schedule and allowing them the flexibility to review the materials later when it suits them. So beware of the conflicting advice HireVue offers candidates. On one webpage, it recommends finding a quiet and professional space to perform your interview. But another webpage suggests, "Just relax. If your dog barks or your kid runs across the screen-relax. It's okay. Your employer will understand, and if they don't, perhaps it's not the right culture fit for you. And that's okay. This is your time to showcase who you are and what you can add to an organization. Prepare, take a deep breath, and be yourself." Instead, take the advice Nike offers on its website, "Take your time. Make sure you're in a comfortable environment free of distractions."

Remember, the algorithm will evaluate how well-groomed you are and how tidy and professional your attire is, and how distraction free your environment is. HireVue even goes so far as to recommend you find a location free of distractions. Yet, it offers a feature that blurs out your background if you can't find one. However, most recruiters may find that blurred background distracting and wonder what that hidden background says about how organized or professional you are, ultimately resulting in unconscious bias. Even though it claims their algorithm is bias-free, the recruiter makes the final call. So don't choose an informal setting, such as a coffee shop or shared workspace. Allow yourself all the time needed to prepare. As you would in an in-person interview, present yourself on camera as a professional in every way.

Tell us about a time you went above and beyond for a customer. Describe the situation, your actions, and the result.

"Well, before I was an employee, I was first a customer. And I stand behind our products, and my experiences, both as a customer and as an employee, have been nothing but positive. So when I heard from a customer that had a poor initial experience with our product, I found that personally upsetting. So I did everything I could to help them out over the phone. But as soon as I realized there was no way to remedy the situation over the phone, I offered them a refund, or to send them a replacement overnight, with a return label for the defective product. They were happy with this, and I included a coupon for their next purchase, which they used nearly as soon as the replacement product met their satisfaction."

It is not only important for you to familiarize yourself with Nike's brand of customer service, but also with how HireVue will rate your skill level based on your responses. Customer service is reliant on emotional intelligence, as well as strong interpersonal skills. A large component of one's interpersonal skills rely on how adaptable they are. HireVue defines adaptability as "the ability to shift or change opinions, actions, or behaviors when faced with multiple demands, shifting priorities, rapid change, or ambiguity."

Nike defines its model of customer service as building and maintaining strong relationships with its customers, while being responsive to, and resolving questions while managing complex customer issues. Specifically, the website states, "Serving people is at the heart of everything we do. As you work through the assessment chat and quiz exercises, always think about how to incorporate your personal approach to world-class service. At Nike, our goal is to provide candidates with an amazing experience, start to finish. We've put a lot of thought into designing a hiring process that allows us to see your unique skills, while also giving you the chance to learn about the #SwooshLife and see if we're the right fit for you."

Spend time practicing this Nike interview set. Although HireVue takes measures to prevent candidates from seeing the interview questions before the interview, we've managed to get a sneak peek at its interview builder, have identified the behavioral structure for most of their questions, and have studied Nike's work culture, allowing us to predict the types of questions you can expect in your Nike HireVue interview. HireVue offers the following advice: "While virtual interviewing isn't difficult, a little practice can help you prepare. Most on-demand interviews ask you to give your answer in just a few minutes. It's helpful to think about how you will illustrate your skills clearly in that time frame, and to practice them out loud."Additionally, HireVue offers practice questions on their website to prepare candidates for the process. While the practice questions may not apply directly to the company you're interviewing for, they can still serve as a useful exercise. It can also help prepare you for delivering your answers within their three-minute window. So, set your timer for three minutes, and practice answering each question to this set out loud while recording your answer.

How would your most recent leader describe you?

"They have described me as supportive, team-oriented, ambitious, and always thinking outside of the box. They would also say I am passionate about what I do, loyal, and motivated."

This question delves into your self awareness. How you answer suggests your honesty, skill level, whether you take ownership of, and how proactive you are with your own development. How you answer also could provide insights into how aligned you are with its ideal candidate. As Nike states online: "The brand seeks achievers, leaders and visionaries. At Nike, Inc. it's about each person bringing skills and passion to a challenging and constantly evolving game."

On its website, Nike advises their applicants to make their first impression count. It offers simple advice, such as checking your resume and curriculum vitae for spelling, grammar, and answering its re-qualifying questions. It states that checking your work for thoroughness and consistency "makes a huge difference." How consistent your materials are with how you answer each question, as well as how consistent your answers are with each other, will help you make it to the next interview, and will help the corporation identify top talent. As Nike states online, its goal is to "attract, retain, and reward the world's most innovative people."

