One of Bleu Origin's leadership principles is as follows: "Show Grit (Keep Climbing) - Leaders convey optimism without naivety. They say "let's figure it out." They take setbacks in stride and know it's not about how they start, but how they finish. They display grit by refusing to stop at the first barrier and constantly looking for a way to make forward progress. Keep climbing at a steady pace--it's the best way forward."

"I have been working since I was just 14 years old. My first job was as a shop hand for my father, a mechanic. I had to sweep, clean, greet customers, and order parts. It was a great way to get my hands dirty and learn excellent customer service skills. Everything I learned during that time has helped me stay grounded and humble in my career."

We often pick up some of the most valuable skills in our formative years as a professional. These could be organizational skills, work ethic, or the discovery of our leadership potential. Grit is one of the keywords from Blue Origin's leadership principles. Many hiring managers agree that the best employees are ones with 'grit' and who have held a 'dirty job' or two in their lives. Talk to the interviewer about your early work experience and how it helped build your character as a professional.

I have been working since age 15. My first job was as a lifeguard at a waterpark, where I quickly learned how important training and clear communication was. Then I started my aviation career, where I got my hands dirty fixing planes as an electrician and became a part of an amazing team. I believe those experiences will help me succeed in this position because it's taught me to stay humble, support, and lead a team.

I started working when I was 16. My first job was at a hamburger chain where I had to stay late and clean and organize for the next day. My next early-age job was even more challenging as a maid in a hotel. I think my early work experience contributed to developing a strong work ethic, and an ability to quickly adapt to change in taking on different roles.

Stephanie's Feedback
This is an excellent response! You do a great job of showing how your early work experiences contributed to your work ethic and professional skill sets. While some job seekers think that referencing a food service job doesn't seem "important" enough in an interview, this simply isn't the case. Your work ethic is a trait to be proud of!
