What You Need to Know

Answer Example
"Any volatile environment has reactionary contributors. When such an environment self generates, I often find I'm more of an observer than an internalizer. I'm an active listener and a responder. What's happening in that environment isn't happening to me. Rather, it's happening around me. So, in these situations, because of my outlook and perspective, I often thrive in the role of a mediator. I take pride in my communication and negotiation skills in these situations. I think it's important to take these situations seriously, but I can't help but have a sense of humor about it. I always try to be professional."

Answer Example
"I'd love to start a camping experience planning website. While hiking and camping are fun and healthy, they could be intimidating for many beginners who don't know how to get started. Thirteen million more Americans started hiking/camping in 2017, and 38% of total campers are millennials, # rapidly growing. The preparation takes a lot of research - take finding appropriate locations, for instance. You go to the government websites to print maps of the park with various tracks you need to choose from. You also have to apply for a permit at a certain time once you decide on your camping/hiking tracks; some are lottery systems. Finding appropriate gear is challenging; currently, there are only a few players with limited physical locations. As more millennials join the camping community, they have different needs, such as unique lodging or activity experience, convenience, and other fun/auxiliary things that traditionally campers didn't ask for. I want to create a one-stop-shop site where they can use an interactive map to determine which track might be the best one for them based on their desired trip experience and unique needs. The website will focus on digital UX to help guide the end-user through all the steps they need to take in planning their trip. I'd target those in the 20s to mid-40s who like to plan group camping trips, rather than hardcore hiking/camping junkies since they are more likely to appreciate the step-by-step guidance."

What You Need to Know
Your interviewer would like to determine how transferable your skills are and if your skills match their company's needs. Be specific about your skills and unique qualities, highlighting any experience working with advertising platforms, whether on the client or supplier side.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"With my experience working on advertising platforms, I am confident that my skills can help Criteo Corp remain a strong competitor in the industry. For example, my knowledge of competing advertising platforms gives me insight into the differences between Criteo Corp's advertising platform and that of other companies. In addition, my analytical skills will help Criteo Corp build more robust analytics and reporting capabilities and offer higher levels of customizations for clients."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022

"For several years, I have worked with clients to meet their strategic goals. Strong communication and problem-solving skills helped me successfully meet my clients' needs, and I believe these skills will also help me effectively work with the various teams at Criteo Corp to continue to build a more competitive product for a constantly changing industry."

5. Why do you want to work at Criteo?
What You Need to Know
Ad-tech is a competitive, saturated industry. The interviewer is testing how thoroughly you've familiarized yourself with Criteo Corp, their product quality, service offerings, database, and analytics. Research Criteo's competitors and be sure you can readily compare Criteo Corp's strengths to that of its competitors.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"This industry is very competitive with large and small players, but I was interested in Criteo Corp because of the breadth of its services. Not only does Criteo have a strong and diverse database, including geospatial/location data, behavioral data, and explicit data, but Criteo Corp also understands that it's equally critical, if not more, to help the clients make organizational and operational changes so they can actually track the kind of consumer behaviors they are looking for and also be able to timely use such insights. It's not just marketing as a service; Criteo Corp offers insights as a service. And that's the kind of place where I should and want to be."
Written by Jen Hong on December 22nd, 2018
2nd Answer Example
"I admire your technology that can identify consumers without cookies better than the industry average. The focus on behavioral data is what intrigues me the most. Actionable behavioral data, going beyond just 'this customer clicked on this site, so we'll send them one more email,' is the new milestone everyone is trying to achieve. Your capability to comprehensively understand customer behaviors and predict what they'll want next is way above that of other ad-tech companies. Data is more fluid now, and traditional quantitative metrics are no longer sufficient since people can't fit into neat little boxes. And as a major behavioral data geek, I wanted to be part of a company that understands this concept and pursues collecting data in innovative ways."