When considering what to share about how your leaders described you, review any recent performance reviews, or any recent feedback you've received on or off the job. Then try to determine how that aligns with the types of employees Nike describes it is looking for. For example, Nike describes how it aims to develop a "motivated, diverse and engaged global team." So find any comments or feedback your leaders have delivered that describe you as motivated, engaged, and resourceful or innovative, or anything that suggests you contribute to its diversity in the contributions you've made.

The algorithm assesses how you answer this question by evaluating how honestly you present your answers, so answer as sincerely as you can. Some non-verbal cues the assessment vendor will use to evaluate dishonesty are gaze avoidance, the direction of your eyes, covering your eyes or mouth, pressing your fingers to lips, stroking your chin, playing with hair, changing your posture frequently as if uncomfortable, or excessive fidgeting such as restless foot and leg movements.

Why are you looking for a new position?

"Well, the company I have worked for the last four years went through a merger acquisition. They redefined the company culture, but the culture the consultant helped the company craft isn't really practiced anywhere. As a result, there is something of a culture void at work, which has resulted in low morale. Several employees are burned out, and no longer engaged. I pick up the slack wherever I can, and as a result have inherited more responsibility than I'd like to shoulder. So, I decided to find employment with a company with more electric energy. I am super passionate about my work and what I do, and prefer to work with like-minded individuals who are super passionate as well. Nike feels like the right fit for me, and I am excited about the opportunity!"

Nike isn't interested in getting a vacancy filled as fast as possible. It needs to ensure whomever it hires will have a sense of belonging. "The energy here is electric! Converse HQ is filled with such talented employees who are super passionate about our brand. Not only do we want strong candidates, we also want candidates who are passionate about the role and excited about the opportunity!"

Nike advises its candidates to "Find the right fit. Before you apply, read the job posting closely and make sure your skills and experience align with the needs of the role." Nike also says, "Always consider the impact of your words. We communicate with purpose, and we share responsibly." Additionally, HireVue's algorithm evaluates how well you communicate your answer, and "the content of your message, the meaning in your message, and the emotion you express."

Take note of Nike's language and value statements, and integrate its keywords and key phrases into your answers when possible. Try to come across as natural, though. Sounding too rehearsed can make you sound disingenuous. Practice in front of your computer's camera, try not to look at yourself on the screen, but rather maintain eye contact with the camera lens as if you're speaking face-to-face with a person. Do your research, on the company, the job, and yourself. This will inform the company that you've identified it as an ideal match for what you are looking for and already embrace its culture and values.

Talk to us about your career goals.

"I am very resourceful, innovative, and have mapped out an ambitious career plan. In the next five years, I would like to learn these specific, applicable skills, be rewarded for my accomplishments with more responsibility and more training, and work my way up into a leadership career path within the company. My goal is to keep moving forward, breaking barriers, and continually build upon what our teams have built before me. As I progress, I would coach everyone I could, aiding them in their success as I furthered my own."

When sharing your career goals, and how you'd like to grow as a professional, closely examine your short-term goals, long-term goals, and the big picture of your career ambition, and align it with the opportunities that Nike offers. As it states online, "Nike is focused on development opportunities. Nike, Inc. is a growth company that looks for team members to grow with it. No matter the location, or the role, every Nike employee shares one galvanizing mission- to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world. Our purpose is to move the world forward through the power of sport, breaking barriers and building community to change the game for all. If you have a body, you are an athlete."

Always be self-aware of how you may be perceived by others in your recorded interview. Not only will you be evaluated by the assessment vendor, but possibly by one of their industrial-organizational psychologists, as well as by the hiring authority at Nike. So you want to be yourself, exuding confidence in your statements and your abilities. Relax in every way. Keep your face, posture, and body language open and at ease.

Be mindful of your nonverbal cues. Avoid any nervous or stressful behavior, such as fidgeting, which could include any small movements of your hands or feet, swaying, shifting your weight, rocking or tilting back in your chair, leaning to one side or the other, straightening and freezing your posture, cradling your neck with one or both hands, crossing your arms, cracking your knuckles, or biting your nails.

"First, I love Greek Mythology, and am a big fan of victory. I want to be the best at what I do, and I want to work for the best to help be continually better and beat my previous best. I want to work for a company that will empower me to realize my full potential. I love sports, team sports and solo sports. I want to work for Nike."

How you answer this question will help the assessment vendor and the Nike recruiter determine how good of a fit you are for the company and the role. A requirement for whomever it hires will have to effectively represent their brands. As Nike has detailed, its teams are passionate about what they do at Nike. So, this question will help the assessment vendor evaluate how confident you are that you're the right fit for this opportunity, and whether you're pursuing it for the right reasons.

