Tell me about yourself.

"My grandmother had XYZ disease, and I became passionate about trying to defeat this disease when I was young. That was the source of my passion for pursuing a degree in my field. After I graduated from university, I landed a position with ABC Pharmaceuticals in their R and D department. As I grew in the company, I authored several scientific papers and managed several research projects and budgets. I was attracted by what GSK has to offer and identify with its culture and purpose. I would like to further my career, expanding my leadership role to recruiting and training new scientists. I hope to one day develop new technologies and tools for drug discovery and development."

      HireVue offers companies their On-Demand interviews as a prescreening recruiting service. One of its key benefits is allowing you to take the interview on your own time according to your schedule. As you deliver your interview, its algorithm records and analyzes your performance. It then compiles a report assessing your performance before handing over the recorded interview and report to GSK's hiring authority. Here is some more information from HireVue's website: "You will use a computer, tablet, or mobile device to answer questions created by the company for the position you are applying for. Your answers are recorded for a representative at their company to evaluate. Because HireVue is not directly involved in the hiring process, the company you applied to will follow up with you about their hiring decision or any next steps after you complete your interview."

      Anytime you are asked this question in an interview, it serves a few purposes. Your interviewer wants to get to know the real you, which will help them determine whether you will complement the other members of their team, their culture, and their brand identity. It also serves to offer a contrast against any more performative answers. Asking a more informal question will more likely result in a sincere answer.