1st Answer Example
"Google offers several well-known advertising tools, including Google Ad Manager. One of the most valuable aspects of this tool is its user-friendliness. That allows analysts to get the most out of the tool when managing their company's advertising campaigns. In addition, because it offers so many capabilities, marketers and analysts do not have to toggle between different tools to manage and measure their advertising efforts. Facebook Business is also a well-known platform with name recognition and following that makes it an effective option for many companies' advertising efforts. Its ability to give real-time information allows marketers to revise advertising efforts in a snap. Criteo Corp's platform has the potential to be competitive over time. It will be important to build user interfaces and analytical and reporting capabilities that are robust and easy to use. With my knowledge of platforms available in the industry, I believe I can help Criteo Corp reach its potential."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"Amazon has become one of the larger advertising platforms. Its ability to reach a large, diverse group of people and track potential customers on their 'journey' make it a valuable option for marketers. There is also Choozle, a platform that allows marketers to manage all their advertising campaigns in one place while optimizing their advertising mix through its targeting features. As Criteo Corp builds up its platform, I believe there are many ways it can remain competitive in the industry. Although the user-friendliness of Criteo Corp's tool is comparable, based on my assessment, the targeting and data capabilities could be more robust. I could make valuable contributions towards those efforts."

7. How would you describe Criteo Corp to someone?
What You Need to Know
The interviewer wants to see if you can effectively communicate the benefits of the products and services Criteo Corp offers in the ad-tech industry. Relate their purpose and value proposition enthusiastically and appealingly that would convey you've fully embraced their brand.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"I'd start by clarifying what ad-tech is in layman's terms. Ad-tech includes technologies that help companies promote their brand to their target customers in the digital landscape. These technologies help them understand their target customers, define the messaging that will resonate with them, and predict where they would likely see AND pay attention to the message or ad. Criteo Corp is one of the top players in the field and focuses on collecting diverse insights based on when, where, and what the person is doing. For instance, when you shop for clothes on Uniqlo, H&M, and Armani websites, as you click through all the clothes you see you like, Criteo Corp's tech records your clicks and tries to understand what you did and didn't like. They can collect information about you and others with similar preferences and needs and be able to show you recommendations or content that they think you will like. For example, when you Google things, you see ads for those on Facebook or Instagram. That's based on the kind of analytics that Criteo Corp can provide."

8. How would you communicate insights to a client?
What You Need to Know
The key word in this question is 'communicate.' This question is less about what you'd answer with, but rather how you would communicate your answer. Your ability to distill complicated information intuitively to your clients speaks to your expertise. Stand out by demonstrating your ability to communicate complex subjects to your clients while speaking to the merits of your products and services, specifically the insights generated from them. Communicate as if you're presenting insights to a team of executives. Think about what they care about - impact on the bottom line and specific needs/actions to be taken to improve the bottom line.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"Going over every single data point and explaining it would be a useless effort. What's important is the overall impact and what the data is teaching us about the next steps. I'd start with overall trends (increase in revenue, traffic, changes in customer base, etc.) and then go into learnings such as 'these customers want this or responded well to this.' How could we improve the sales of each product line? What changes to the experience do we need to make to increase the conversion rate? Articulating important and interesting trends observed that gave us actionable feedback to improve sales and what the key supporting data points are."

9. If a client opted to not renew their contract, how would you approach retaining that account and expanding our footprint within that account?
What You Need to Know
Criteo Corp is constantly developing new products and offerings in ad-tech. As part of your job, you'll be expected to interact with clients, ensuring their success. Part of the job is assuring their satisfaction and knowing how to maintain and expand that client relationship. This mindset is essential for anyone in a leadership position at Criteo Corp, regardless of the group/division. Tap into your inner sales/persuasion instincts when responding to this question. Make sure that your response puts the client's needs first.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"First, to expand our footprint within the account, I believe we need to frequently examine the account status and status of all ongoing initiatives. It's important to establish milestones with the client early on so we all have the same expectations and can observe progress clearly and objectively. I'll note all the roadblocks and challenges that come to the surface during the cycle of the relationship and speak to the client about their thoughts on the matter - like 'why do you think you are obtaining new customers steadily yet the rate of a repeat customer is low?' - and determine the root cause of the problem. The problem could be issues with the product, lack of meaningful client engagements, or a combination of things. Once the client sees the next problem they need to solve, I'll be their partner and offer guidance and an introduction of our services and capabilities they could benefit from. If I could be proactive, I'd offer the client a pilot approach so they can test out new functionalities/products when they become available. This way, we start to build trust and deepen the partnership. For accounts opting not to renew, I'd hope we would've been proactive enough to have had discussions with clients before they announce the decision. Either way, if they indicate they are leaning towards not renewing the contract, I'll probably use a few different techniques. I might mention other clients or companies who have made similar decisions to end contracts with Criteo Corp, resulting in their marketing capabilities significantly deteriorating soon after. I'll also highlight what their competitors are doing and the consequences of falling behind in their marketing efforts. If they are unhappy with us or considering another vendor, I'll find ways to address those issues quickly and throw in bonus gifts to appease them. If I can, I'll offer three more months of a free trial period to fix issues/deliver."