Here are some value statements Nike and its affiliates make online attesting to what it feels makes it great: "Nike, Inc., named for the Greek goddess of victory, is the world's leading designer, marketer, and distributor of authentic athletic footwear, apparel, equipment, and accessories for a wide variety of sports and fitness activities. Nike needs teams that bring them closer to the consumer, create breakthrough innovations, and empower employees to realize their full potential. Nike's diverse, high-performing teams around the world are united by a love of sport and share a singular goal: to make all athletes better."

In order to effectively represent its brand, you will need to be a member of its tribe. So, before you join Nike's teams, it helps to be a loyal customer. Someone who already stands behind its products and can attest to them. You'll need to showcase that you are someone who would attest to and preserve the reputation Nike has worked hard to build.

Talk about a time you encountered a communication problem at work. Describe the situation, the steps you took, and the outcome.

"I was working with a supervisor who didn't have the strongest communication skills. When others wouldn't understand what this person was attempting to communicate to our teams, and would ask for clarification, they would simply repeat what they said before, but more slowly and pronounced. So I witnessed this happening, and I mirrored what this individual was saying, communicating with empathy, and explaining where I felt the communication breakdown was occurring, and how their statements could be interpreted in a variety of ways. Eventually, I was able to get to the core of the communication breakdown and reach an understanding on all fronts."

Remember, every question in the Nike HireVue interview was selected from a question bank to find candidates suited to its company culture. Not only is your recruiter interested in finding candidates with strong communication skills, but also those who will build strong relationships with its teams. "At Nike, we embrace different perspectives because we know everyone brings unique experiences and ideas to the team. No matter where we come from, a love of sport unites us. It teaches us to be competitive and to value collaboration. Always consider the impact of your words. We communicate with purpose, and we share responsibly."

Spend time meditating on what you want to say, paying attention to your choice of words, what they suggest, and practice speaking in a natural and evenly paced tone. This will help you avoid giving the algorithm unintended cues or signals that could cause it to draw the wrong conclusions from your answer. Enunciate your words, avoiding stutters or long pauses, and avoid crutch words such as "uh," "like," "um," "you know," "so on and so forth," "and," "well," "but," "so," "ah," "er," and "etcetera."

Allow yourself all the time needed to prepare. You'll want to present yourself on camera as a professional in every way, as you would in an in-person interview. On its careers website page Nike states, "Nike is casual dress regardless of the position or the country in which you are applying. Generally, business casual is the appropriate attire and it doesn't hurt to sport your favorite pair of Nikes, Jordans or Converse." So, when presenting yourself in your interview, wear professional clothing appropriate for the role. The algorithm will evaluate how well-groomed you are and how tidy and professional your attire is.

It is up to you to present what you might qualify as a communication problem. So present the right attitude when presenting an example. Objectify the situation, exhibiting an emotionally mature perspective, and how you navigated this terrain, ultimately leading to a successful resolution. Posture yourself in a relaxed and comfortable position. Focus on the positives and how the overall outcome benefited the team. Nonverbal cues for empathy are slightly tilting your head, nodding slowly, keeping your palms open, maintaining eye contact, smiling softly, and slightly raising your eyebrows.

Why should we hire you?

"In addition to my experience and strong track record, you should hire me because I am a loyal customer who believes and stands behind all of Nike's brands. I have three pairs of Converses, one pair of Air Jordans, and three pairs of Nikes. There is no one who would represent your company to your customers better than a loyal customer."

When pitching to a company why it should hire you, there are a few things the company doesn't want to hear. First, it doesn't want you to tell them what you think it wants to hear. Second, it doesn't want you to repeat back to it, word for word, what it has advertised in its recruitment efforts, or what it has detailed the company is looking for on the website. Third, the company doesn't want you to just tell it that you are great or the right person for the job. These do nothing to separate you from any other candidate saying the same thing. Rather, what they want from you are two things. First, they want you to show them, not tell them, through an actionable answer, that you've prepared for this interview, are excited about this opportunity, and have a strong work ethic. How well you've prepared will reveal your work ethic. By giving an actionable answer, they'll be better equipped to believe you are who you say you are. And secondly, they want you to tell them the truth. When you are telling the truth, and your answers are sincere, they'll believe that you believe in what you are saying.