What You Need to Know

Therefore, your interviewer wants assurances that you value continued learning and stay current on developments in your field, competitive offerings, and new technologies. This could include both formal and informal learning opportunities. Be sure to specify any proactive measures you take to educate yourself.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"The competitive landscape for advertising platforms is constantly changing, so I find it is important to remain current with new products and service offerings. I regularly set aside time to read industry-specific news to learn about new companies entering the industry and their products. In addition, I look for opportunities to attend conferences and training sessions to learn about emerging technologies related to advertising platforms. These opportunities also allow me to network and learn from my industry peers."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"In addition to attending industry conferences and training seminars, I also find the time to research which advertising platforms my client's competitors use. If hired, I would compare the attributes of Criteo Corp's advertising platform to those being used by competitors of Criteo Corp's clients. That would allow me to keep a pulse on the new developments of competing advertising platforms. I also believe it may help Criteo Corp's teams generate ideas for new offerings of its own."

12. Tell me something you have taught yourself and how you went about it.
What You Need to Know
The interviewer wants to see if you are a self-starter, are career-minded, and pursue your career interests on and off the clock. Pick a skill that's more relevant and complex and that took significant time and effort. Emphasize what you did and how, as well as the WHY.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"When I was a strategy manager, I worked on a project to improve customer call center satisfaction. The project had failed a couple of times, and the COO asked me to take a crack at it. I spent a few months speaking with hundreds of people trying to understand what the underlying issue was. My team and I realized that the customer service wasn't the issue; the root cause was the product. There had to be additional knowledge/support functions embedded in the product. Suddenly, I was working on product design enhancements with which I had no experience. So I took Stanford design courses, learned about UX / design thinking, and practiced hosting UX workshops for customer journey mapping. I also bought Interactive Design, a 1500-pg book, for more technical guidance. There weren't appropriate resources that could take the lead on the project, so I decided to teach myself UX so we could finally fix the problem that's been affecting customer satisfaction for years."

13. Tell me about a time you addressed a project delay and how you handled it.
What You Need to Know
In your answer, elaborate on why there was a delay, but most importantly, how you managed to get back on track. Use the STAR format for questions such as these: situation, task, action, result. Describe the delay (Situation) and how you resolved it quickly and got back on track (Task). Describe how you went about executing the task (Action). Finally, explain how the steps you took to resolve it led to the effective and successful resolution of that delay (Result).
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I was working with my team on the configuration of the new HR system we were rolling out, and the HR team asked for a new module that we thought would significantly delay the launch. To meet our internal client's needs, we offered to add the new module, but to avoid delays to the project, we reallocated a resource to work exclusively on the module. We all chipped in extra effort on the major project parts to make up for our coworker's absence as he was working on the module. The coworker who did the module did a fantastic job and didn't require many changes from the group. We were able to roll the product out on time and within budget."
Written by Marissa Letendre on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"While we worked on an upgrade, we found a section that wasn't included in the project plan. We were on a tight deadline and knew we couldn't get behind. I took the time to understand that section and ensure I could be a productive team member and keep the project on track. Through my research, I gained knowledge that I shared with the project manager, and we were able to include that section seamlessly. By working with my colleagues and putting all of our knowledge, skills, and resources together, we got it included in a short period and kept going as the project was planned. We didn't miss a beat. I was the newest member on the team, but my dedication and passion contributed to how successful we were in keeping on schedule and achieving quality, effective rollout."

14. How much focus should we devote to building brand awareness?
What You Need to Know
This question will allow the interviewer to evaluate how well you'll fit into a business of their size, as their priorities may vary from your work experience. Distinguish the differing approaches necessary for a bigger brand versus the mini-brand of a startup. Doing so will inform your interviewer your skills are transferable and that you'd complement their team in this regard.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"For a startup, branding should be perceived as a foundation and a method to spread awareness of your products, establish credibility in the marketplace, and increase your visibility. This holds more value for a mini-brand. For a macro-brand, branding is everything. Once a brand is a household name, the brand markets itself. Building brand awareness should correspond with these principles and be considered on a case-by-case basis."

15. Have you ever visited a retail brick and mortar to effectively promote a brand?
What You Need to Know
Your interviewer is gauging whether you leave your career mindset at work or if you carry it with you wherever you go. Explain how marketing influences individuals' perceptions of their surroundings, influences behavior, and entices consumers to embrace a brand. Your answer will offer the interviewer a better understanding of what you might perceive as useful and relevant in an ever-changing marketplace.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"The internet has only changed how we shop. Why we shop hasn't changed. We still have the same motivators. Keeping this in mind, I went for a walk, studying the branding of each retailer on my street. Half had no definable branding, and you couldn't tell what they were selling by looking at their storefront. A brand appeals to a target audience, local or otherwise. But there was one brick-and-mortar store with great signage out front, a dazzling display in their entryway, and someone greeting passersby, enticing them inside with free promotional samples. They were generating foot traffic resulting in conversions. It's all about creating engagement with your brand and identifying opportunities when the conditions are right."

16. If a client wanted to stop using discounts, how would you improve their digital strategy?
What You Need to Know
A professional needs to have a strong comprehension of branding and marketing principles to assure their success in the field of ad-tech. At Criteo Corp, they're looking for candidates who go beyond providing a piece of software as a client solution. They are also looking to recruit those who can help the client build their strategy and co-innovate. Brush up on re-branding strategies for companies trying to be perceived as a luxury.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"If the client wants to move away from offering discounts to attract clients, I think they might have to rethink their overall branding strategy. They'll need to convince existing and new clients to perceive the brand differently. I'd say first look at customers who seem to be buying higher-priced (non-discounted) products and offer a new line of products to these clients as an 'exclusive' offer, emphasizing the quality and design that justify the price. Their messaging will need to be updated to represent the company's new positioning. I'd recommend focusing marketing on new, shiny products that the client believes are the best matches for the target customer base, so customers start to think of them differently on their own without being told so. I'd also design the websites to be much more personalized to show the customers, who exhibit less price sensitivity, to see more higher-end products during their shopping experience. They can also leverage offering exclusive access to the newest products or rewards program instead of discounts."

17. What security issues do you find important when executing digital advertising campaigns, and how can your knowledge/experience help Criteo with data security?
What You Need to Know
Securing the personal data of their customers has been a top concern for most companies. When responding to this question, relay your knowledge of data security related to digital advertising. Include any experience you have working with security-related projects or issues. Before joining its team, Criteo wants assurances that you're alert to the security issues companies commonly face when executing digital advertising campaigns.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"Although personal data allows marketers to target and customize their digital ads, keeping the data secure is of utmost importance. In a few of my roles with previous employers, we have continuously worked to monitor our data security measures to ensure we did not lose the trust of our customers. I have worked on task forces that evaluated new policies and technologies available to secure data within our warehouses. This team was responsible for how data was used within and outside the company. My experience working on these teams gives me a better understanding of how to test and monitor the security features of Criteo's products before it's released to clients."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"While working at a variety of companies, I learned how important it is to understand how the stored customer data is being used internally and externally. In addition, when transmitted externally to outside vendors, it is important the transmission is secure to avoid personal customer data being unknowingly shared. Digital advertising uses vast amounts of data for the execution and evaluation of campaigns, and I have worked with marketers to ensure that any data sharing is done with the highest security measures in place. When transmitted externally, I also certified that the partner receiving the data had high-security levels implemented into its system. With my knowledge of security issues, I do not doubt that I will be able to help Criteo Corp continue to offer security measures in its product to put its clients' minds at ease."

18. What important reporting and analytics capabilities should an advertising platform have?
What You Need to Know
Reporting and analytics capabilities are easily one of the most important features of an advertising platform. Your answer to this question should show your understanding of the reporting and analytics capabilities of advertising platforms in general, and particularly with that of Criteo Corp.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"The reporting and analytics capabilities of an advertising platform are crucial as client companies are looking to ensure their advertising efforts are effective and are reaping the benefits of their investment. Beyond the basic measures such as click-through and open rates, I believe it is important that an advertising platform can integrate a variety of data. That includes geographic and demographic data for different advertising channels and data from different devices. This data allows companies to understand the customer journey. Based on my research, all of these capabilities are offered with Criteo Corp's advertising platform and much more, including the ability to evaluate advertising channels clients may not be currently advertising with."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"An important feature from an analytics and reporting perspective is the ability to customize their reports and integrate data from outside sources. The higher the level of customization offered to client companies, the better they will be able to evaluate the advertising efforts unique to their business. In addition, integrating data from a source outside the advertising platform will also allow companies to tailor their analyses to answer their strategic questions. The advertising platform offered by Criteo Corp offers robust reporting and analytics capabilities that can be customized based on the client's needs."