When sharing why you feel strongly about Nike hiring you, and giving your elevator pitch as to why you are the right candidate for the job, start off by taking the advice Nike offers on its website. "Make it personal! Do you have a story about how Nike has impacted you or your community? Or, how sport has made a difference in your life? That kind of passion is contagious, so don't hold back during your interview. Know the product! At Nike knowing product is important. No matter what role you're interviewing for, a foundational understanding of our innovative footwear, apparel and accessories is good to know. When we come to work, we act as one team. We stand by each other, include each other and value each other's contributions, believing everyone should have an equal chance to succeed. We do things the right way, acting with the principles we know the world expects from Nike."

Choose your words carefully. Spend some time looking up terms which you feel best apply to you or are naturally part of your vocabulary. Use professional adjectives to describe yourself and your situation, such as career focussed, ambitious, persistent, genuine, patient, enthusiastic, disciplined, and passionate. When speaking, try not to speak too fast as it could make you seem nervous. Speak more slowly, moderating your tone. This will help you come across as relaxed, as an equal speaking among your peers.

Describe a time you faced a conflict at work. Describe how you addressed it and the outcome.

"Well, I have had scheduling conflicts that I have resolved professionally in the past. But I assume you mean conflicts with other members of the team. I am extremely team-oriented and haven't really experienced a conflict at work. There have been times where some members of the team have been more reactive rather than responsive, or have taken their stress out on others. But I tend to be a stabilizing force, and effectively de-escalate by empathizing with them and objectifying the situation."

So much of this question aims at determining how well you would potentially work with its teams. How you answer stands to reveal what a conflict at work looks like to you, as well as what you contributed to the conflict. HireVue wants to determine whether you escalated or resolved the situation. How you answer could inform it of whether you would be an asset in such situations or a liability.

HireVue's assessment model will evaluate your responses by measuring them against the core competencies of the job and Nike's exemplary candidates. Remember, it will evaluate your verbal and nonverbal cues, with the understanding that frequently, when a person recalls a conflict situation, the emotions of that moment often rise to the surface. Cues it will be on the lookout for include a narrowing of the eyes, folding arms, and furrowing one's brow. The assessment vendor's algorithm will also study for defensive cues, examining posture or gestures interpreted as insecure, closed-off, unapproachable, hostile, or disinterested. So avoid trying to come across as strong in your posture. Rather, you want to come across as objective, confident, and relaxed.

When offering the context of how you interpret a conflict at work, clarify what it means before answering. Does a conflict mean an interpersonal conflict, a conflict of interest, or a personal conflict, such as having personal obligations which conflict with work obligations? Also, when evaluating whether you should share your example of a conflict, consider reviewing Nike's code of conduct first, and ensuring you are aligned with its brand of ethics. In its code of conduct, it asks, does your conduct, "Serve Nike's Interests? Does it serve a legitimate Nike business purpose and not just one personal to me?"Also, consider the code of interpersonal conduct Nike expects its employees to be guided by, "Nike believes in, and will always advocate for, a culture where all employees feel respected and included. We are strongest when everyone's voice is heard; it's only in a culture of openness and honesty that we can all do our best work. Potential conflicts can often be resolved with an open and honest discussion. We believe in the inspirational power of sport to break down barriers, overcome differences and bring people together. We treat one another with respect, period."

Describe your work ethic.

"My work standard is one where I am extremely competitive with myself. I am always trying to match or beat my previous record. I do this by constantly focusing on my own development and questioning how I can go above and beyond. So my standard is above and beyond. And delivering the bare minimum is what failure looks like to me."

This question is about the standard you set for yourself when performing and delivering. How you answer will inform it of how aligned you are with the performance standards it expects of employees. As Nike details in its code of conduct, "Act with integrity, and inspire others to follow your lead. Acting with integrity is about more than reading a set of policies and checking a box. It's about always acting ethically, in the small moments, as well as the big ones. It's about holding each other accountable every day we go through our jobs. And it's about feeling OK with asking for help from others. Everything we do matters, and we are all in this together."

When you describe your work ethic, you'll want to back up your words by showcasing that you've taken the time to prepare for your interview. Nike offers the advice of working smarter. Making sure you perform your research, review your application, resume, and curriculum vitae for accuracy, and making sure every step "best represents your experience." So pay attention to the details, and attest to who you are as a person and as a professional with consistency, honesty, and confidence in your delivery.

When determining where you will record your HireVue video, remember that your surroundings will be viewed as a reflection of your level of professionalism and your work ethic. You want the focus to be on you and not on your background. So make sure your surroundings are organized, your personal appearance professional, and your what appears in the video is consistent with your choice of words, free of distractions, and work-appropriate.