19. How many impressions would you estimate an advertisement on a subway car garners in a day?
What You Need to Know
When answering brain teasers like this, always ask questions to get more information first. Then, lay out the factors in a formula. Explain the formula and all its factors before giving your final guestimate. Add comments about potential dependencies - factors that could change your calculation if you knew them.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"Can I first ask a few questions for clarification? When you say 'impressions,' are you referring to how many people will see it? Also, where is this subway car operating? Is there only one advertisement for the car? May I assume for simplicity that the car was fully emptied at each stop? Where is it located inside the car? Based on the information I have, I'll need to calculate the percentage of people who would have seen this advertisement based on its location inside the subway car each time the car was full and multiply it by how many groups of people would have come in and gone. The number of people inside the car at each stop will depend on the time of day - there will be more during rush hour. If it's packed, people sitting down might not see the ad, so we may have to consider that as well."

"My experience working with a variety of digital advertising technology will be helpful in this position as it will provide different perspectives to projects. For example, my work with Supplier Side Platforms will help me improve the connections between Criteo Corp's Advertising Marketplace and publishers. My background working with this technology will allow for efficient troubleshooting of issues that may arise, minimizing any unexpected downtimes."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"After years of experience working in various industries, I have developed and strengthened many valuable skills, including my project management and communication skills. My project management skills will allow me to oversee several tasks simultaneously. In conjunction with these skills, I have developed my communication skills which are vital when successfully managing multiple projects. 21. At Criteo, we believe data management is crucial when executing and evaluating a campaign. What is your experience working with data related to digital advertising?
What You Need to Know
Detail your past digital advertising data jobs or projects. Emphasize the importance of data management. Describe your experience with Data Management Platforms (DMPs) and what they lent to your Digital Advertising campaign. In addition, speak about how you might contribute to Criteo Corp's data management efforts.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"As with any marketing campaign, I have learned that data management is key to launching and running a successful digital advertising campaign. My work with Data Management Platforms has exposed me to the sizable volume of data collected and managed for digital advertising campaigns. As part of my job, I managed large data warehouses and extracted data required for targeting and evaluating digital advertising campaigns. That was crucial to ensure that these campaigns were effective and met company goals. If given the opportunity to work with Criteo Corp, I am confident that my knowledge will help clients better manage their digital advertising data."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"The capture and exchange of data before, during, and after a digital advertising campaign is imperative. Although my work with Data Management Platforms is somewhat limited, I have worked with team members to troubleshoot issues related to Digital Advertising data. We addressed issues with data capture, including refreshing and cleaning out 'stale' cookies. In addition, I have experience troubleshooting integration issues with data warehouses storing the necessary data for Digital Advertising campaigns. As an active member of the technology team at Criteo Corp, I trust that I can help the data management efforts run smoothly."

22. Industry experts believe Demand Side Platforms (DSP’s) positively impact digital advertising. Do you agree? How can Criteo improve its products or services to benefit marketers?
What You Need to Know
Your interviewer is testing the breadth of your knowledge of digital advertising tools and technology. Brush up on the capabilities of the most current digital advertising tools on the market and the product attributes of Criteo's offerings. Comparing Criteo Corp's products to their competitors may help identify areas of improvement.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"Demand Side Platforms automate the process in which ads are purchased and sold. This tool makes the process more cost-efficient, and because it is automated, it removes the possibility of human error in ad selections. It also allows for better targeting of ads through vast browsing history data. I strongly believe that the usefulness of a Demand Side Platform is limited by the experience of the person using it. Criteo Corp may benefit by offering ongoing training to its clients to ensure they are maximizing the platform's value."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"Marketers can be overwhelmed by the digital advertising options available for purchase. For one person to thoroughly evaluate all of them would be impossible. By automating the process, Demand Side Platforms allow marketers to purchase or bid on impressions based on the specified target audience. These platforms free up time for marketers to work on other aspects of the Digital Marketing campaign. To remain competitive, it would benefit Criteo to continue ensuring that its platform meets the target audience list needs of current and future clients."

23. What components of a robust advertising platform do you find most valuable while running frequent ad campaigns?
What You Need to Know
Relay your understanding of the needs of larger clients to run advertising more frequently. Those larger clients may require an advertising platform with more product attributes than a smaller business. Communicate clearly and speak with confidence.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"At times, larger clients may have several campaigns running simultaneously as they launch different targeted campaigns through different channels. Due to the high volume of campaigns, it is important to have the ability to launch, manage and track all of these campaigns seamlessly. The availability of information to make these decisions quickly will also be important, and this can be addressed through a platform's analytics capabilities. The user-friendliness of the interface is also crucial to execute these campaigns."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"Clients running advertising campaigns frequently benefit from investing in a powerful advertising platform. The timeliness of reporting will be key, so any changes in advertising can be executed without delay. Availability of data, such as channel metrics, also helps clients make strategic advertising decisions."

24. What kind of customer data should an online retailer collect?
What You Need to Know
It's important to acknowledge that data comes in a wide range of forms - explicit, implicit, behavioral data, structured, unstructured, etc. The key is collecting and then synthesizing all these data into actionable insights.
The best way to answer this question is to start with some general overall metrics before delving into the data points that would be relevant in a few scenarios in the customer's journey (on the retailer's site).
Also, mention that you would study not only 'snapshot' data but also trends over time.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"The amount of data we could collect would be enormous. I'll start by highlighting some overall things to look at and then go into a couple of customer experience scenarios and highlight the relevant data points. To assess the overall performance, I'd want to see trends in web traffic (unique and returning users). A breakdown of demographic and basic behavioral pattern information of the customers - how many items each segment bought, how much time they spent, etc. I'll then look at what brought the customers to the site, traffic sources, and conversion rates per traffic source (and bounce rate). I'll want to see customer buying habits and preferences. I'd also ask how many customers set a price limit when searching for products and what were the ranges of those ceilings. For customers who went to or spent a lot of time on the 'new arrival' section, did their buying patterns differ from others? How many customers went to the 'sales' section first? On average, how much time did customers spend on each product content, and what did they click on to learn more about the product? And lastly, I also want to know how they make final decisions - how many and who abandoned the cart? How many deleted items from the cart? How many people order more than one of the same product?"

25. Describe your approach to analyzing and solving complex problems.
What You Need to Know
Criteo Corp needs someone experienced in quickly identifying problems and responsive in providing solutions. They want to know how resourceful you are and whether you exhibit outside-of-the-box thinking. They seek to measure your preferred working style and whether it meets their required criteria. Lastly, they're likely gauging how well you work with internal and external customers when problem-solving.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"In my last development position, I was responsible for front-line communications with end-users. Third-tier helpdesk staff would contact me with software bugs, and I was able to quickly and professionally respond to problems. I was able to reduce the bug backlog by 70%."
Written by Rachelle Enns on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"Both my internal and external customers appreciate that I am a natural problem solver. With my eight years of development experience and Computer Science degree, I can quickly prioritize problems, address priority issues first and respond to customers promptly."

26. What features would you include and emphasize on the product content page (for a retailer)?
What You Need to Know
You need to be able to think from the perspective of the end-users (the customers of Criteo Corp's clients).
The interviewer wants to see if you can use logic and data to convey all the messages to the customer when they are looking at the product on their site to drive desired behavior (buying). Think about what you need to know and what would influence you as the customer when deciding whether to buy the product or not.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"I would start with things that customers need to know, such as product information (dimensions, colors, size). For clothes, you need an easy-to-understand size chart; women often struggle with this. You'll need photos of the item from various angles. Customers need to see the price as well. Next, I would think about what will influence the shopper's decision - reviews, popularity, and deals. These are things that a retailer would certainly want to be strategic about and leverage. Recommendations about other products also help, but only if they are based on robust data analytics."