"When I graduated from college, I wanted to join a company where I already felt like I belonged. I wanted to work somewhere I would brag about where I worked. Nike was a clear choice. Not only is the company aligned with my values, but I have been a customer since I could walk. I have several pairs of Converse as well. I love the style and statements Nike's apparel makes, and I love sports as well, both individual and team sports. Nike is my top choice, and there's no place I'd rather work. "I run every morning, I eat right, and I prioritize my mental health along with my physical health. For me, the key to ensuring I maintain a balanced between my mind, body, and spirit all comes down to planning. So I am very proactive in making sure all the demands of both my personal life, private life, and professional life are met. It's as simple as that."

One's success is reliant upon having a strong work-life balance. When things are off balance in either one's personal or professional life, either sphere can affect the other. If an employee brings their personal problems with them to work, it will not only negatively impact their performance, but stands to impact the morale of the workplace. I asked for feedback and my coaches offered me valuable insights and tips to help me succeed. So I took what they offered and pushed even further. Now, when I meet a deadline rather than coming in ahead of one, that feels like a failure to me. But I keep moving forward with the aim of continually getting better."

Anytime I finish up my work early, I anticipate the needs of my teams by quickly surveying who has the greatest distance to cover with their work, and I hop on that task with them until we hit the finish line together. I am normally the first to volunteer, am reliable, and I always support everyone on my team."

The assessment vendor is asking you to give them a reason they should hire you while studying your behavior to ascertain if you believe in what you are saying. "I'm always thinking outside of the box, trying to identify ways in which I am able to work smarter rather than harder. I believe it's always highly likely that there is a better way to perform any task in most situations. For example, whenever we were processing mass orders with varying quantities for each line item, there were consistently a percentage of mis-punches occurring. Tracking down the mis-punches and coaching the individuals held accountable for them simply resulted in too much re-work and hurt morale. So, I developed a tally system, where for each visual page of each order, there was a running subtotal. This way, when the system's tally didn't coincide with the page's tally, then the clerk knew they had to track their own mis-punch before the order was finalized and submitted. So, proactively they identify their own growth opportunities in the most prompt, frequent, and specific method available. Our leadership was thrilled."

They also advise to think about every question and to "try to have several specific examples ready to go so that you don't have to use the same one repeatedly." When conveying that going above and beyond is your status quo, it should come across as second nature. You want to come across as though you are in your comfort zone. Speak sincerely and be confident, relaxed and at ease. Keep it natural, speaking with friendly confidence while maintaining eye contact with the camera. Be mindful of your posture and smile with both your mouth and your eyes. Keep your body language open, your tone steady, even, and consistent with your statements. Practice beforehand until you are comfortable with this style of interview, and come across as if you are speaking to a real person or to an audience.

HireVue's assessment models rely on its ability to evaluate your facial expressions, and it repeatedly suggests to "Check your lighting. Make sure it's in front of you. Lighting from behind makes it hard to see you." The algorithm's design is to see your face. Therefore, it might eliminate you as a candidate if you're backlit and it's unable to read your expressions. So aim for good natural lighting, cast evenly across your face.

Describe a time you had to make a time-sensitive decision without all the information you required. What steps did you take and what was the outcome?

"I am always actively listening. When our leaders are talking about the big picture or where the company is heading, I am listening. When I tune into the relationships they are building with our clients, I am always asking questions. So, when our leaders were out at a managers' meeting off-site and a new client we'd recently on-boarded wanted some extras thrown in before they digitally signed their contract, I knew it was ultimately up to our leaders to make that decision. But, they were unavailable and I had actively listened and asked questions of our leaders in the past, and was familiar with many of the extras and exceptions they would typically make in such a scenario. So, in my conversation with this client, I guaranteed them some incentives, but affirmed I could not guarantee all the ones they requested. This turned into something of a negotiation, but in the end, I assured them what I was able to offer as concessions would be honored. Ultimately, they agreed and signed the contract. When our leaders returned, they were grateful I was able to anticipate their needs, expressed that in any other circumstance they would prefer that I not overstep my bounds, but in this scenario I'd made the right decisions."

"The most recent difficult decision I've made was to leave my current job. I've devoted the last few years to building and coaching our rock-star teams. I am so proud of all that we've achieved together and deciding to move on to something new was a tough choice indeed. But, the logic behind the decision was that I felt as if my career growth at my current company had peaked. I am comfortably cruising along, able to do my job backward and forward with ease. Just last week I was working on a report which I finished ahead of the deadline. But I knew there were other contributors to this report once their data was complete. So, having finished early, I checked in with the others on my team who weren't finished with their work yet, and told them to feed me their data so I could assemble it into the report for them. Once I did this, everyone on the team wrapped up their projects ahead of our group deadline together."