27. What would be the best ad channels for a retail company launching its first beauty product line?
What You Need to Know
The interviewer wants to see that you have basic knowledge of typical ad channels and can incorporate insights about retail customers into your thinking.
Start by outlining insights into the target customers and when they'd most likely pay attention to the ads, both in the physical and digital world.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
Answer Example
"Many beauty product customers, most of whom are female, normally have brands they like for each product they normally use - skincare (lotion, moisturizer), foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, lipstick. But they are always open to trying new items, which is why places like Sephora are so popular. People can try them to see if they like the color, texture, etc. However, with an online retailer, customers can see reviews that let them know the pros and cons of the product. Since the company already has a good base of retail customers, many of whom are likely to purchase beauty products, they can start by including samples of their beauty products as gifts in existing customers' orders, both in stores and online. They can offer different gift options to choose from per order, hopefully customizing it based on client segments/preferences. Start with the loyal customers first so they can drive the most desired marketing channel of all - word of mouth. If they order more beauty products after trying their sample, they could get special discounts or additional gifts. I also think leveraging their website would be key - recommending beauty products based on the clothes or shoes they are looking at so they can plan their looks top to bottom. They can also hire social media influencers to promote and review their new beauty products - makeup gurus on Instagram and youtube. There are also Google keywords and ad analytics to lure customers exploring certain ideas to the brand/site."

28. Tell me about a time you took charge of a project. Discuss one positive and one negative outcome from the experience.
What You Need to Know
This question will help the interviewer assess your leadership and project management skills and whether you hold yourself accountable for your actions. Begin with an overview of the project, who was involved, and what approach you took to ensure smooth execution. Next, discuss something that you feel you could have done better. Be sure to end with why you felt the project was a success! Talk about what you did do to create a productive and positive outcome.

1st Answer Example
"My employer asked me to lead the training of 15 employees on our new client management software. I was already a subject matter expert on the software, so it wasn't difficult for me to plan the lesson. The challenge was making the content entertaining enough to keep the employees engaged. I created a PowerPoint presentation that included pop quiz questions throughout the training. The presentation was a success, and my employer asked me to lead a follow-up meeting a few weeks later. Now, I am confident in my ability to jump in and lead software-based training for Criteo."
Written by Rachelle Enns on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"In my previous software sales position, I often collaborated with the marketing department on selling strategies and new product launches. The marketing director was not the type to take control of a meeting, especially when there was a heavily technical topic. So, rather than go around in circles, I stepped up to take charge of the weekly meetings we had throughout one particular project. I am certain that this contributed heavily to the successful outcome of the project, as all team members had clear directives. That particular project had the highest ROI to date; however, if I were to do that again, I would ensure tighter timelines. I look forward to delivering solid successes like this to Criteo Corp, should I be the successful candidate."

29. Criteo fosters a collaborative working environment. When have you taken the time to teach an essential skill to a coworker?
What You Need to Know

1st Answer Example
"Last week, our company introduced a new module in our SAP system. I could see that our contracted HR assistant was having some trouble with the new module. I was familiar with it already, so I offered to help him learn the module. We spent his lunch hour for the next three days working on it. He perfected the module, and our company was so impressed with his dedication to learning that they are now trying to find room to hire him on a full-time, permanent basis."
Written by Rachelle Enns on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I'm proud to say that, even without any official management capacity, I often seize the opportunity to teach others at work. Not only have I helped contribute to the sales team's knowledge base of our software, but I also try to teach our clients about the added features of our software at every opportunity. It's fun to share and teach others, especially since I always seek learning opportunities for myself."

30. In this constantly changing industry, Criteo prides itself on investing in the growth of its teams. How do you invest in your professional growth?
What You Need to Know
Criteo Corp is looking to invest in self-motivated employees who express a desire to expand their comfort zone and pursue professional self-growth. Talk about your professional goals, including both industry-specific and general skills. Explain how reaching these goals will help you contribute to the broader goals of Criteo Corp.
Written by Kevin Downey on June 14th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I fully appreciate the need for professional growth in this evolving industry. Professionally, one of my main goals is to learn a new skill each month. This may be a technical or soft skill. I am more driven to learn when I am pushed out of my comfort zone. In addition, every month, I meet co-workers outside of my team or department to learn about their job responsibilities and current projects. That gives me a broader view of the company and how my role fits into the bigger picture. Because of these monthly goals, I am confident I can make a valuable contribution to my team and the company overall."
Written by Helen Lee on June 14th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"Without remaining current on industry trends, it would be difficult to make strategic contributions to Criteo Corp's goals. Each day, I carve out some time to catch up on current news and developments related to Advertising Marketplaces. Although my daily schedule may not allow for a large chunk of time, I have specific sites and industry news sources I refer to easily. In addition, I seek training seminars and conferences where I can devote larger portions of the day to learning about the industry. These learning opportunities will help me contribute proactively to Criteo Corp's goals. I believe Criteo Corp's investment in its employees helps it to remain competitive."
